Designed for writers and method actors who have never studied psychology and who have no interest in studying psychology. This series outlines each of the sixteen Jungian personality archetypes to better get you inside your character’s head. Special emphasis on how each type processes and priorities information, the nuances of their communication style, how their humor manifests, and what each type looks like as a villainous character. This week's focus is on the INTP's personality.

I've noticed that so many INTPs (and as one myself) struggle internally with combatting a god-complex but also feeling like they're not good enough.

Any other INTPs here who like to “organise” their mess? I mean, I can have tons of empty water bottles in my room but as long as they're arranged neatly, they don't bother me. I usually throw them out when I get my (sort of) occasional energy rush and motivation - I call them my “INTJ” moments 😂

Being an INTP is such a curse, you're constantly overthinking everything, remebering seemingly random emberassing situations you where in years ago. You want to do stuff, but never do it because you think its not worth the engergy in the end and then the thinking starts again like what if I did it(but you still don't do it). Every thing you think is important to you is totally irrelevant for all the other people around. Also I feel like I have a big godcomplex because it feels like you can predict what happens, but then you are also constantly reminding yourself that thats absolutly not a good way in life, so you are telling yourself you are inferior to counteract that(which is really selfdestructive). Also you can't talk with anyone about that since they would most likely think that you are weird(which is probably the case(which I hate(which is the cause(and on and on and on.....)))). It's just constant selftorture that only amplifies the more you think about it. I hate what I am. feels good to have sai... written that.

Your post reminds me so heavily of my husband when we first met. He struggled so hard to get out of his own head and not beat himself down. Coming from someone who loves an INTP, what will help you the most is to help others. You need that responsibility like you need air. It will make you happier, it will quiet that voice that says you'll never measure up, and it will make you smarter. No one can beat the INTP when it comes to improving other's efficiency or in creating systems for others who aren't good at it. You guys rock at it and it makes you so happy. Once you understand a system you can instantly see the potential break points. Hubby is a teacher now, and he's been able to advise admin away from numerous decisions that would have made the transition to virtual even more chaotic. Getting the gumption to do the same for yourselves takes a freaking act of congress and you need someone like me (NTJ) to flat-out order you to do it, lol! Or to frame it in a way that makes it about not-them ("Honey, we need to eat better because it's our responsibility to model healthy behaviour for the children. That's our job as parents and their future health and wellbeing depends on us to do it.") INTPs have this tendency to put themselves on the back burner (especially in regards to their health), but will bend over backwards for others. This usually means they get taken advantage of which feeds your internal negative narrative, so there is a balancing act and it's your responsibility to make sure you are spending your attention and caregiving responsibly. It's the difference between caregiving and enabling--are you helping others improve themselves and avoid problems, or are you bailing them out when what they need is to feel some consequences? The first should result in respect and appreciation, the latter the opposite. I hope that helps

Holy shit. I don’t know how to accurately express through text how relieving that was to read. Especially telling yourself that your complexes arent ethical so you degrade yourself in response. I still don’t know how to combat that. It’s so hard not to feel superior when everyone around me seems to lack my “level of awareness.” But even in saying that I sound like a dick Who thinks I’m better than everyone else. I don’t think that but I wish people just saw the things that I see. It sounds complicated and stupid but I feel so crazy and alone in my thought process. I predict EVERYTHING that ends up happening and still no one listens to me or sees the patterns and how the outcome is connected to the beginning. It feeds my ego admittedly so I have to stomp it down to keep it in check.

Hahaha! It IS weird to see other's thoughts shared that so completely reflect my own. "One of us! One of us!" The reason I chose this particular thread to weigh in on was the writing style: multiple interlacing sentence fragments organized in a Russian nesting doll of parentheses- I thought my thoughts (and this writing) were the only ones so convoluted. Reading this was like rereading my own musings. Oh, and other replier mentioned the prediction thing where we can ALWAYS foresee the bad thing coming but are incapable of getting anyone else to acknowledge- and then when it DOES happen just as we predicted no one remembers that we saw it coming. It's called the Cassandra Syndrome - watch Terry Gilliam's Twelve Monkeys movie. You can see my own sentence fragment/punctuation writing style here. I wouldn't be able to write a paragraph were it not for multiple commas, parentheses, and dashes. I get that's not a comfortable style for other personality topologies, but that's the only comfortable way for me to express how I organize thoughts. I'm currently procrastinating from a very important task right now, so I'd better get to it.

