I’ve always found signalwave to be comforting. I found it during a complicated time in life and it has the comfort of having a tv on in the background without having to pay too much attention to it

Nice to stumble across a fellow appreciator of this masterpiece. I think the thing that initially struck me and continues to unfurl with every listen is the idea that no technique is illegal. The textures are plastic, metal, foam, nature, crayola... but the whole composition becomes a frankenstein's monster. A sentient and relateable character. The previous LP, 'Moustache (Half a Scissor)' has an incredible amount of butterfly stomach moments, but this one is the album I return to most frequently. Impossible to ignore in any background situation; I have to go to the amp and crank it. An album that literally leaves nothing to the imagination and is unconcerned with subtlety, and somehow also evokes a completely alien musical terrain. A criminally underrated gem.

All The Dread Magnificence of Perversity. Really anything by Gnaw Their Tongues, but that album in particular is some of their best in my opinion. And sorry if someone else has already mentioned it, I don’t feel like scrolling through comments at the moment.

For me it's mostly about the artwork and the tension, the aggressiveness coming together to capture a mood or nonverbal statement.

I’d really be more interested in the music you make videos about if you actually played a sample of it I mean it just a necessity.

Love this! It’s interesting, I find signalwave to be so comforting. It sounds like falling asleep to the weather channel, snuggling up at home to home shopping channel on a snow day, staying up on a summer night listening to the radio, late night TV after signoff. I’m so sad about your dad. He’s out there somewhere with my mom.

Awesome video Pad and a hearty thankyou to every signalwave artist relentlessly and tirelessly bringing us the fuzzy, crackly, broken-down sounds of TV and radio that we once thought lost to time. Being another vaporwave artist from New Zealand I have so much respect for TV2; I was blown away at the range of samples she was able to dig up over different projects, stuff that I didn't even know existed like Hawke's Bay regional TV snippets. There's also one album I'd like to mention that I didn't see brought up: WASTED DIGITAL by Western Digital. I don't know how much it's really considered as signalwave, but it's so distant and hazy and really reminds me of visiting Seattle in 2018. Coming in to land on a rainy night at almost midnight, my first time in the continental US, the comfort of driving through the city feeling like I was inside a vcr-classique album cover. The album captures that essence for me and is one of my all-time favourites

Did we really (REALLY) NEED another genre comprised of piecing together snippets of OTHER PEOPLE'S copyrights and HARD WORK?!?!? I mean, we live in the age of the MOST amazing tools for music creation in EXISTENCE!! Seriously... Superior Drummer 3 UNREAL acoustic drums, Tonex & Kempers amp modeling, Pianotec's (Modartt) piano modeling, all the Symphobia, and East West's (and a million others) Orchestra libraries, UAD Plugins that are better than their analog parents... Cherry Audio's affordable (& outstanding) synth emulations (Along with a ton of other developers) It boggles my mind how ridiculously lazy people can be!
@log2251310 күн бұрын
shut the fuck up, its art. why dont you make an album and prove to us how lazy we really are then.

Many thx for this video. I been also making in 2012 some plunderphonics/gaming/AI voices samples more on the dark side.. Have encountered Signalwave back then but it was all engulfed in the general vaporwave momentum... Would be nice to actually see how this long 80s early 90s sound vibes with the literary theory of financialization (Delillo etc) Scandals and Abstraction: Financial Fiction of the Long 1980s book by Leigh Claire La Berge.

Sampling is an artform, which makes Barber Beats art. Remember "Robot Rock" by Daft Punk? I think it's one of the best electronic tracks ever written, but it wouldn't exist without the source sample, which is unaltered and looped over and over again.

Hey pad, so you made me re remember a rabbit hole with Asutenki. im pretty sure the whole thing with Asutenki taking down his music had something to do with an ARG at one point? but him taking everything down came before the announcement of the ARG to my knowledge. if i recall correctly i remember something about there being additional albums to find or something, like unreleased or "secret albums" i think they were referred to. although im fairly certain nothing ever came out of the arg and none of the albums were found its still weird and sad they he never put the albums back up.

"anathema" is pronounced with the emphasis on the second syllable, not the third, and all "a" sounds are like the "a" in "gigAbyte". uh-NATH-uh-muh.
