As an Enfp, I got INFP 2 to 3 times before getting ENFP, and the first thing out of my mouth was, "No, I'm an introvert, this can't be right..." Then I learned the cognitive functions and yeah... it's ENFP, lol.

Same story for me. Tested as INFP several times. Couldn’t relate to it in everything though. Then I started testing as ENFP and couldn’t believe I’m an extrovert even though I could relate to ENFP’s description more. 😄 Besides learning about cognitive functions I also learned what “ambivert” is. 😂

I think I just had a stroke of good luck because back when I got into MBTI I interacted with people far more than I do now. I typed as an ENFP on every test back then and it made sense from the start, and then the cognitive functions lined up perfectly once I finally checked them out. But now, I don’t often test as an ENFP anymore… in fact, I can’t remember the last time I have. Most tests type me as an INFP, though there is the occasional INFJ or ENFJ. 16personalities is absolutely convinced I’m an INTP, which is hilarious. The biggest compliment I’ve ever gotten was the Truity test typing me as an ENTJ. Such a high point for me, bahahaha. It makes sense that to this day, no test has ever blundered so badly as to call me a Sensing type. Sometimes tests can help. Just sometimes. But cognitive functions are where it’s at. 👏👏 And for anyone else also obsessed with OPS, they made everything more straightforward than a test ever could’ve. Savior Consume and Sleep make my introverted nature as an ENFP make SOOOO much sense, hahaha.

This was the same for me! I was getting INFP for a long time but took it again not too long ago and learned that I was an ENFP. Everything made sense after that! I do enjoy my time alone, but I need to have those connections to keep me going. It’s really interesting how learning more of the functions and details helps you understand yourself a bit better.

Whereas I, also ENFP, tested introvert so often through highschool I didn't trust MBTI for ages, because I was so sure I was an extrovert. 😅 "The most introverted extrovert" is what I've heard of us and I agree. It's just all that feeling and creating I like to alone that makes it look like I don't need people. But no people = existential angst too.

INTP discovering MBTI: Ah yes, a new theory to learn. For real though, that bit about there being no solution provided to interact with others really resonated with me because MBTI has actually helped me understand how others think differently from me, not from learning about my own type, but from learning about all the types, how they communicate, what stresses them out, and why they behave the way they do. Obviously it's not an infallible guide but I've found that learning how each type uses its cognitive functions has really helped me understand how others think and feel.

Yes!! ISFP here and that's exactly my main usage for it as well! Extremely helpful, in my case, for learning how to take things less personally and more objectively since I am more enlightened on where people might be coming from. Even if I can't discern their exact type immediately (or ever), I can still identify individual cognitive traits and better identify what the intention behind the actions may be. It also helps me to work better with others and decrease misunderstandings.

The fun fact is that ENFP truly isn’t always socially extroverted, they just gather data from their external surroundings - can be people, but can be also media (often the preferred way) or experiences. They also often default into introvert state, especially if they’re a withdrawn 9w1 (my case).

Ayyyy, ENFP 4 here, totally relate! Ne is more of a gathering function, so I find it can be energized by reading or watching videos or even just entertaining mental possibilities for ages. I personally go days or, if possible, weeks without spending time with friends because I get so caught up in my alone time. It’s not even that I don’t love them - I do, and I’m the most extroverted, gregarious person ever when they’re around. But the moment they’re gone, that switch gets flipped, and I enjoy every single second of reflecting and brainstorming and contemplating life and talking to myself and starting new projects on a whim. I couldn’t answer for you how long it takes for me to crave socialization again because I can’t remember the last time it’s happened. Heck, it’s even to the point that sometimes INTROVERT friends I’ve adopted text me and ask to call and chat. And I’m like, pardon, but are you human?? You’re giving up your precious alone time?? What for?? I thought YOU were the introverted one!! 😭 Then I wonder if I’m weird for never calling people.

As an INTJ, “overly critical” seems to me to be too vague a descriptor. If something is imperfect (which nearly all things are), is it not worthy of criticism? How else will the thing or person in question know how to improve, to get one step closer to an ideal it is incapable of achieving? I don’t think INTJ’s “over critical” nature stems from a place of malice or pride (maybe the latter on occasion) but simply from a desire to see all things closer to their ideal state, from objects, to people, to systems. It just so happens that we are somewhat good at figuring out the imperfections and inefficiencies, and for the most part have no qualms in sharing that information.

