Lee I know you with Wolfgang, backed up Zeppelin at Winterland back in 1969…and I don’t if you’re a Zeppelin fan but…it is Bonzo’s birthday today. I think we should all give a nod to the late great departed drum giant. He really was one of a kind!

That’s exactly what I was saying about Lari on the group yesterday and precisely why I compared her to Michael Thompson, Wayne Krantz, and Steve Morse, even though she sounds nothing like the latter (I somehow failed to mention Daryl). All four of the above are such amazing composers. That matters more than anything else.

Hi Lee. So glad you talked about Dangerous Dan Dugmore. Being that John Stewart was my muse (saw him a dozen times, met him 3 times) I have seen Dan play a ton. Also with Lovely Linda's band. Seems like he is almost forgotten these days, except by other musicians. So I really appreciate you talking about him. Amazing multi-instrumentist but magical on that pedal steel. All the best to you, Maureen and the boys.

I loved Rick Marotta’s story about how Don would be the only one who was totally serious onstage with Yoko Ono, while everyone else was doubled over laughing. This was such a fun listen. Loved that late-80s lineup. Carlos was a one-off, a miracle of a player.

1:47 If anyone needs to know, the Ace Hotel and Swim Club in Palm Springs, Ca. is at 701 E. Palm Canyon Drive. 11:44 Leland mentioned drummer Carlos Vega. My friend, saxman Steve Tavaglione, had a jazz fusion band named Caldera. Their debut album "Caldera" came out in 1976 and the great drummer Carlos Vega played drums and percussion on the album. You can hear the full album and Carlos' marvelous drumming on KZbin. Unfortunately, we lost Carlos in 1998.

Interesting how long hair here was almost necessary to gain recognition in music in the later 60s. Australia was searching for its identity musically whist international music was influential in styling what we listened to. James Taylor is always great to listen no matter what. Cheers to everyone and thank you Lee for painting a masterpiece.👍☮️

Thank you for all your videos which, if I remember, were started to help get us through the pandemic. Well, you've done that and much more, so I thank you. Me, as a guitar player have admired Jay Graydon ever since I bought Manhattan Transfers Extensions LP. So I'm listening to some of the political crap today, and I thought to myself "Nothin You Can Do About It" off the Extensions LP. I found a 1994 live performance with Jay playing and singing, and low and behold who's the bassist???? Leland Sklar! You have such an incredible career, and you'll just show up everywhere! Thank you for all you've done and said here on your channel. (Greg - from Milwaukee)

Thank you, I really liked ‘Angry Blues’ with chorus singers. ‘The Twist’ is like a time-bomb and whether it be Lyle Lovett or James Taylor the song has been wedged into many of our psyches of well being like dynamite and will go boom when touched and heard. My high school was so conservative they tried to ban ‘The Twist’ in both dance and song. It was a battle we won. ☮
@steven_scattergood4 ай бұрын
Strangely they banned Bill Haley and His Comets here so our music was fairly mundane until ‘Rock n Rock became rebellious. Not only did the music change but hairstyles became almost a way of life. The soundtrack of our lives changed forever.✌️👍
@artemisXsidecross4 ай бұрын
@@steven_scattergood “Rock Around the Clock” by Bill Haley and His Comets was blocked because of it being in the film ‘Blackboard Jungle’ in 1955. I remember we were not allowed to wear ‘bluejeans’ in school at the time and the film itself was banned in Memphis Tennessee. Music will never be controlled; it will always find its freeedom in the people who will find it and listen. ☮

Its interesting how having long hair for boys, or men, outside of being a popular musician, was not entirely favoured in the 1960s, but in the 1970s, that changed. This was a great live set with James Taylor. I wish Maureen all the best. Cheers, Leland! 🙏✌️
