As an inxx, I sell things for my work. I just replace my opinion with other people's opinions. They ask me for my opinion and I reply "oh my coworker is always telling me how much she loves that one". Or "people buy that one more than the others". And usually nobody presses it further. It helps me avoid things like saying that I it's ridiculously priced and unethically made... so long as I met someone else who liked it. 🤦

@@thisishowitallends9321 They don't usually verbally spill it out, but their thoughts do go similar ways. I am an INTJ, but having high Fi, I can relate to the case of imaginary stuff that INFPs make in their heads. I have done similar things as a child, knowingly. Though, I don't make it out of association with Si, (personal attachment to the outward object due to its characteristics) and I make "characters" (Ni) not stories out of the otherwise inanimate objects. I had made characters having a certain inclination, a certain meaning etc. out of things like electric bulbs, power indicators in switchboard and what not. :) The imagination is a strong tool, it has helped me as a child to see world differently, and it has significantly helped me with my art as well. I am sure INFPs also find the imagination they got in the form of stories and poems as a powerful form of art.

Especially when these are clothes that need to be folded. The ones on the hangers I get back, when I need to switch size / colour and therefore go to the same place again anyway.

@@ZuerstJesus you know, I wonder whether people actually do talk to clothes. 👀 Wasn't sure if you joked or not, but it still got along with stereotypical portrayal of an INFP in this video. Everywhere you can? 😂 I know an ENFP who does have whole hobby room filled with merchandise and stuff, it's so neat and looks like section at some store. All rare funko pops neatly stored in their boxes, the decorations frequently changed and dusted to make the room look nice and fresh. They are also doing bullet journals and stuff, maybe they are trying to keep their chaos at bay. 😂 Or maybe they keep it neat, because it's their hobby.

I didn’t find retail hard. Just freaking boring. So I made sure to make lots of friends from other Departments to get into all sorts of shenanigans. Was the best days of my life, really. Would come, sell some stuff, have fun with my friends, drink alcohol at lunches and then get paid on top of that. Amazing deal.

as an ex-retail store head manager & ISTP - I can verify that I spent as much time as possible "in the back" working on organizing the inventory, rather than dealing with customers, lol. Looking back, I'm still shocked I accepted that position - but I was young, had a new family - so needing money trumped being wholly uncomfortable, lol. I went home utterly exhausted mentally every day - no job ever stressed me out like that one. Never again. lol

ISTP here, too. I can't figure out which I would want to do least: chatting with random customers or organizing stuff. I tried to use math to figure it out, but I got a "divide by zero" error. I could work retail if I were selling stuff that was fun and involved lots of technical details and esoteric trivia. I could work in a dirt bike shop. But that's kind of a no-brainer since from all I could tell, everyone working there is also an ISTP. The mechanics are the less gregarious and the counter guys a little more so, but let's just say, there aren't any ENFPs around. And the people there all like dogs.

Another ISTP here. I have worked way more customer service than any introvert ever should in my life and I’ve gotten surprisingly good at it, but whenever I can find a way out of the spotlight I’ll take it. One job was a call center troubleshooting issues with customer orders. My supervisor was also an ISTP I think and even though I was *supposed* to answer call after call, he realized I’d really prefer just doing the behind the scenes stuff on the computer. So I just quit taking calls and he never said a word as long as other stuff got done. I actually ended up loving that job and only left because I (along with 80% of our office) got laid off.

I can relate. We generally don't care much about anything and try to keep our mental thoughts to ourselves. It's either that or we go full blown, direct opinion about sth lmao. My view mirrors exactly like the ISTP retail worker being portrayed here. I don't care that much on clothes and being look "presentable", that's why my mother gets annoyed at me time to time. She is an ISFJ. ...I also fking hate wearing formal wear to my job.

As an ISTP I'd like to mention that our customer service always comes in the "blunt but accurate" version, we do not offer an alternative like the INTJ. We could - in theory -, but we generally don't care enough. (Also, you won't likely see us for long in customer service anyway...)

As an INTJ with an ISTP best friend, she forgot to mention an alternate version both types have: unmitigated rage. For the INTJ, it originates from being surrounded by stupidity and incompetence. For the ISTP, it originates from a prolonged lack of Se stimulation. Given ISTPs are better at acquiring the latter than INTJs are at avoiding the former, an enraged ISTP is a rare but exciting sight to behold lol.