In my (skewed) opinion, being overly criticaal means someone always focuses only on the negative points of something. When troubleshooting, this is not an issue, but when it comes to people... Also, what is "perfection" is, most of the times, subjective. So if you compare someone to your own subjective standards, this is basically error propagation. (Obligatory "Sorry for any english mistakes")

In my opinion sometimes people give criticism where it's not necessary - not everyone needs to hear criticism when something is wrong, often they know, and I find encouragement and support better in most cases. Of course there's a time and place for criticism but to me, "overly" critical means not knowing when the time and place is

The problem is often in timing - just because you can doesn’t always mean you should. If you see room for improvement - which it always is everywhere, in me, in you, in others - wait for an appropriate time to step in. People react better if they’re in a good mood and not in a stressful situation. It can be the difference between adding fuel to the fire or putting it out with water (or harnessing its power for good).

Someone probably INTPish here commenting about the question why there is no solution provided. I personally struggled a lot with my incapability of dealing with people. In my teen years I thought there could be like one formular which I could apply to all new social situations. I read a few books about it, but none of them provided an universal answer (i.e. there were always situations where they failed). So in the end I decided for myself that for social interactions there just cannot be one solution that fits all, as every situation is completely different. Some years passed by, meanwhile I'm 24 and just decided to accept my flaw as it is. I would be happy if some of you could share whether you've maybe had similar experiences!
@Scruffed
@Scruffed 2 жыл бұрын
I've spent the better part of my 33 years assuming that most people processed information and made decisions in a similar way to me (an INTP), but the reason why the decisions they arrived at when faced with the same information as me was different because of the cognitive biases they developed from their life story as well as hormonal, cultural and other random circumstantial factors. I can't say I'm 100% convinced that I've been so terribly wrong all this time, but the MBTI has given me a lot of food for thought and filled me with intrigue about how other people's minds really work. As I grow older, I just learn new protocols for new social situations and refine them over time rather than seeking general principles that apply to every situation.

The ESTJ skit is very funny. The ESFP grew a conscience. What a luxury in this world. Very sympathetic. The INTJ with the old pride problem. However, I love to get the critical opinion from an honest and friendly person. It’s often hard to understand why other people don’t value that although they claim to be in self-improvement. Irrational world. P.S. But you are not an irresponsible menace to society, of course.

Haha, I guessed the ISTP, ESTP, ISFJ, ENTP, INFP, ENFP, ENTJ, ESFJ, INTP, ESFP and INFJ 😂 My ENFP friend's, my INTP friend's and my ISTP sibling's reactions were *spot on* XD My reaction was a cross between, "Wow, I... I actually feel understood" and "...What the heck, am I being spied on? How is it this accurate??" (Which my INTP friend also agreed with) As for the INTP, hmm... Well... I'd say that developing your Feeling side would help with understanding emotions better and allowing you to interact with people in general better without coming off as rude or insensitive because feelings are hardly logical, so 'analyzing' them would naturally be different from analyzing any other thing Loved the ENTJ's and INTJ's reactions XD The others were pretty hilarious too, but those were mainly what stuck in my mind - v - Thanks again for uploading, Kristy, and as always, your video isn't far from the truth 😂✨

LOL as in ENFP ....Extroverted personalty dose not mean that is how you process things also. I found when I was a teenager I was very hyperactive and enthusiastic so I would not notice how I processed things. As I got older and mellowed out more I realized I process things better alone. And really need alone time at the end of the day otherwise i get information overload, or feel if phiscl overload almost. I still love people adventures and travel and crazy stories I could tell. The different's is as I am older I have learned to need my lone time balance. I have the most outgoing personality out of most people I know. But I can also be one of the most drawn away, I spend long periods of time alone to process things also. So there is a balance and I think people may vary a bit depending on time of life and individual personality but over all we really really do need alone time no matter how much i love some one i need time to just let my brain do its thing uninterrupted. so yeah thats why we often get called both we kidna are a hybid .

