The Indian Army has faced allegations of discrimination in the past, including:
Promotion of women officers
In 2021, the Supreme Court struck down discriminatory yardsticks that denied women permanent commission. Before this ruling, women officers had to retire after 14 years of service, while male officers could apply for permanent commission. However, some women officers have alleged that they are still facing discrimination in promotion:
Some say that women officers have not been promoted since 2020.
Some say that male junior officers are given command of units, while women officers are given command of companies, which are normally managed by officers below them in rank.