My reply to it was: "I am an awkward person. This is not the first awkward thing I've said, and it won't be the last." As an INTP there is a reason I have never worked retail. I did try selling Life Insurance because they at least had a script I could follow, but I dropped that after 1 month in the field. But ironically customer service/hospitality (hotels) has been my "career choice" for the last..well a long time. Mostly because I go for the jobs where there is more problem solving than people interaction. But after years of working in this field I have developed algorithms and programs in my brain to successfully interact like an almost normal human being. But every weekend I hide in my house to try and recharge my social battery for another week of hell.

I worked in Sales as well. Cold calling, warm leads and in person appointments. Retail can be rough, because it does require talking, and a lot of it. I did enjoy working at Art Auction house, where I held a booklet with starting bid on memorabilia. Best part was I was not required to give any opinion about a certain piece to potential Clients. One might call that a 'built-in' gift of sorts. 👍 Yes, I believe it. Me as well, chose a field of customer service.

I work in IT/AV support and I'm exactly the same. I can tolerate service-related roles as long as I'm more of a background dweller, but I still have to interact with people enough to the point where my battery can't really be restored to full charge, even after a nice weekend alone. Funny thing is I actually tried working retail between jobs last year and actually got fired because I "wasn't interacting with customers enough"...very good riddance

By the sound of it the winning strategy is to do the job as a tag team with the ESFP, doing monotonous jobs with no people in the storage room whilst thinking of other things as the ESFP does the whole interacting with humans thing sounds like a win-win for everyone.

Honestly, I would rather see Kristin write INTPs in a way in which they are forced to actually engage with the situation presented - very few INTPs are so socially inept as to constantly shut down or run away. Not to mention this is often not possible.

​@@lordrotarec Very true, and as a somewhat healthy INTP, I am actually able to have a conversation with people even if I don't enjoy it. I recently wondered how many of these sketches show the strengths of an INTP rather than the weaknesses (even though a personality trait is neither a strength nor a weakness per see) and how you could portray an INTP in these situations dealing with the uncomfortable like a grown-up. Maybe in this case it would be an inner monologue preparing for the conversation. But in the end, I still do choose to avoid such situations, even if not as blatantly as in the humorous sketch. I would probably use my already mentioned method of finding excuses to do something else (if possible), making a deal like KarlJaeger implied ("You do what you're good at, I'll do what I'm good at"), or I would try to cut the conversation short by giving well-prepared, concise statements.

​@@lordrotarec Absolutely. I've always got on pretty well in customer-facing jobs. The one thing I'm never going to be able to do though is be a manipulative, smarmy salesman. But genuine helpfulness and frank, peer-to-peer honesty goes down pretty well with most customers, except for perhaps those few whose worldviews are most heavily built around some sort of notion of social front or status. And with those people, we were always going to look at each other as incomprehensible oddballs and quickly move on anyway, so it's no great hindrance. 😂

My social INTP experience is a mix between the ways in which Kristin usually presents INTJs and ENTPs. I don't constantly encourage conflict like the ENTP and I'm more playful than INTJ - being a social shut in is something done OUTSIDE of social interactions, not during them.

Yes but I think it comes from a place that most people, if it's not a subject they're learned in, would be intimidated by being given just dry facts since they would think they couldn't understand it anyway. You could make slight alterations, highlight what you think is most important, and most importantly- give them the feeling it's a safe space for them to make calls (some fe slipping there...) And they may be more capable of grasping information. -infj

INTP here. I've worked a couple of different retail jobs. I lasted 4 years at one of them, during uni, but it was at a bookstore, and my main responsibilities were to track inventory, (which I was really good at, because I knew every inch of that store, including all of the secret hiding spots) and recommending teen/children's literature. I never even had to learn how to use the cash register at that job. The highlight, was when I got sent to WorldCon (sci-fi/fantasy convention) as a vendor, because it was happening locally, and I was the biggest sci-fi nerd on staff. I met a ton of my favourite authors, and managed to save my manager from shaming himself by revealing to Tom Doherty's face that he didn't have a clue who he was. (Major sci-fi publisher.) My other retail job was at a soap store. My manager was a weasel, and when I quit, after 7 months, I was a floor manager, and second in seniority, because there was that much turnover.