Me, an ENFJ: my first result was actually ENFJ, and so it was for several other times. A couple of years later, jobless and depressed, I took another test, and it gave me ENFP, and then ENTP, and then another one ESFJ...! I basically had an identity crisis, and so I did what any other extroverted feeler would have done: asked my mom, girlfriend, and friends for opinions and thoughts about it! 😂😂😂 Like, one night I literally CRIED over the thought "What if next time I turn out to be an ENTJ? I'm too into leadership roles! I'm too perfectionist! I can be quite manipulative and sassy! I'm...I'm...I'M A MONSTER! I HURT PEOPLE ALL THE TIME, I'M THE WORST!" - this is what panicking in Fe looks like. God bless my INFJ girlfriend (who's also a psychologist) and her introverted intuition as dominant function ahahah. 🙏🏻🥺 // also, for the ENTJs who may read this comment: I absolutely don't think you are bad people, guys! We're all unique and amazing, and I admire your type for so many reasons, it's just that...I really care about not having Fe as inferior function, you know? 😅 But it's me, not you! You are perfect the way you are 💞

I'm an ENFP and I tested as INFP in the tests I did a year ago and the reason is what's in the video (and my social anxiety which I'm getting over right now thankfully :))) Me watching your videos solidified my feeling about me actually being an ENFP and literally your sister Jenna is me. I was throwing my hands up in joy when she said some stuff that were sooooo me lmao I feel like one reason we say we're introverted is because social interactions are sooo tiring. I really do love interacting with people and exploring ideas with them but it's draning to talk and think for all that time. What makes us introverts is I think being closed up in a social setting being really uncomfortable. When I cant express my feelings in a social environment it feels stressing, I wanna talk to people or just leave rather than just sitting there in silence (unless we all have work to do or we are close) Nice ENFP tangent I know lmao :P

1:12 Sadly people still think that Introversion and extroversion in MBTI, is the same as being socialy extroverted or introverted. Which is not the case at all. Extroversion means where the focus is, is it external or internal. Not necessarily on people. ENxPs are mainly focused on getting new ideas whatever the source is, and Se doms on new experiences, even if there is no people involved. People focus way to much on the social side, when often it is irrelevant in MBTI. ExxPs might seem easily excitable, but won't focus on people nearly as much as ExxJs would. Making them think they are more introverted, because their focus is on ideas or experiences, not on the people. Sure they might be more extroverted than introverts, because the focus is more externally focused. But IxxJs can be more people focused than ExxPs even if their dominant function makes them more introspective. I am an ENTP, and I am socially an ambivert. But because the E in ENTP, is not social extroversion, there is no such thing as an ANTP. I am an extrovert in MBTI, and socially am an ambivert, two very different things.
@emilys3638
@emilys3638 2 жыл бұрын
Yes! It breeds boundless confusion. I've taken to using the terms "outgoing" vs. "reserved" when speaking of social presentation, and "external" vs. "internal" when referring to cognitive functions. I've found it gets the point across better than the commonly-used terminology. Examples: I am an outgoing introvert and my sister is a reserved extrovert. But we are both sure of the accuracy of our types. My dad is an extremely reserved introvert and my mom a very outgoing introvert, etc. And when in conversation, I'll say "External Sensing" for Se, and "Internal Intuition" for Ni, to give a couple examples. I know it's not "proper", but it communicates the concepts better in my experience, and isn't clarifying our mental processes the whole point of MBTI? So I agree with what you've said.
@farrex0
@farrex0 2 жыл бұрын
@@emilys3638 Ooh I really like that, I think that using internal and external is a more accurate representation of what functions really are. I might just start using it. Thanks Emily. And I do something similar with the reserved and outgoing, but I use the word sociable instead. But they do mean different things, so it is a different categorization. But thank you Emily! you have given me a lot of food for thought.