Worth a four-day trip. You would enjoy going to the Ark Encounter, Creation Museum, and Creation Falls in Kentucky. Truth matters and God's glory doesn't deny that, it supports it better than anything the world has without him. This is a place where truth and spirituality meet in a peaceful and clear way. I do not live in the area, but our science minded family found value with the trips. 1 The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above[a] proclaims his handiwork. 2 Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. 3 There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard. 4 Their voice[b] goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them he has set a tent for the sun, 5 which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber, and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy. 6 Its rising is from the end of the heavens, and its circuit to the end of them, and there is nothing hidden from its heat. 7 The law of the Lord is perfect,[c] reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; 8 the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; 9 the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the rules[d] of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether. 10 More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. 11 Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward. 12 Who can discern his errors? Declare me innocent from hidden faults. 13 Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression. 14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer. Footnotes of Psalm 19 Psalm 19:1 Hebrew the expanse; compare Genesis 1:6-8 Psalm 19:4 Or Their measuring line Psalm 19:7 Or blameless Psalm 19:9 Or just decrees

I cannot tell if it is a compliment or an insult to be compared to the synthetic life from from the movie Alien. I do know that Neo from the Matrix is a compliment even if he was considered to be an anomaly. These characters, quite honestly are very tragic and it gives me pause. Am I perceived by the human race as tragic outsider but yet I am forced to participate? I remember a patient (I work in Neurology, imagine that) of mine asked me what I wanted be when I grew up when I was her age and I replied, "An Astronaut, I wanted to get to Pluto." The astute young lady replied softly, "That's as far away as you can get and still be home, I guess." This is starting to get a little depressing. Maybe tonight I'll watch 2001 A Space Odyssey, the scene where Bowman goes through the Stargate on loop. ((I began to edit my post but then gave up because few would care))

What's wrong with Hiccup???? Everyone loves Hiccup. Also, remember the context of these videos: writing fictional characters for a fictional story. A character is boring unless they contribute to the conflict of the story. People who have their shit together and avoid drama may make fantastic neighbors, but terrible characters. No one wants to read about a Mary Sue. Flaws, struggles, and even dysfunction, so long as it is consistent and internally logical, is what connects us and endears us to fictional characters. This series is all about exploiting every potential for drama so as to create a more engaging story. Alien was a 1979 film that is still regularly referenced and is considered a standard of the genre--do you think that would have happened if the primary antagonist was less than engaging? Love Ash or hate Ash--you certainly won't forget him.

Still Yoda failed to see the Dark Side of the Force and went into self exile and two characters aren't really human. Was that the 30 yr old virgin character? Didn't see that movie. You are correct that good stories need build and resolve friction, suffering, etc. My son just finished a report on T. HOWEVER, MY FEELINGS FOR HER WOULDN'T GO ANYWHERE UNLESS SHE LIKES SOMEONE ELSE. I CAN WAIT UNTIL EVERYTHING FEELS RIGHT TO ME TO DO SOMETHING. I'M STILL FIGURING THINGS OUT, BOTH MY LIFE AND MY EMOTIONS. BUT, IF I JUS CAN SIMPLY TELL HER SHE'S THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PERSON I KNOW, SHE LIGHTS UP MY WORLD, I WANNA BE WITH HER, AND I'LL PROTECT HER MORE THAN MYSELF, THAT WOULD BE NICE.

