I really do agree with you on almost every point you made, Eileen. ( i am single but if i were married I’d want the birthday present!). Especially what you said about the high end skincare. I am older and i used to buy La Mer. But i ended up not seeing a real difference and my skin was good to begin with. Since then i use normal, vegan and cruelty free products and i still have good skin today. I don’t use someone to invest my money, i do it myself. And i don’t buy flowers for my apartment, but i buy good quality food for myself and my pets as i think that is very important.

There is no point in being selectively angry. So you don’t believe in buying fake bags, a purchase is a purchase, regardless of the intention. I personally think it's crazy to care too much about how people want to spend their money. I bought real coach, marc jacobs, and mcm. If it's more than 1500, I'll buy a replica *jklux* . Guess what else I have in the bank, I'm a homeowner and drive a Lexus. I saw someone on KZbin who had tons of luxury items, lived in their mom's house, and was broke

Another things to add to your list are, new phone and new computer gadget like ipad etc. I don't keep changing my mobile pH or apple gadgets everytime the new model comes out. Example: I still use my ipad gen 1 and iph 12.

We no longer purchase greeting cards, flowers or gifts between my husband and I. I recently purchased a new vehicle, but paid cash. My other car lasted over 12 years and I hope this will be my last one as I am currently retired and probably won't drive as much. I only bought one luxury handbag about 6 years ago and I don't have the desire to do so now. I just need to stop buying clothes. We use credit cards, but we pay them off each month they are due. Thanks for this video. I enjoyed it.

Thanks for the video. I would say that fakes have been around for years. I think it's only now coming to light because of social media. I have seen fakes of LV and Chanel since the 1990s and know how to get them if I want them *jklux* . So this is nothing new at all. If it seems like a lot, maybe people are just more aware than they used to of educational videos about real and fake stuff.

Eileen, when I watch your videos, I am listening to myself (almost). Everything you no longer buy or tell your husband not to buy for you, I am doing also. I don’t miss any of it. Travel souvenirs, home decorations, calendar holidays obligations…all that is easy to give up. The only 2 things I haven’t given up: the gym membership (we have access to a very inexpensive club where I live) and the investment manager. With market up and downs, the investment manager keeps our money invested to match our goals and makes the necessary adjustments so we don’t panic. To me, that peace of mind is worth it.

Agree with you on the books too. I'm amazed at the number of times I've come across books for 99 cents for my Kindle on sale and I joined a library system in the city so I have an even bigger selection to choose from for free. I've purchased a number of used books that have looked like new when they arrived. We don't have any subscriptions either, and when we do, we try to limit it to no more than two at a time.

Most of the things you said I have also been doing for years like no flowers, no gifts, not eating out, not buying currency etc. I have even taken it 1 notch higher buy not buying any luxury bags for an extended period of time so I can enjoy what I have. Example, my last luxury shopping spree period was somewhere in 2013-2015 and then I completely stopped. Now, I started again in 2023 and probably will end it in 2025. So I literally don’t buy anything for years and years and years. Then boom, shopping spree season 😅. I don’t quite agree with luxury skincare though. La Mer did didn’t work for me too, so did most Sephora luxury skincare brands. But what I actually do is I would rotate it from cheaper brands to expensive brands that work. Because investing in good skincare saves you a trip to the derma as well. For me Dior Skincare has been such a dream at the moment so I don’t mind spending on that. As for cars. I’m not keen on buying second hand. Sure brand new depreciation is real but second hand car quality is just not there. We have friends who swear by second hand cars and the amount of car trouble our friends have had is just not worth jt to me. Overall I think the tips are great and i think balance is key. You don’t always have to spend on every single thing but splurges once in a while can be good too 😂

I bet if you were to find out what the active ingredients are in the product you love, you would find that ingredient cheaper in its natural form. What you pay for in Dior is the name and packaging-plus fillers and preservatives.

It's personal but I never had fascination with famous logo bags, there are plenty of alternative designers who create pieces worth their price. I would also add to the list newest digital gadgets and trips to most visited destinations, one is redundant, the other one is exhausting and dangerous these days.

Hi! Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I always get something good out of your videos. I’d love to hear your suggestions on the process of reducing and curating a designers handbag collection. I’m trying to let go of a few bags and it’s been hard because I’ll loose some $ and I still like them but I know it is the right thing to do. These days I sell before I get a new bag to avoid a having too many bags and spend more than I should. Curious to know how you started reducing your handbag collection, what pushed you? What did you tell yourself? If you already have material about that please share the link. Thank you!

I still believe in buying a car new, but buy under your means and try to pay cash. I prefer to buy the least expensive/small but reliable new car and drive it to the ground. My family has owned used cars in the past, and have had back luck. It's no fun spending a lot of time in/out of the mechanics (if you can find a good one).

As far as the car: It’s 2024, nobody cares (or should care) what car you drive. I’m a car guy (actually I’m a mechanic) and I cannot even tell the difference between a Mercedes and a Toyota these days. They all look the same and have the same features, except one is twice the price. Where is the prestige anymore? There isn’t any. Any “luxury” car these days is pure Veblen good. At least a Louis Vuitton bag doesn’t depreciate to negative value after 10 years. Just saying.
