I remember watching an episode of this with my grandma during the early 1970's. In that episode, the wives were asked what was the length of their husband's inseam . Three of the wives said numbers like 32",28" or 36". The fourth wife said 6 inches...it took a few moments to get the audience to settle down when she finally realized what she had done. She was mortified, but that was nothing compared to her husband's realization that the world now knows what he has to work with...it was so funny that it made an indelible impression on me. Miss the good times with my grandmother.

This aired the year before I was born, but I really enjoyed this. It really is like looking in a time capsule and I love the fact the original commercials are included. Also, I'm guessing Sugar Frosted Corn Bursts didn't last long or was discontinued by the time I was eating cereal in the early 70's.

Wow! Watching this with the original commercials really is like watching a time capsule. I would have been five years old when this aired, and there is a very good chance I might have been watching. The fact that it's in black and white? Well, I'm sure it was broadcast in color, but pretty much everyone was watching on black and white TVs in those days, so that's pretty real, too. I do hope this kinescope gets transferred properly -- it really is a treat to watch.
@jimliftin15526 жыл бұрын
Erik Smith, I'm very glad you enjoyed it and yes I do plan on transferring it properly, intact as you see it here. Most kinescopes were filmed in black and white for 2 reasons: color was more expensive to film and at this time in history, color TV sets were more expensive than their black & white counterparts, so those who owned color TV sets were the envy of family and friends.

This is what I miss from the network version of the Newlywed Game. Johnny Jacob's zany comments on the couples before introducing their names and how long they've been married and the short blocks displaying portraits of participating couples kissing, mingling, and having a good time while instrumental background music is playing (i.e. "Pretty Ballerina" by the Left Banke for example). The well known syndicated version that GSN has aired numerous times doesn't feature those segments.

On “The Newlywed Game”, in the ABC daytime / primetime, if some or most of the episodes were destroyed from ABC, they could restore all the episodes of this program by the television time machine.

Chuck Barris has been notorious for hoarding the master copies in his possession once he found out what happened to the Family Game. Although the Dating Game was carefully preserved with at least 100 aired on GSN, the Newlywed Game was stored in a closet which made it difficult to preserve in any case which explains the subpar condition, discoloration, and breaking at times.

"Love Is Blue" took me right back there... One of my favorites. Grade 1 1967-1968 The composer's name... Paul Murriat? Very bad time in someways. I remember the assassinations and the rioting in Los Angeles, and the draft, and those horrific images from the correspondents in Saigon on television every night. And Greenpan's spooky slow motion film clips of the gender bending Soviet track athlete at the Mexico City Games. We also lived only two miles or so from the Ambassador Hotel...

There was a nighttime version of the Newlywed Game. it aired on Saturday nights before Lawrence Welk. Also, the Dating Game started a year before the Newlywed Game, so it would not have been a new show. The Newlywed game started in 1966, so this was not the first season. The set and format were also a little bit different in the first season. Here is a link to a first season episode: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gHnToK2AidF3hqM