I am deeply INTP. Overall the descriptions are pretty good. One thing that felt incorrect to me is the reason given for why we spend so much time alone-as a defense mechanism against guilt from our trying to help backfiring; I didn't relate to that section of the video at all. The reason I prefer to be alone is because people and their small talk and extraversion are beyond exhausting, and I have better things to do with my time. Also, the delayed response and mental lag time frustrates the heck out of us, too. It would be awesome if the great responses we come up with an hour later had shown up when they would have actually been useful. The part about nostalgia did not ring true for me either. I value Information and experiences from the past not for sentimental reasons, but to make wiser decisions in the present and not repeat past mistakes. To say we are nostalgic contradicts the perception that we are all robots without emotions. The rest of your descriptions felt pretty spot on. Thanks for a fun look into my insides :)

As a convert to devout Catholic Christianity, am obligated more now to reach out to others to uplift their spirits, and lend a hand before they ask ...which is really exhausting, although does give peace of mind. Am a deeply emotional person, however since I never forget that ALL emotions are in reaction to ideas, I seek the source of the ideas ...then decide if am on target with what is true, beautiful and Eternal. If not, I veto & correct my emotional error. Yes ..organization is essential - even though it may not appear as organized to someone else: am always aware of various layers of data that need to be coordinated & addressed. Do not like being around others very often - even if I really like them & we have much in common. It's draining. I think of others often & pray for them always...but frequent physical presence is just too much!!! Thank you for your video 🌹

@cynthiapayne9906

I'm glad I got it right enough to strike a nerve, lol! My hubby's an INTP and when he's stuck, it takes someone else calling him out (me, his doctor, one of his guy friends, etc) and specifically calling him out on how he is failing to meet his responsibilities to get him un-stuck. Ya'll are so easy to guilt into action it's ridiculous, but it has to be framed in a way so that it's not about benefiting you or about what you want, and is instead about your relationship and responsibilities in regards to other people. So, I have to say "You need to start eating better because it is your responsibility to model heathy behavior for the kids, and they look to you for guidance on how a responsible adult takes care of themselves" because if I say "You need to start eating better so that your health will improve and that will make your quality of life better," then nothing is going to change. So, if you don't have anyone who will call you out and you are looking to motivate yourself, perhaps look at your relationships and see how you could better fulfil your responsibilities to those relationships in a way that also benefits you. Failing that, find a way to help someone and increase your responsibilities, even if only temporarily (volunteer work is great for this). And thank you so much for watching! I do love all of you wonderful INTPs out there

@@cynthiapayne9906 it's weirdly true that I don't prioritize goals for myself or for my own benefit first. Such as eating healthy. Whereas if I know someone close to me is trying to keep healthy habits I immediately try and think of things that benef them but also fit them and their personality and start trying to help implement them right away. At the moment I think this has been more difficult due to the current state of the world but also most people around me are also stagnent in their own lives too even though we keep eachother supported. I honestly think it's part psychological and that me and others won't feel the 'push' for change until the new year starts even if the situation stays pretty much the same, because the idea of a fresh start is what will push many of us towards change
@cynthiapayne9906
@cynthiapayne9906 3 жыл бұрын
@@lovel2940 I don't think I've ever met an INTP who wasn't willing to help others--even eager to help. You guys are fantastic at it and it makes you so happy and it seems to be your main avenue for growth, but I feel like one of INTPs biggest stumbling blocks is when they go for a time without anyone to help or they end up not helping, but enabling a less healthy individual, and then they get stuck. And because they are stuck and not advancing, but everyone around them is advancing, they are now no longer in a position of being able to help those around them--they don't have the greater skills or the life experience or the new connections anymore--so they get into this toxic circle of stuck-in-a-ruttness. I've seen INTPs near and dear to me spend a decade not pursuing a career they wanted to pursue or a goal they wanted to achieve and instead remain in a position of complete stagnation. The layers of excuses and rationalizations they would come up with were mind-boggling. It was very frustrating for me because I cared for these people and didn't know how to help them do what they wanted to do. I am so grateful to this MBTI system for teaching me that it's my responsibility as someone who loves an INTP to call them out when they get stuck like this. It would totally backfire on most other types, but it's exactly what INTPs will respond to. Knowing what motivates us gives us the tools to work "with" ourselves rather than against ourselves. So, if I as a random internet chick who happens to love INTPs may be so bold, let me say this: Don't wait around for a year or ten years for someone else to give you permission to do something with your life, or you will find yourself helpless to help those you care most for.

