Just got my Mac mini M4 pro, chose the fastest cpu option 48gig of ram, 1TB storage and 10 gigabit network. Very pleased with it, just waiting for my thunderbolt 4 enclosure to arrive so I can setup as an external storage drive.

That must have cost a lot? I'm waiting for the Studios because once you upgrade the minis, they cost as much as the Studios and the Studios have better ports and cooling and much better GPU power.

same but I got the 40Gbps UGreen enclosure - now just £70 vs like £270 for any T5 enclosures today .. like Acacis with the Lexar 4Tb ssd I get a 4Tb external ssd for £300 - a £900 saving over the cost Apple charges for a 4Tb internal SSD

One thing I suspect the mini can’t do is expandability , anyone that buys a 7000 dollar machine will usually have a serious task in mind for it ,plus you get all the extra ports , and I’m guessing if you were doing super duper heavy loads day in and day out , I’m thinking thermally the big banger might be better ?

You need to start showing benchmarks for local LLM processing, AI Agent performance, and other AI related development tools. We aren’t all doing video editing and gaming. Just a thought.

@@MaxTechOfficial Start with some simple Tokens per second benchmarks with something like llama 3.2 running locally using ollama. You can try the 3B and 70B parameter models for comparison. Since Apple silicon has unified memory that the GPUs can use, the performance can be pretty good, even when compared to Nvidia.

A cool case, but the Zeera COMPLETELY ruined the aesthetic by needing to have the USB C cable loop back through like that! What were they thinking?! The SSD sits on top, so the case should have an internal channel cut out for a USB C *down angle* connector for the top port, and it would be almost invisible!

Agreed, but you may have trouble finding a really short Thunderbolt 4 or 5 cable that is angled the right way on both ends.

ad the heat dissipation? My external SSD runs quite hot. I had it on top of the Mini ... but not for long as the mini started to feel hot as well ! Cooling is an issue for sure.

Thanks Max! I'm in the 5% category, need a Mac Studio M4 Max to do my Unreal Engine work and Video edits.. the M4 Ultra might be a bit too expensive, but the M4 Max Mac Studio will be the sweet spot for power, cost and being pretty rock solid straight out of the box

I honestly don't think so. It just has a thermal pad connected to the side of the mac mini. The side will never get hot. Because the heatsink doesn't make contact with the side wall of the mac mini.

better is relative. If those computers are on/by my desk I would prefer the Mac Pro because I wouldn't need external drives. If I put them in a rack then that doesn't matter as much. However I would say people should buy either the base model Mac Mini, or wait for the M4 Mac Studio/Mac Pro

I have a Mac Studio, and it’s a nightmare with all the drives and hubs I have to plug into it. I wish I could afford a Mac Pro. Life was better when I had a tower. I wish Apple started the Mac Pro at $3,000 instead.

I think your last point about 95% of people will likely be served with a Mini M4Pro over the Mac Pro is right on! Sure an M4 STUDIO Ultra down the road, will be crazy fast. But even then, when (example) you can work with proxies or in Resolve playback at half resolution if needed, what percentage of even video editors would need more than a Mini M4Pro for every day work. Instead invest in a NEW TB 5 RAID with lots of room for ProRes Proxies -- again if needed.

Not too sure of the value in this comparison. New gear, with the best of the new internals would be expected to perform better than something 5 years older - especially with computer tech. The Mini gets quite hot ( I've the M4 Pro) and as mentioned , you're generally using an external ssd because of cost consideration. A computer like the Mac Pro is in an air-cooled case, has practically unlimited resources and is definitely upgradeable - you cn add components. Yes, WAS expensive, but ;ool at it this way, it will let 20 years. Is that too much when you wonder how long the min will last. My mini replaced my 2017 iMac .. 7 years ! When I bought it, it was a lot... but over time, well worth it.

I recently picked up a 12c version and opted for 48 GB Ram (running windows in parallels), its killa performance given the SFF. Im really impressed. Only annoying thing is the screen resolution issues on my monitor, where as windows was fine - I don't need 20000000000 PPI darn you apple. Gaming is good enough for me. Anyway pretty happy with it overall.

I bought the Mac mini M4 Pro 64 gb, and I'm about to return it (not worth the $2500 I paid for). A lot of my main tasks are done at around the same speed as my MBP M1 Max 32 gb. Encoding videos is also slower than my MBP by 20%. Graphic performance is not what I was expecting, now that being said exporting and importing on Lightroom is about 40 / 60 % faster. I went with the 64 GB because I'm gaming and running Parallels, but while the boot-up time of the game (Cities: Skylines II) is 50% faster, the gaming experience is still not smooth, and too similar to my MBP. ((I always manually max out the fan to make sure I get the best performance)) Ideally I would have bought a studio m4 max, but that's not out yet. Maybe I'll go for the MBP M4 Max ...

Yes M1 Max has dual encoders while M4 still has a single encoder, albeit a bit faster than M1/M2/M3. M1 Max also has a 32-core GPU while M4 Pro still only has 20 GPU cores. Metal Graphics score is almost identical on both. So if you wanted gaming and video editing you needed to get M4 Max. We say this all the time as recommendations.

As a recent buyer of my Dream Computer, a Mac Pro 2019, I still love and falling in love with how nice the 2019s were for their time and for me, a common man, today. I came close to buying an M4 Mini Pro though as sure, it should and does blow the older 2019 away, but something about older computers just make my emotions run and I fall in love with these older Apples.