@@farrex0 You're welcome! I'm glad. It's brought a lot of clarity for myself, as well as others that I talk about this with. I also think the trouble with the stereotype of "extroverts are social and introverts are antisocial" is that it's not true for most of us!! I would never consider myself antisocial, and was labeled am extrovert my entire life as a result, but I am absolutely an introvert when it comes down to the science of when I drain and when I recharge. And I don't "hate people" nor even the occasional party, I just can't go socializing for days on end with no break. And even some of my reserved introverted friends are surprisingly hungry for social opportunities. So using these alternate terms to delineate the differences seems to really paint the picture in more accurate colors that more people can understand and relate to. It's really great to have these discussions with people like you who have noticed the discrepancies between these terms and are trying to come up with better ways to label it.
@farrex0
@farrex0 2 жыл бұрын
@@emilys3638 Absolutely, there is a lot more nuance than the false dichotomy most people use of introvert vs extrovert. Even with the ambivert clasification, is not enough. Of course it would depend from person to person, but a lot more understanding on these topics would help a lot. I too am pretty similar to you, I am socially an extrovert, in terms that I enjoy going out, talking and meeting new people. But I too get drained and need time for myself. That is why I describe myself as an ambivert. I wouldn't say I am outgoing, because I am quite chill, but I am very sociable and can befriend almost anyone. I can be somewhat reserved someitmes, because I like to truly think things through, but to some people i can share a lot and be truly an open book. One of my all time favorite things to do, is have profound conversations. Specially with people like you, who seem not only to be quite inteligent but a profound thinker, as well. It is truly a shame people like you are quite rare. So I too am enjoying a lot talking to you. If I were to meet you irl, I would have certainly befriended you.
@emilys3638
@emilys3638 2 жыл бұрын
@@farrex0 Absolutely, you've summed it up quite well and I can relate to a lot of that. (Socially, I'm predominantly a one-on-one person. In large groups of acquaintances I'm pretty reserved, but with those I know well, I'm not too chill at all, haha..) I actually think one of my brothers is an ENTP and the other is an INTP, so it's pretty fascinating to compare two similar types and see the differences. On the scale of outgoing to reserved they are actually quite similar, but I can definitely see the ENTP brother being more externally focused in exploring ideas (Ne) which he then organizes through Ti, whereas the INTP brother filters his ideas through Ti first and Ne second, and you could ask him about virtually any topic and he'll be able to provide at least a cursory amount of data. But the real telling point is the tertiary and inferior functions: my INTP brother is much more orderly and organized (using Si in favor of Fe) whereas the ENTP one definitely prioritizes Fe and doesn't typically stay organized or adhere to systems until he's under stress. I could be wrong in these assessments but this is what I've observed. But yes, they both express themselves moderately in social settings, neither reclusive nor particularly boisterous. The mischief, though.... They definitely are in cahoots and team up against us in that regard!! 😂 It's entertaining once you get them going! Also, the ENTP brother is more likely to present an idea that he's still actively exploring but maybe hasn't claimed for his own beliefs yet, whereas the INTP one is less likely to present any concepts that he hasn't first run through his Ti filter of "does this make sense". My sisters are ISFJ and ESTP so there's a lot of fun contrast there. And then I'm ISFP (the only Fi-user in the family as far as I can tell, haha!) But I digress... Well thank you! I actually quite enjoy profound conversations myself (I know, a surprising thing to hear from a Sensor, but I really love to go deep and get to the real heart and meaning of things! It's probably my tertiary Ni. My friend and I like to call the tertiary function your "pet of pride" because you have the most potential to develop it and see tangible and significant improvement over time, so one tends to be proud of their use of that function even though it's not used at the high-level skill of the dominant and secondary functions.) I'm also married to an INFJ, and have several close N-type friends, so that's probably been a big influence on my appreciation for theoretical topics and deep conversations. I'm definitely still an S-type (deeply observant and engaged in the physical world -- the Se is strong with this one!), but in conversation I enjoy getting people to open up about their true interests, and dive into deep and complex topics rather than skimming along with small-talk. I definitely agree we would be friends if we met in person. 😊

The ENTJ picking up what they like and dropping the rest of the information they are being provided is a spot-on. As an ENTJ, this is how I learn and adapt in the real world, I'm kinda "stealing" what I like in terms of ideas and practices, because I'm not as creative as an ENTP, or an INTP would. I wish I was though. Instead, I could spend hours of research on a topic in which I am interested in, so that I can draw a short conclusion from all of the pages I have read, and that is the only thing I would remember at the end - the conclusion. And, some interesting side details I've learned along the way. Anything else-I just drop it.