...how is that selfish? Of course making others feel bad makes you feel bad--that's called being a healthy human being. You INTPs are just more sensitive and insecure about it than other types and can be more easily manipulated by it. Just look at how far in your head you are about trying to make yourself feel better when you make someone else feel bad. Wanting to feel good by helping others feel better isn't a bad thing. It's a healthy human thing. People volunteer and donate to charity because it gives them a boost, not because they are selfless. The end result is the same--everyone benefits, so how is the base motivation a bad thing when the result is a good thing?

Holy crap. I always thought I was an ISTJ because all the tests I've taken said I am, but today for the first time I got INTP on the Sakirnova test with a low ISTJ score, so I decided to look into INTP. So far from the videos I watched I relate more to ISTJ descriptions, but for the first time, this video makes me think that I might actually be an INTP. I never related to the description of ISTJ being outwardly emotionless and following the rules to a T, and also being tidy (though the strange thing is that I am VERY tidy at work, but VERY messy at home, and on top of that I am strict about other people's tidiness - hooray double-standards...(slow clapping)) But the weird thing is that though I mostly agree with what you are saying, I hardly relate to the characters being shown. XD (or maybe I just need to evaluate where they're coming from rather than how much I like or agree with them) I related so much more to the characters in the ISTJ video, except for the fact that said characters are way too rigid and emotionless for me. In this video, I related the most to Ash from Aliens, though he too is way too rigid and emotionless for me. The part that I most related to in this video is the severe isolation bit. Even the reason is spot-on, and I endulge in watching KZbin videos and playing video games all day (which is exactly my current situation, because all my hard work and preparations for the future got obliterated by the pandemic). I shall continue my journey of ISTJ vs INTP. I really really relate to both.

May I recommend a different test? This series of videos is based on CS. Joseph's work in Jungian psychology and his is the system I subscribe to in general (link in description). He has his own test on csjoseph.life which is adaptive, so you can jump around and only answer the questions you are sure about and the test will eliminate questions as you go based on how you've answered. It's also recommended that you take the test with someone who knows you well to help you answer the questions. Two big differences between ISTJs and INTPs are that ISTJs are Affiliative and Concrete, while INTPs are Pragmatic and Abstract. As a general idea, if you're already thinking I'm talking hookey and are not trusting a word I'm typing here, lean towards INTP. If you think the idea of taking the test with a friend could be cool, lean towards ISTJ, lol! ISTJs will gravitate towards teamwork and how we can all work together and will start with what is known, then decide how it can be fixed/improved. INTPs will start with the "what if?" and then work to figure out the best way of making it happen, and will prefer to work alone unless there is a need or benefit to bringing in others. Best of luck to you on figuring it out!

I'm so glad things are looking up! i guess the best advice I can give is to just keep focusing on improving yourself--reading, growing, making and working towards goals, growing other friendship relationships, etc, and not relying on your partner to fulfil every emotional need. The more you are desired by others (and I'm speaking mostly platonically here--the more others desire to have you in their life in some capacity), the more you will feel secure in yourself and that positive cycle will feed on itself and will quiet a lot of these "what if?" questions that plague you. Best of luck and take care of yourself!

Cynthia Payne As an INTP yank with family in the south, I can appreciate the nuance of the phrase “bless your heart”. It reminds me of the scene in The Matrix when the Merovingian likens cursing in French to using silk toilet paper. I love it!

