In this vlog discover Luxor in Egypt with me
We will walk the streets of the city, its markets and souks as well as more authentic neighborhoods without tourists and see the Nile up close.
With its 1 million 300 thousand inhabitants, it is one of the most important cities in Egypt.
It was formerly called Thebes by the Greeks and Waset by the Egyptians, it was then the capital of the new Egyptian empire.
It is therefore at the heart of countless archaeological sites which attract thousands of tourists per year.
The city of Luxor is said to be the largest open-air museum in the world and the Arabs named it the Palace of a Thousand Doors.
Imagine that Luxor is the longest inhabited place on the planet.
This city is not easy, there is a lot of traffic with horns constantly honking
There is no real central point other than the train station which is rather in the center of the city.
There are several places to go:
Route 1:
When you leave the station, you can go to the left and take the big shopping street: "Al Mansheya Street"
Then turn onto the street "Television Street" and then take on the right, a little further, the street: "Al Madina Al Mnoura Street" which is a lively street with many street vendors.
The view of the mosque's minaret in the distance is superb (Al Iman Mosque)
Route 2:
You can also take, opposite the station, Saad Zaghloul Street (the name in Google Maps is different: "Al Mahata Street") which is lined with shops and restaurants, you will arrive in less than 6 minutes on a huge tiled square with trees surrounded by grid.
Children play balls there, ride scooters, roller skate or drive small electric cars that can be rented on site, while their parents lie on the grass.
There are cake and cotton candy sellers wandering around
There is a great atmosphere
I advise you to go there at sunset, it’s even more beautiful.
This square is called "Luxor Temple Square", it runs alongside the Luxor temple and is in front of the Abu Al Haggag Mosque
Route 3:
Then, still leaving the station, I advise you to take on the right (when you come out) follow the railway line until the level crossing and once crossed, 3 minutes on foot, there is a huge market in a large hall.
(on a map, it is indicated as the souks and on Google Maps, it is noted "Luxor Fruit and Vegetable Market")
There is an incredible atmosphere, it is rich in smells and colors.
Return to the level crossing and continue opposite by taking the street "Moustafa Kamel Street" (the name in Google Maps is different: "Al Saha Street") at a certain point cars are no longer allowed to pass, I I don't know why, but it's so much the better, it's good for the ears
