I loved going through all these tracks i havent heard in years like freddy fish and diddy kong racing and songs i've never heard before like the lsd dream emulator track and roll away. Here's some of my personal favorites i'd recommend for that dreamy, aesthetic vibe. Zora Cape - Ocarina of Time Sky and Sea - Mario Sunshine You've come far, Ness - Earthbound Rainbow Resort - Kirby's Adventure Shooting Star Summit - Paper Mario 64 The Great Boggly Tree - Paper Mario Thousand Year Door Garage - Fzero GX Bubbly Washing Machine - Super Monkey Ball 2 Law's Theme - Tekken 2 Tidal Tempest - Sonic CD JP Summer Forest - Spyro 2 Observatory - Majora's Mask

Jazz Jackrabbit 2 OST (PC) Birdman - Pilotwings (N64) Keep up with the awesome coverage! ^_^

That specific era of Lego, 1996-2000 I would say, has an otherworldly quality to it. Back when its old motto was on every box, "Just Imagine..." and some sets had a blue sky background on the box... Ok I’ve deleted 2 comments just because it’s so hard for me to choose which game has the most aesthetic song. After awhile, I figured it out. The OST for the Sonic Mega Collection (I think that’s what it’s called) for the PS2 gives me hella nostalgia everytime I hear it. It’s synth ambience brings me back to a time where I used to go to my grandma’s daycare. She had a ps2 upstairs set up just for me with that game. Seriously, the 2 or 3 songs they made just for the menus of that game are high key some of the best music in gaming.

the entire Rush 2 extreme racing USA soundtrack (even though it's more outrun than vaporwave). the music is a perfect representation of an old 90's racing game that wants to hype the player by giving you this feeling that wants to make you go as fast as you can possibly go. plus I loved the maps, they were colorful and used allot of neon lights (especially that map where you can do allot of stunts)

and I think soundtracks from Amiga and Atari ST games could be made into real vaporwave goodness. 16-bit sounds are underrated comparing with 8-bit ones, since we've already have chiptunes nearly all about 8-bit. europeans should have their own nostalgia about these (but I'm Asian xD) anyway, home computers like those are huge back then. and even sounds from Sinclair ZX Spectrum and Amstrad CPC also could be done so.

Mario Paint - "Mysterious" International Track & Field 2000 (PS1) - "Results" (seriously, this one is fantastic) Einhänder - "Earthlight" Art of Balance - "Title Screen" Digimon World - "File City (Night)" Namco Museum Vol. 1 - "Museum" Honestly a lot of tracks from the Japan-only Mario Artist games.

Stickerbrush Symphony in DKC2 is also amazing. Video game music really deserves its due with music nerds cause it had so much inspiration in Vaporwave and Hip-Hop. A few recommendations that I don’t think others have mentioned: -Anodyne 1&2 (and other Analgesic Production games): Definitely some aesthetic driven games to a degree, but just very unique, strange games. The music is a mix of ambient music and slightly more melodic and upbeat songs. Hard to describe, but both lovely soundtracks. -Super Monkey Ball Series has some super nice tunes -Ecco: Defender of the Future (the other ecco games too - like, c’mon, it’s too on the nose) -Spyro 2&3 have some really catchy tunes. -Gimmick/Mr. Gimmick for the NES (absolutely amazing NES soundtrack, with the beach theme especially fitting the bill for vaporwave aesthetics) -Kirby’s Return to Dreamland- Aurora Area -Since Vaporwave artists love weird old games, MOON: Remix RPG Adventure has great music of many genres.

as a brazilian, i find that english words, specially in games, hold the same type of exoticism that americans/europeans have for japanese texts, because even though ive played countless hours of games on PS1/SNES/PS2, I, and nearly everyone that wasnt wealthy enough for english classes did not speak a single word of english, and many games came here as kind of "illegal" goods, since it was absolutely impossible to find original games, so there were absolutely no games in portuguese, only in english and japanese. the wii shop for instance is a song that makes me feel like a child on a foreign frontstore window, not being able to access stores outside my country because of region locking, and having to "hack" it to access and not having an international credit cards to buy anything, or even understanding any of the texts there. youtube and internet changed the game for me :)

Here's a little obscure gem for all of you Playstation lovers out there: Listen to Sirus Village from the game Jade Cocoon. Then come back and tell me if it isn't that pure synth drum kit that 90's games loved to use. Gives you that feel of settling somewhere in a polygon forest, just resting there with the slightly symmetrical hexagonal trees and water that looks like it's painted on. All with that text box of an anime portrait of a main character every time you talk to them. Pure gold. Cousin and I would play this game for a long time. Wish games used its very unique catch-and-raise system to not only grow your monsters, but you can fuse them into completely different creatures. Hopefully one of us will make that game. Got another one for a more tense or unsettling bit of vaporwave: Sector 6 ARC from Metroid Fusion. A rarely-talked about game in Metroid because it came at the same time as the beloved Metroid Prime, Metroid Fusion is the successor to Super Metroid that told a narrative of personal survival for Samus. Not to mention the absolute terror in the game being stalked by a foe that you cannot fight, and who has YOUR powers from Super Metroid. It's a very clever way of making you feel truly alone in a space station gone to hell. At least there's peace within the arctic research area, right? Nope, you're in this frozen ice containment with all sorts of enemies as you can't even enter the area without taking damage before getting a power up first. Doesn't make it any less easy though. You still have to contend with said stalking enemy, and you need to navigate the frozen area with this sense of something is hiding in here in this sparkling dream of yours. It's as if a nightmare is just right around the corner...
