🔥🔥🔥MORE ON BATTING EXPLANATION➡ Imagine the quilt sandwich in your mind (a traditional quilt sandwich)....lay the backing wrong side up....then lay the batting with the holes facing up...then lay the quilt top right side facing up....When you free motion quilt or quilt the sandwich together ...the pretty side/quilt top facing up... your needle is going in quilt top through the path of the holes then through the backing...Hope that helps✅

Great quilting tips! Really liked the testing of the batting with a needle. Also liked your multi-colored thread that you FMQ'd with. While mistakes might show up with darker thread, your quilt is still very beautiful, very colorful, and a very happy quilt. If anyone points out your mistakes, tell them to grab the quilt they made so you can point out their mistakes, too!!! 😉 Another great video, Tracy!

A good quilter always loves good tips. No matter how long we sew and quilt, there is still much to be learned. I love how you stepped out of your comfort box and went for the colorful quilting thread to finish. Drawing the corners…GENIUS! A Frixion pen would be just the thing if you’re pressing afterwards or a pen with blue wash-out ink. Anybody know how to remove tailor’s chalk? Thanks again for great tips as well as a well-produced video that moves right along. 😊

Magic Eraser works and so does a wet wipe... I would get the unscented kind. Or wait till you're done sewing and put it in the wash, then take a soft brush to it. You can add vinegar to the wash I heard that helps too.
@SusanSmith-hl3iv

Thank you, The Sewing Channel, Peg Handel, and Katee. I will try them all! I was sure there was a simple solution because tailor’s chalk has been around for so long. People wouldn’t use it if there was no way to remove it. I made a bunch of big Christmas stockings but first quilted the fabric. I used tailor’s chalk to draw straight lines. A Christmas stocking isn’t frequently washed, but I will pass on your ideas to the recipient. I did try unscented baby wipes which minimized the lines. Next time I will know a better way to quilt fabric without having to draw a bunch of lines.

I liked that you quilted the top with batting and then attached the backing. I have to try this when free motioning a larger quilt top. It will help to move the quilt around without the bulk of the backing too!! Brilliant!!

I really love the tip about pressing a pin into the batting to tell which side is front and which side is back. Also, I recently did the quilting on top and batting only and then attached the backing pretty much the way you did, and it was a game changer for me! Much less shifting with only 2 layers to start with and the backing felt much smoother without all the decorative quilting stitches, so nice to see someone else doing it this way!

Tracy, you’re gonna scream when I tell you this! 😂 You went to all that trouble to trim the red that was showing through; then you put a red backing on it, which also probably showed through. So, after all that, the red seam allowance probably wdnt hv shown in the end!!! Oh my! 😳😱🤣
@TheSewingChannel
@TheSewingChannel Жыл бұрын
I thought that through prior....I used pure white batting so the red gauze did not show🤷🏻‍♀️ But the red border def would have shown because it would be in front of the pure white batting. Honestly though it probably wouldn't of mattered...LOL🤣 But I couldn't NOT see it after I saw it LOL🤣

Flower, you're quilt is unique to you, and it is a one off, which we all make every time we craft. If someone notices any unique places, then they are not a friend. The coloured thread looked just beautiful with your feathers( i think that is what they are called, but i'm just on my 2nd quilt so please don't quote me) and all the beauty that it added to your gorgeous quilt. It has all the colours of the rainbow in it and this is definitely a anyone quilt and not gender specific in my eyes. Thank you so much for sharing your tips and your bonnie quilt. I need to make a comment regarding your KZbin channel and another that was recommended to me. The pattern was very pleasing, so I watched it. I was immediately aware of the difference in both of the channels. This other person did press the seams as she created her block. But she NEVER used a quilt ruler to ensure that she created an accurate block and to true-up the sides Her finished block looked (dare I say) sloppy. And of course, we never saw multiple blocks combined into a finished product. All I could think was:. Tracy would do it (fill in the blanks) as I compared each step. You are a great tutor for all quilters! 😘 I am sure glad I found your channel so many years ago

The white gauze I do not pre-washed, but the red I absolutely did because I didn’t want it to bleed through✅ I think it shrinks just like regular quilting cotton though… Because it is 100% cotton.

I want to try the gauze as a backing. Does it make the quilt a little less heavy than cotton?
@TheSewingChannel
@TheSewingChannel Жыл бұрын
I don't see a difference in weight. The main difference is...it's softer on the skin...more pliable....(quilting cotton tends to be stiff especially when binding it). That's why I choose to leave off the binding and "turn" the quilt" and then attach by tacking it all together so it doesn't "gape"✅

I am a longarmer. Our saying is: Hide the pimples, show the dimples. Meaning the dimple side of the batting faces your needle (shows), the pimpled side faces away from the needle (hides). It's an easy way to remember it. I may look into the double gauze, but might be a challenge on my longarm, and I don't do pillow turn backing like you do. But I can see how it would make a comfy back. Do you seam it, since it's only 53 wide, or do you use it only on smaller quilts?
