Jon, I've been using Excel for decades, but I never realized you could double-click on the Format Painter to repeat use. What an awesome revelation. That example was my favorite. Keep up the great videos!

You can also use ctrl-y which repeats your last step. That is very handy to repeat stuff that has no shortcut.

I was going to post the same thing! 30 year Excel user here and it's always pee'd me off that you had to click the Format Painter each time, or so I thought! On the one hand, I love videos like this as I learnt something new. On the other, they make me feel stupid for (A) not realising that there was a better way, and (B) not finding it out myself!

I've used Excel for many decades, have taught Excel to my colleagues. I'm a keyboard shortcut user and consider moving my hand to the mouse as hitting a speed bump. I consider Ctrl+Shift+U the geekiest keyboard shortcut I know. Thank you for sharing it with your audience. One of my favourite Excel tips is to untick Edit directly in cell.

I bought your Pivot Table training about 10-years ago. Since then I’ve been recommending your tip emails and your classes to anyone I encounter using Excel. I wish everyone would take a deep dive into Excel if they are going to use it in their work or life. Too many people are still using it like a notepad. Thanks for these tips. I learned a bunch of stuff. I’m retired now, but still use Excel to make order out of chaos!

Very useful! Thanks, Jon. My tip - I like to put the QAT below the ribbon: the icons are clearer and coloured down there and you can fit many more of them.
@notesfromleisa-land4 ай бұрын
I'm so reliant on my QAT (below the ribbon as you note which is so helpful), that when I have to help another on Excel, I find that I'm swimming through peanut butter to get to the needful things. We develop so much muscle memory in using our Excel tools.

Though I've used Excel for many years, first at work and now at home, I've learnt several useful tips here. My favourite is double-clicking the Format Painter to lock it, rather than having to keep clicking on it to reformat several other cells on different parts of the worksheet. It certainly saves time! 😃👍
@marlenemccullough15674 ай бұрын
I knew several of these short cuts which are super helpful; the F2 button for entering/editing a cell was new to me and will have to try that one. The other one was the fill handle, I have known about putting cursor in the bottom right corner and dragging but double clicking to auto fill/update the cells is very helpful. I will be forwarding this to staff in the office so they can learn new tricks as well, if they don't already know. I believe half the staff I have forwarded emails from you to them and they may already be on your email list. I really like the tips and tricks - although some of the more advanced tips are over my head - but at least the accounting staff can find them useful. Thank you Jon for all the great information.

My favorite KZbin hack: For all of the Excel tips and tricks that you know you won't remember, create a saved list call Jon's Excel Hacks and save the video for your future reference. Favorite? Like picking a favorite child. (1) Lock the drawing tool. (Though I don't draw much). (2) Double clicking on the Toolbar to collapse and restore. My all time favorite tip from you is your running totals in tables. It is a feature I use a lot, and your method is both simple and effective. My personal tip for those who work with tables extensively: lot, adding the table totals icon to the QAT. Also the column filter toggle shortcut is something I use frequently. It is a godsend for eliminating any filters from a table quickly from large tables.

Thanks! One way to achieve that is with a table of contents sheet. This is just a sheet with a list of sheet names and links to each sheet. We can use a macro to create the sheet. Here are a few videos that explain the setup. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pn23oZtpZtyskLssi=K1Mf5-TSLveAEPbJ kzbin.infoD4eZZr9RqCg?si=VAr_TC6Eu_d4kGad There are other ways to do this, including linking to files instead of sheets.
