That is a "Yale Travel lock". The flat bar hooks inside the door latch area inside the door frame, the lock body rests tightly against the closed door. Its handy to use in hotel rooms if you don't want to be disturbed. This one seems to. E a old design; one that I have has a more streamlined lock body style, They do have a very similar appearance and function to the sliding glass panel showcase locks.
@John-lx8iu5 жыл бұрын
It could actually be used for a door. The little bent steel end goes into the door jam where the door latch would normally fit and then you shut the door and slide the brass body in place. Not really sure of the use-case there but could be done lol

Display case locks I remember had teeth cut on each side. This is similar. Those old ones could be opened with a bent paper clip and small jack knife. Every once and a while the keys were accidentally locked in the case. The lock had a spring loaded ratcheting mechanism. This one is more of a challenge then the old style. Slamming a heavy object on top opened the cases also. This happened several times.
@magiclocks92065 жыл бұрын
I don't think this is for a display case. The thumb tab on it would break the glass. I believe the hook goes into a striker plate on a door frame, the door is closed and then the lock is slid on. These were often used in motels to insure that no one could open the door from the outside even with a key.
@georgelewis91275 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's for a glass door. I think it's made to lock a closet door that opens outward by placing the hook into the striker plate, closing the door on it, and sliding the lock onto the plate. It could be to keep kids or guest from getting into a closet.
@AThreeDogNight5 жыл бұрын

Not to take away from his lock picking skill because he is clearly skilled. But one couldn’t even pick that lock with that method because the free end of his tensioner would be hitting the glass case. Yale definitely made a good lock here, and Bill is certainly and impressive picker

Hi Bill I have seen these locks used on the old wooden draw filling cabinets, the plate slides under the draw so that the hook pulls against the draw frame then you slide the lock on in front of the draw blocking the draw. the various cut outs are to accommodate different width frames... "As far as I can remember I THINK there was a small part cut out on the underneath of the draw to accommodate the bar". Paul UK

2 things. 1. Could you please mill open a Master 140? I'm having trouble and would like to see the kind of pins it might have. 2. Is it possible for a lock to be so badly machined that it's MORE difficult to pick? I've got a couple of big locks of Legion brand, which I've never heard of. It looks like crap and it's incredibly "crunchy".
@fredhenry1015 жыл бұрын
As for question 2, yes, LPL has done a video or two on this exact concept. I recommend some lock lube, several of the locks in my (tiny) collection were a pain to open at first, but after spraying a bit of dry lube in there they pop open like butter. I know Bill uses WD40 to loosen some of those up, and although it's not technically a lubricant it can help a lot.

I think it would be a good idea to include a link to LockPickingLebowski's KZbin channel in the description of the videos about the locks you received from them. Likewise for other KZbinrs. I realized that LockPickingLebowski's had a channel completely by coincidence. I just assumed that since you did not include any link about them, they did not have a channel or anything.
