See my response above. Small correction, he lived at Vered HaGalil, an American Western style dude ranch (privately owned, not a kibbutz), at that time, that has since expanded.

I lived with his dad, Karl, while I was a horseback tour guide in Israel at Vered HaGalil in the 1980's. His dad lived modestly. One day while he and I were hanging out smoking our pipes, sipping brandy, and discussing The Hobbit, I asked him why everyone called him Prince Karl, thinking it was a nickname. He told me he was really a prince. I laughed thinking he was joking. Karl then invited me to go with him to Germany for a family event. He said money wasn't a problem and his family had castles and estates scattered around Europe. I didn't go; I didn't want to be an imposition, plus, I had the horses to care for. Unfortunately, Karl passed a few years later. I'll remember him as an artistic humble generous friend.

The English Monarchy did not die with the death of Elizabeth 1. It continued until the Act of Union in 1707. England and Scotland shared the same monarchs but each was the monarch of the respective countries. Hence James 1 of England was titled James VI in Scotland. Only after the Act of Union 1707 did the monarch of both countries become known as the King/Queen of the United Kingdom.

A lot of nobility are rich in honorific titles and even inherited properties but not necessarily in cash and liquid assets.
@RaymondHng4 жыл бұрын
German nobility titles were abolished during the German Revolution of 1918-1919. Today, German nobility is no longer conferred by the Federal Republic of Germany (1949- ), and constitutionally the descendants of German noble families do not enjoy legal privileges. The Prince of Leingingen is a title that is held in pretence only. Hermann's father, Karl, was not the first-born son of the 6th Prince of Leiningen. The title was succeeded by Karl's older brother, Emich Kirii. The current pretender to the title is Hermann's cousin, Andreas.
@4nt4r4y4 жыл бұрын
@@RaymondHng what is a pretender to the title?
@RaymondHng4 жыл бұрын
@@4nt4r4y A pretender is one who maintains or is able to maintain a claim that they are entitled to a position of honor or rank, which may be occupied by an incumbent (usually more recognized), or whose powers may currently be exercised by another person or authority. Most often, it refers to a former monarch, or descendant thereof, whose throne is occupied, claimed by a rival or has been abolished. In layman's terms, a pretender would be the holder of the title if the abolished monarchy or nobility were to be restored. For example, Constantine II was the last king of the Greek monarchy before it was abolished. Since the Greek monarchy no longer exists, he is now the pretender to the Greek throne. His oldest son who is the heir apparent will be the next pretender of the Greek monarchy after his death.

I am connected to Prince Hermann as well. My immigrant ancestress Diana Skipwith Dale escaped to America after 1650 with her brother Sir Grey Skipwith, 3rd bt. and settled. Her great grandmother, Jane Hall Skipwith, was descended from King Edward I and Earls of Arundel. Lady Jane Hall Skipwith's father Francis Hall, son of Francis Hall and Elizabeth Wingfield, had a sister Alice Hall who married Sir Henry Sutton. Their great granddaughter Susan Sutton married William Oglethorpe and their grandson Sir Theophilus Oglethorpe is where the interesting things happen. Theophilus had four children but the youngest two were of interest. One was James Oglethorpe who founded the Georgia colony in America. Theophilus' daughter Eleanor Oglethorpe married a French marquis Eugene Marie de Bethisy. Their granddaughter Louise de Rohan married Louis III de Lorraine, Prince de Brionne and had a daughter Princesse Josefa de Lorraine-Brionne who became the wife of Vittorio Amadeo II, Duke de Carignan. They became the grandparents of Carlo Alberto I, King of Sardinia who died in 1849. His great grandson was Victor Emmanuel III, King of Italy, died 1943 whose daughter Princess Giovanna of Savoy married Boris III, King of Bulgaria and were the parents of Princess Marie Louise of Bulgaria, Prince Hermann's mother! Relationships like this are not all that uncommon in the United States, but most people don't know they have at least one or two royal immigrant ancestors like mine.

@steveriggan89449 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your query on this. Our family is well documented in American and British records by wills, marriage, death and land records both sides of the Atlantic. The Italian royal family is also well documented in all their lines including the one going back through the House of Rohan in France to the Mezieres family on to the Oglethorpe, Sutton and Hall family from which I descend. Prince Hermann's ancestress Alice Hall Sutton (sister of my ancestor Francis Hall of Grantham, Lincolnshire) was also ancestral to Princess Diana and the Dukes of Richmond. Edmund Hall of Gretford, Lincolnshire, was another brother and was also ancestral to Princess Diana, the Earls of Carnarvon and Prime Ministers Winston Churchill and David Cameron. Francis Hall, in addition to my own family, was ancestor to Prince Rainier of Monaco through the Dukes of Hamilton and Brandon (Rainier's great grandmother was English). We were fortunate to have records to back up our research and prove the lineage from my grandmother back.

