I would use the conditional formatting along with the regex functions to validate data that I might enter or import from an external source.

This one’s pretty powerful, it’s a hot key for a feature called “flash fill” - you can also select it with the mouse by going to the data tab in the top ribbon. You have to type some examples immediately to the right of what you want to have broken out in separate cells, then use flash fill. It can help if you want to add/remove characters in the source data.

I'm looking for how to do this using a date in a different cell as the start date. That date may or may not be the first day of a month.

Oh my goodness. Power query was the best for me. Thank you so much. On another note, every August we have a huge business meeting (approximately 800 in attendance) that I have to download all the data from the online registration and create name tags (among other things). I usually download all the info into a csv, then create a 'label' in Word, add the fields, .. you get where I'm going. Is there a quicker easier way? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I need calculate due dates based on the last report date entered in a cell. 1. One year ahead, one month back, and that last day of the month. 2. Two months ahead and one day back.

Hi Jon, This was an excellent method to explain a very complicated topic. I was not even aware that we could calculate Running Totals in Excel Tables 😉 Thanks for all your efforts.👍 I was wondering why the Table Names were not appearing in the formulas. Then I enabled them using the below options: File > Options > Formulas > Use table names in formulas (This is something new I learnt today🙂) I am not sure when and why I had un-checked this option. I just wanted to confirm if this option of "Use table names in formulas" is enabled by default in MS-Excel? Regards, Deepak.

Thanks, great clip, as always. One suggestion though, to paste the Symbol/emoji, instead of going thru the "Format Data Series - Clipboard", you may choose to simply use the shortcut key "Ctrl+V"

Thanks for the video Jon. I have been using conditional formatting for many years but have always had problem with the 'applies to' on Rules Manager changing when I move, add, or delete records within the sheet. I have a monthly running spreadsheet with conditional formatting applied to several different fields, but as I move, add, or delete records the conditional formatting breaks on the 'Applies to' in Rules Manager. Is there any way to always apply the conditional formatting to the complete field when move, add, or delete a record?

Any update on increasing the font size (usability) of a dropdown list? I increase the zoom on my spreadsheet to 300% and still can't hardly use the tiny dropdown data. I'm in the field with a tablet trying to tap tiny numbers with a fingertip.

Is there a way to format the charts so that it automatically displays the check, x, or - based on the underlying value? If not, I don't see the point of doing the whole chart thing, and you could just manually lay out the 5 shapes/ pictures you want and just type the category names under them.
@ExcelCampus5 күн бұрын
Yes, the chart will automatically change when the underlying value changes. Sorry if I didn't make that clear in the video. I do show it at the end on the chart with pictures of a person. And that will work on all charts. When the value in the cell changes, the icon/emoji/picture will change.

I am totally using this in my hours / client billing dashboard. I should have thought about this option. I feel a bill hours range assessment attached to such a great chart option. For the formatting… would I need to first set the chart manually to all options (good bad middle) and then layer in the automated calculations for 1,2,3,etc? Another way…In order for the dynamic feature, it first needs to be set up for what each means?
@ExcelCampus6 күн бұрын
I'm happy to hear you'll be using it. In regards to your question, you can change the names of each category AFTER the chart is made. Sorry if I wasn't clear on this. You can download the example file (link in the description) and just modify the text in cells L5:P5. Let me know if that makes sense, or if you still have questions. Thanks! 🙌

I am sorry if i missed it but where is the a chart? What I saw is to learn how design a diagram that is not linked to the source of data.
@ExcelCampus6 күн бұрын
Hi David, I want to make sure I understand your question. The source data for the chart is in cells K5:P8. It is just 1's and 0's that either show/hide each bar (icon/image). Those numbers are results of the IF formulas based on the numbers in L10:P10. Are you asking how to link the values in L10:P10 to your source data? Data that might contain the source or details for each metric?

Thanks. I want to create a multi product sales chart YTD for each location with Sales# and sales $. I used clustered column chart type for unit sold and unit price for Product A,B,C. All 4 locations sold product A, 2nd location sold product B, 3rd location sold product C. In the clustered chart, there is a Gap between two products in location C. How do I fix that Gap?

I extract information from a bank description that includes the deposit date from the deposit ticket, the store#, and the bag# the deposit is in. I use Mid/Find right now, but I think this will be easier and it won't matter how many characters are in the cell. Thank you!!
