Presley Ryan, 16, went from understudy to leading lady Lydia Deetz of “Beetlejuice” on Broadway to being self-quarantined, all within two weeks. Before Broadway closed its doors, Presley spent the day going to school, dance class, physical therapy and the grocery before what was the last performance of “Beetlejuice” at the Winter Garden Theatre. Once the contract ends, the theatre can decide to allow the show to play for another year or make a contract with another show, in this case the Music Man, so Beetlejuice has to vacate. Either that, or the show doesn't make enough money to stay in the theatre/ on Broadway, but that isn't the case.

She may have not been the main, but she was definitely played Lydia many times before her debut. Although, most of the time she was an understudy. She wasn't the official girlscout or Lydia at the time, Dana was the main girlscout and Sophia was Lydia at the time. She didn't play mains a lot because she was young and still at school and Dana and Sophia were there most of the time so ewe....

I wanted to be in my school’s musical last year but I didn’t get a part so instead I worked backstage, and as fun working on a production is, it was stressful for me, the other crew members, and especially the actors. It was all commit, commit, commit and while that’s not a bad thing it took it’s toll over everyone. The drama teachers were so frustrated with us when something didn’t get done and some of my friends who were super nice got angry at me and others. The positives outweigh the negatives thankfully, but keep in mind theatre isn’t for everyone. It certainly isn’t for me, I’ll stick to working backstage

I'm going to be honest: I think Presley is a better Lydia than Sophia. I saw Beetlejuice about 10 months ago with the full original cast (no understudies) and have listened to the cast album religiously ever since. Even from just a few clips of Presley I've seen, I think she's just so much better. You can tell that Sophia was always straining her voice, especially with Dead Mom. Presley doesn't. Presley also seems so much nicer. I could kinda tell from Sophia's social media that she was starting to become a diva, especially with just taking days off from the show with no warning. Anyway, this is just my opinion, and I hope I didn't offend anyone.

It official announced today that it will not be reopening after quarantine, as the show was supposed to close June sixth and the shutdown moved to June seventh. However I HIGHLY recommend listening to the cast recording and even watching a bootleg. It's such a fantastic show

@@cupcakecutie1518 yeah I wasn't expecting tgere this many bootlegs on KZbin but the quarentine and Broadway shutting down brought a wave of them. Especially for Hamilton. But yeah enjoy the show, maybe listen to the album so you can hear it better.