@@G_Demolished 😂 I once had a colleague from up north who kept using the phrase incorrectly. As in, intending the literal translation. She thought it was a nice thing to say and she was a legit lovely woman. I'll never forget the look on her face when I finally took her aside and told her it didn't mean what she thought it meant...

i think us intps are so prone to procrastination is because for 1, we love thinking, to kee analyzing things in our head and to keep thinking of possibilities and solutions (Ti-Ne) we procrastination are often is also because of our ideas coming from our constant thinking. we are abstract theorists, our thoughts and ideas tend to be so big and logically consistent, it does not mean it’s practical in the real world. most likely the intp won’t put it into action because they are probably too lazy and just want to think more or they KNOW that the framework/process they have made is too abstract and not applicable to the real world. instead they would want others to do it for them, but not many will understand the our intp minds. another factor that can affect that discordance is our inferior Fe, when we want to share our ideas and solutions, since we are very logical, detached, and objectively want to be right. our words can come across as condescending or mean, just not taking into account the one who is receiving our informations feelings. understanding people’s perception of us can make us very critical of ourselves and don’t know whether our confidence should be raised or lowered to the ground. not really sure why i said all that, just needed to put my info out because i know other intps will understand

I was having trouble with explaining what i am or what i want on a dating app. So research I am interested in any other intps out there that were successful on those sites? Cynthia I thank you for the strong comments and efforts you put for now i can take notes to explain myself so i dont look like a Scammer! I find my sincerity is questioned so the end of the story I am trying to avoid. This video is a reminder of who we are. I am not a bad personality type i love me .

I'm glad you found this useful, and I am sorry you are having difficulty on these dating apps. I can imagine INTP men would be at an extreme disadvantage online. On the plus side, INTP men get picked up by women more than any other type in the bar scene. It involves actually going out to a bar, but once you're there you are free to read a book or bring some work. Your job isn't to do any approaching, just to be there. For the NJ women most compatible with you, you INTP men are like a freaking homing beacon--all the more so because you're so rarely out and about where we can see you. I'm the one who approached and asked out my INTP hubby. Work on a playing field where you have the advantage.

@@cynthiapayne9906 thank you Cynthia I appreciate your time and words more than you know. It's been an interesting experience to say the least, bad thing is now I am looking for even more truth and scammers are just insane and you won't win. I like to see their creation of lies then when you catch them they don't give up the lie 🤣😂🤣. The only thing that I see now is a scammer in everyone and everything when I am searching. So disappointing that people have to decieve but I have this feeling deep down that "SHE" will come out of nowhere. I didn't ever believe in hope so I guess it falls to repeated patterns in my life. At other moments in this journey I have been seeing we all want the same thing we all have different ideas and that's great,thou I am sad about labels, shame age sex color size people like whatever they like. Some of those tastes are indeed 😋 quite difficult to imagine for me. Now the question about if I was a real INTP I tested myself over a dozen times in 30 years well I found life has changed me as of lately Introvered intuitive is all I am sure of the other letter seem to change depending on mood and now I was told life experience 🙂. But always a skeptical being not able to trust or see what's in front of their face. The learning and lessons will continue. I am really starting to enjoy the exchange of fresh ideas and enlightenment, and I am so great full for people like you Cynthia ....one note this past year another lady named Cynthia has befriended me and another name that has kept showing up in this journey is Samantha. Now to most people it's just hyperbole but like on a beautiful mind I see patterns in everything an sometimes I feel like I lost my mind. Just yesterday I also seen mindfreak well if that isn't a movie made just for me I don't know what would be, someone actually put my dream on film. The passage back the what ifs although I wouldn't have used it quite as much honesty. I have bounced thru this conversation I truly appreciate this forum and am sorry if my excitement got the best of me here so much I would like to share I hope this sounds intelligent 😜 Stay healthy 💖💕😀

I absolutely adore this. "-- what level of ass ache they're willing to put up with..." I try to explain to people in my life ALL THE TIME why I won't take for instance a crappy promotion for a tiny raise in pay. I refuse to have 1000% more responsibility for 0.01% increase in pay. Ass ache = legitimate decision-making device.