ISTJ here. I knew to keep those comments to myself when I worked retail, but of course I was thinking it. Dealing with customers was horrible and exhausting, but I enjoyed the days when my boss put me in charge of reorganizing the stockroom. I was good at that, so that happened often, even though it wasn't supposed to be part of my job. I worked hard to be friendly with the customers. Most of the time I was like the ISFJ in this skit, but on a good day I acted a lot like the ENFP. People seemed to like that, and I received many compliments in the customer surveys on those days. 🙂

Mate, the black jeans are a good call, but you can trick people into thinking you have a fashion choice if you contrast that with a bright color. People are more willing to work with you if you look nice, however illogical that might be. I worked in retail in high school (in my early 30s now) and just got paid an hourly minimum wage. I passively refused to do the blantently manipulative stuff the company asked us to do and won awards for customers saying nice things about me. I'd also often have people come up to me and ask questions like, "What shirt should I buy for my 13 year old great-niece's Christmas gift?" and come back the following year to specifically find me because she liked what I chose so much. Lucky guesses? Not as relevant, but they'd also lock us in the store to make sure no one left an hour after the store closed as scheduled (10 PM), and often would force people to work until 2 or 3 AM instead. I ended up needing to leave that job when I turned 18 because I no longer had the minor worker protections and knew, "Please let me go home; my school starts at 7 AM, and I still have homework to do and it is 11 PM" would not work with most managers. That kind of feels like it ought to be illegal... - INFJ

But then I saw the very clearly illegal part of locking employees in and forcing them to work into the night and don't think even they do such shit. But maybe I don't know something. Given the world we live in, it could be literally every place. But then again, there are some people even in this comment section that would be fine with it. The dehumanisation of retail staff is a real thing and something needs to be done about it.

@@reddae6910 You're right, I had customers wherever I worked and I have them now and this was always the most enjoyable part. Whenever we had visitors, I always offered myself as a contact person and translation help (but my main objective was always connecting with people). Unfortunately the people in this particular office were toxic. And they didn't want to give me that sales job that I said I wanted :) But I loved my customers and they loved me. Even my boss said that how is it that you get along so well with customers but can't get along with the coworkers. Well if the coworkers weren't toxic bullies, I would. My customers always say that I go the extra mile for them and I know without them even acknowledging this, that they like working with me. So given that the people on the other end are normal, they will definitely appreciate our dedication and care.

If you don't mind my asking, what country do you live in? Because, in the U.S. at least, your employer's treatment of you, such as locking you into the store, would have violated any number of labor laws, both general ones and ones for the protection of child workers. I'm not assuming, by the way, that this didn't or couldn't have occurred in the U.S., it's just that I find what you describe to be genuinely shocking. Though, perhaps I shouldn't, perhaps I'm just naive.

I can totally see that ‘jokester’, who the ESTJ was scolding, being the ESTP (I would totally put on the oh so far more entertaining music of heavy metal. Well at least it's Christmas. As an ESTJ I usually don't say anything but I do get annoyed at people who blare music that most people don't like out of their car speakers or whatever. If it was something like 80's I wouldn't even mind, but it's usually trap music or screamo. I like some rock music but it's nice if I can pick out the melody.

As soon as INFJ started talking, I knew it was me, and when INTP started hiding in the clothes, I was just thinking “awh that’s a great idea, i’d do that too so i could avoid dealing with the customers again” and lo and behold! Knocked the lilac pants off the rack again, Kristin! 😂❤ EDIT: I came back because I forgot, but this is definitely the attitude to me picking up our customer service line! Thank God for my ISTJ supervisor and ENFJ coworker, who are much better at promptly dealing with customers and talking to people (respectively).

I used to work in a garden-centre. The most fun job I've ever had, helping old ladies and gentlemen pick out their favoured garden-plants, helping people load heavy bags of soil or bark, massive pots or garden-furniture into their cars, helping a newly-wed couple pick out their first berry-bush. At Christmas-time people would stop by to pick up flowers for gifts or handmade grave-decorations to put on the graves of their loved ones. I did see 'recurring characters', and it was always lovely to see the same people again. To get to know them, and help them with any problems they might have. You might hear how the tree you helped pick out was growing fine, or they might have issues, drought or fungus, shade or too sunny, and then we would together think out a strategy to help them with their problem. The ENTJ has it right. All those people previous had no sense of workers pride.

Maybe it's because it's a hard job, very low paid, a job no one wants to do, so people who are not in a position to choose a job they want often end up in retail, often the socio-economically vulnerable ones. But we look down on them. In people's condescending minds retail is a "low level" job that doesn't require a lot of skill. It requires A LOT of skill if you want to be good at it. Let some programmer onto a shop floor and you'll see how badly it will go. They're excellent at computers but mostly not great at sales. Many salespeople actually don't have great skills but then again no one really teaches them what to do (except in some segments of the market but even then the outcome isn't always great). If you don't have the talent and don't like your job, you won't be good at it. And being a c*nt to those people (as customers or as bosses) makes them even worse at what they do - and I believe it's not that uncommon. You're very privileged that you liked your job so you're in no position to justify someones rudeness.

