Hi Ian, glad you enjoyed your burfday present. As for loosing the chance to concrete one of the yards, it would still be a good idea to concrete the triangle outside the top gate. This will divert water to the drain and not have it running through the shed helping to keep it dry, if you use timber shutter leave it in to protect the edge while it's green when feeding.

I think the principal of not running through cattle applies to most any animal you would find in fields or woods. Dogs do the same especially if they don’t know you.

Don't panic Ian when that drys out it will go as hard as concrete. We laid a drive back in 2017 when I was rolling it was like a sponge after 3 months of dry weather we put a 60ton train and it's lorry over it without even leaving tread marks.

Road plaining would not be a bad thing to get to level up for this winter. Sometimes, they can be difficult to get, but someone you know who runs tippers out of the quarries around you would probably know if there are some. You have to relevel the yard for concreting next year anyway, so as long as the water is kept out and a surface that can take a bit of abuse this winter, it's fine.

Personally I prefer rubble and top with lime let water go and stays dry keep weather from driving in lot cheaper than concrete I would only concrete outside yards
