Clever guy. He made that bottom a bit smaller, left the sides unwelded and a bit flaring out, so it would always fit and adjust to the hole. Weld it up and it's perfect every time. Apparently not his first time.

In woodworking we call it a dry fit put it together then take it apart making sure it's proper before gluing. It can save a lot of hassle. Excellent job thank you for sharing.👍

For those playing at home, an air arc gouger uses a carbon rod and compressed air to "unweld", like a reverse stick welder. In skilled hands (our esteemed hero here, for example) they are surprisingly accurate. Super loud tho. Hearing pro a must.

The quality of the filming and editing is equal to the quality of the fabrication work. It makes my old back hurt to watch the contortions involved in welding. It must be physically exhausting. Thanks for such great videos.

Your Franna Crane is going to be much better than the original. I used to work as a CNC-Operator at Sandvik Raiseboring Sweden. We sold a lot of mining equipment to Australia. Raiseboring by the way is when you drill a hole (pilothole) up to 1000meters down and then pull a disc up to make a larger hole. I was making parts of the drillingmecanism. The smallest was about 2meters to 7meters in diameter.

FYI, the Galvanizers Association of Australia have a publication on their website that describes best practices for designing components that will be hot-dip galvanized. e.g thin sheet warps like crazy and drainage paths for the pickling acid and molten zinc have to be carefully considered.