@@PriHL That is a very fair point, friend! I by no means want anyone to treat a worker worse, simply because of their rudeness. What I want, is for a worker to be a good example of the contrary to popular belief. I don't want people to remember that poor worker when they think of retail, anyone who is in contact with other people can leave a lasting opinion that makes it better or worse for the retailers coming after them. Rudeness begets more rudeness. So what I want is for people to be nice, if able 😁 There's no reason to go about commenting on peoples chosen haircut if you can simply avoid talking about it in general, for instance. @@moobles2998 Yes, I agree, the gossipy, superficial talk like you mentioned with the hair is something easily avoided. I always say: if you don't have something positive to say, it's mostly better to refrain from stating your opinion. Especially in matters of not so important things like a hairstyle. I understand where you're coming from, I also want the employee to be a good example as they do not only represent themselves but the company. And it's always better to leave a good impression than a bad one. And customers who had a positive experience are more likely to come back or even bring their friends and family along, so it's a win-win for everyone.

As an ISFJ who has worked in retail, I can confirm this was accurate. Employee instructions were to not just say hello and try and elaborate, but it was hard trying to figure out how willing people were to talk when you just meet them.

I used to work in stores so this video is hilarious to me. I started out hired to be a salesman, but after a couple of months my manager offered me a job in product flow. My sales department was the cleanest, neatest and totally redesigned by me into a more logical space. I was awkward with talking to customers and my manager could tell that it was exhausting for me to try to socialize with people all day. I was much happier in product flow and really impressed the company there.

I worked in retail in London (big department store, not sure I can mention name) to get a little expat experience for 6 months and… worst part of my life, I still have nightmares. At a certain point I understood I had to act ESFP for some types of clients. It drained my soul. I was also negotiating with some “happy” extrovert colleagues to let me do back stuffs (stock room, daily emails, managing deliveries, etc). Only this way you can survive. “Fortunately” I quickly became supervisor so could let go a bit of customer interactions. Also I need to meet and INFP and watch them doing their stuffs not sure why but they are so interesting and kinda funny. Are you guys really like that? Cute ~ INTJ

Ouch, retail. I cannot even fathom me being good at it. Maybe working at online store and answering emails, if that even counts as retail. Back office sounds the safest, the less we interact with people the better for everyone. ^^` I'm wondering whether it would be true for you, too, but once I landed a job easily, because I presented myself as confident. And I was self confident, because I knew my qualifications are higher than they need and that I could land better job. But I was looking atm for not challenging job (yk, part time, needed to focus on something else), so it was fine.

Basically a guy approached me with it but I couldn't really say no (I mean, I could have said no but there'd have been consequences best avoided). And of all the jobs that I got interviewed for, this one was the one I got (I was ill at the interview too after having lost my voice...). I mean, I can't complain too much since it's a step-up from factory work (where I was utterly terrible) and call centre work for local government (where I got in trouble for actually trying to help people sort their issues instead of fobbing them off with lies and excuses).

@@user-mc5vy2vk5n Basically, I wasn't getting rid of people off the phones quickly enough (because I was actually listening to them and trying to figure out how to help them as best as I could with the no power I had. It was soul-crushing. Not to mention the ideological brainwashing they tried to make me go through in the e-learning where it was like "Hey, here are these highly political topics we're supposed to be neutral on. Now you have to give the "correct" answers for these topics and if you don't, you have to redo it until you give the answers we want you to give... I wrote them a lot of feedback on that... politely worded of course but very direct and with suggestions for improvement) and the phone lines were constantly clogged with people because of underlying issues that weren't being solved. I got in trouble once because someone angry called up about an issue that was unacceptable on local gov's part (and it's what 90% of the calls were about... ), I was calm and unruffled as I focused on trying to solve his issue (not that I actually could, but I could at least try...) and then he apologised to me so I said a lighthearted little comment to let him know I didn't feel any resentment or anything (nothing rude) and this woman was like "YOU CAN'T SAY THAT!!!" -.- I was glad to be out of there. xD Not to mention me hating phones and also the total lack of sleep from the hours and the travel (factoring in unreliable transport too... -.-). People on the phones could tell I was exhausted all the time... Used to discreetly hide in the toilets between calls to recharge. xD

Kristin, as an INFJ I was thinking maybe God is also an infj or enfj. Googling came to mixed results of course. I didn't consider the holy trinity and it was saying like god the father is istj or intj or even intp. But it seemed pretty accepted that jesus and the holy spirit/holy ghost(?) were infjs. So like ... I'm not religious but more spiritual (it's been a journey), but please can you do a video for this? Like how does One entity have different personalities? How is God seen as benevolent, caring, and all forgiving but also as a strict hard-ass that takes no prisoners? (exaggerating) Love from nz!
