Hi Jose. Thanks for doing this. I find that I cannot memorise so all my learning is contextual and after over 2 years of learning Russian I am now understanding cases and actually analysing sentences to identify the case and therefore what ending is needed. It’s no good for me memorising endings…. So this is excellent for me and a real supplement to Nastyas presentation. Thank you 🙏🏻

This is/was much needed. Common usage is more important than just learning all the rules. As a teacher of English to children and understanding how the English language develops, I am really starting to see "flaws" in how Russian is taught to foreigners.

Russian Cases for A1 Level students | Finally learn how to use Russian cases Transcript Well there are a lot of videos here on KZbin with explanation of Russian Cases, but I don’t want to not repeat what was already said. I will try to explain it in another way. I will speak about most common situations in which you have to use a certain case, so you know exactly when and which case to use. Today we are going to talk only about very common everyday situations . Now let's begin. Each case has its own specific endings. for example let's take the word : Dog. Собака Sobaka Right now this word is in nominative case; this is how it looks like when you look it up in a dictionary. the ending is this ending will be changed in a sentence according to a specific case: Собаку- y Собаке- e Собаки- и GENITIVE CASE Let's start with a Genitive Case . Situation number 1: Where are you from? Let's start with feminine and take a feminine noun “Italy” Италия Italiya This is a feminine noun in nominative case. Ending will be changed to a И И in genitive case. I am from Italy Я из Италии YA iz Italii Masculine noun “Minsk”{ Минск} [a city in Belarus] In genitive masculine you have to add “a” I am from Minsk. “Я из минска” YA iz minska Let's continue with neuter name Осло {Oslo - capital city of Norway.=столица Норвегии stolitsa Norvegii.} Here the ending will remain the same because in genitive neutered city names does not change their endings. For a neuter city names does not change their endings . I am from Oslo Я из Осло. YA iz Oslo. Nominative Case Genitive Case Endings Италия {f} Италии {f} -ии Минск {m} Минскa -a Осло {neuter} Осло --- Одеяло{n} {blanket} Odeyalo Одеяла Odeyala -a Бананы{plural-bananas} Banany Бананов Bananov -ов **Neuter nouns don’t change endings in Genitive case. Situation number 2: Is about not having something . If you don't have something , and you want to say it you will use the genitive case . -I don't have a blanket. У меня нет одеяла. U menya net odeyala. -I don't have bananas. У меня нет бананов. U menya net bananov. -I don't have a dog. У меня нет собаки. U menya net sobaki. -I don't have a job. У меня нет работы. U menya net raboty. -I don't have a cat. У меня нет кота. U menya net kota. -I don't have a female cat. У меня нет кошки. U menya net koshki.

I advise you to treat cases as a melody of speech, which appears in ancient times and is related to the way slavs feel the nature of things . All Slavs have cases. and they need to be felt, deep, this is the most important thing, to feel why they are used. and then you'll study them very easily

It’s a great video for intermediate students. However, I think it’s a mistake for level A students to even venture into grammar when they require lots of input towards reading, spelling and increasing vocabulary. Students trying to learn all the cases at level A is a fast way for students to quit learning Russian.

Russian with Nastya no, do they have grammar in them? I have seen some courses online with grammar but most never have sections to practice which makes it nearly impossible to acquire. Please share your views and correct me if you think I am wrong. The problem with grammar is the beginners will stop themselves from speaking simply because they want to get the sentence structure correctly and will always think about grammar rules when speaking. This only creates more frustration when they can’t even create one sentence to express an idea due to lack of vocabulary and pronunciation.

@@Russianlanguage That is a good idea. It was something that I was taught in the introduciton to verbs and the accusative case. Our teacher spent half of that lesson going throught the grammar and the next half having us practice sentences with accusative phrases but I suppose things must be different on KZbin than in a classroom where you can interact in real time with students on a one to one basis. It must be very difficult for you to gauge exactly how well everyone understands the concepts you are introducing. Keep up the good work!
