02:52 "I dont think we need a manual" 02:59 "I printed out the manual" Love it, I've been there many times!

I got a free Fluke 6.5 digit bench multimeter in return for fixing 4 others. It was generally not that hard, although there was one with a dead transformer that I had to tear open the layer of insulation on the transformer to replace the transformer's thermal fuse. I was fortunate in the fact that all of the meters came from the US AF repair depot, and at least one of the techs wasn't competent. As an example, they replaced an IC, ( I could tell by all of the solder flux they left on it.) But they installed it backwards. I desoldered it, turned it around, cleaned it up, and ran a 24 hour burn-in on the meter and the obviously stressed part, and the meter worked fine. Easy repair.

I almost got an 8300A once- the first 5.5-digit voltmeter if I'm not mistaken. I ended up getting parts of it instead since the guy scrapped it.

I find with these meters if the DC voltage calibration is correct, the ohms and current will also be correct.

@5:13 perhaps 1.888 not only checks the segments but also can be read upside down with ease.

...and now try calibrating it once again to see if it was not a Fluke!

When I was an EE major, the junior and senior labs at my school had 8050s on the benches.

I still have a 8050a on my bench. My brother has a 8010 on his. Working fine after all these years.

There are projects to replace the lcd for a led one for the 8050s in case you need to fix the screens

Why is it I never get the bad fuse or easy to change output transistors. I have an old Current Source and everything "easy" caps, power supplies, output and driver transistors, reference are all good. Every time I dig in I get to reverse engineer the dam thing :)

I got an 8050 for free and accidentally broke the ceramic RMS converter board while fixing the power supply 😖 now I cant justify buying a donor unit off of ebay so I guess no AC measurement for me

i remember these style meters...always with the switches, ultra reliable otherwise. tbh i was more interested in what you had in that glass 😂

I have a question, how to decode complex electronic circuits, like something, which has a lot of parts in it, I have tried it but I can't usually figure out, how the stuff works?
Wow - I like that Dekabox with the dials. That looks interesting - is it variable, or the usual discrete switches?

discrete

The DekaBox you have there. Is that still obtainable?

I see them on eBay

It did'nt need much calibration. 👍

Well, It's still a shame about the LED model, personally I like them much better than the LCD versions, something like that in "nice" condition on my work table, yes that would be something. These models in particular are already a bit rare, at least here in Europe, while the LCD models can occasionally be found ...

I’d like to buy an 8050.