As for Canada, the latest polling results i encountered show only 14% of Canadians feel any sort of attachment to the monarchy! If that figure seems low, take into consideration that having "attachment to the monarchy" does NOT mean the same as "recognize them as our monarchs". In over 40 years I have never heard a single Canadian refer to Elizabeth2 as the Queen of Canada! Don't get me wrong here, she has always been held in highest regard and VERY respected, but the concept of a monarch is just tradition, and their royal title nothing more than honourary. I am actually shocked that they put his image on our $1 coin or "loonie" which should now be renamed "Dopey", for the "looking bastard" Canadians will be forced to look at!

The Furst is a prince on par with our British princes, whilst the Prinzs and Prinzessins are members of the princely family with a status below our Princes, hence HSH not HRH.

So Queen Victoria, for example, may only have recognised the Furst as a true Prince, and not all the Prinzs, of which Hermann is one. Then again the Leiningens were her half-sister Feodora's family even before one of them married a descendant of Victoria's so she may have reserved the right to bend the rules regarding their status.

Queen Victoria also had an older maternal half-brother named Prince Carl Zu Leiningen who was the younger brother of Princess Feodora Zu Leiningen!

Actually it is not that uncommon this day in age to have royals as ancestors. The Plantagenets who ruled England and held many titles in France have millions of living descendants, two members of the family in particular are common ancestors, King Henry II of England who was the first Plantagenet King, he had 10 children with his wife, Eleanor of Aquitaine but also had several more with mistresses. The second is King Edward III who had 9 children. Some of king Edward III descendants you may have heard of include Valerie Burtinelli, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ioan Grufford, John Lennon, Ralph and Joseph Fiennes to name a few. Also every royal house of England since Edward and the majority of the royal houses of Europe are descended from him and Henry as well. In fact the estimate is that at 6 out of every 10 people from Great Britain, The United States, Canada, Australia and European countries are Plantagenet descendants. if you have European ancestry, search your family tree. you just might fight some Plantagenet dna lurking in the gene pool.

This report starts so badly, "the city's his kingdom"...really? so he's the King of Toronto? erm nope. He was wearing a princely shirt to mow the lawn. oh really? so all his neighbours mow the lawn wearing rags? "Your neighbour's a prince". .."What a royal one?!", as if they might've meant the popstar or someone with the surname Prince or something. Once you see passed the weird reporting the facts do seem to be true though.

King of England! If this is a Canadian program then they should know better. There is no such title and hasn't been for a couple of hundred years.

Prince....principalities.

No. Being a prince is not just being related to statues or descended from kings and queens. Most people are. When you bear a title it means that you have the responsibility of the House: its honor and continuation.

"Prince" can mean several things. It can be a noble title, often given to children of monarchs, but not always. There were princes also who did not descend from kings, but who ruled a vassal principality on behalf of a king. Sometimes vassal principalities later became independent. Monaco and Liechtenstein for instance. The prince of Wales is still a vassal, however. The word can further be used, as a translation of "Fürst," for any independent nobleman who lost his (/without a) liege lord. In that last sense you could call the Grand-duke of Luxembourg a "prince." By the same token some kings and queens used to call themselves "princes" sometimes (Elisabeth I for instance), to stress their independence from any emperor. But Germany is a republic, so there are no German princes at all. No royal princes and no noble princes. And independent princes are independent, so they are not German. They have their own countries.

Many people in the U.S. have a touch of Royal ancestry, or more. than a touch. I am supposedly descended from Mary Boleyn ,the sister of Anne. She was a mistress of Henry VIII before Anne returned from France. She had a husband,but the rule was if you were mistress of the king,there was NO physical intimacy with hubby. So during this time she had a son and a daughter. Hubby was dutiful to the king and rewarded with lands and titles,so the son, Henry was thought at the time to be a Royal bastard, so I MAY be descended from the nasty old King Henry. Nothing to be proud of there. BUT MANY Americans have connections to royalty to nobility,usually more than one. We are all related to each other in the end. Titles or fame are just fun things to think about . It is also fun to consider Collateral kinfolks. Descendants of one of your ancestors through another line.You can end up related to presidents, general's wives, or Jesse James. So RELAX and have fun with it.
