Great footage , as always! Done some riding here in British Columbia on "talcum powder " as we call it. Definitely a challenge . You always hope for a strong crosswind and not riding into the sun!
@madjack_7572 күн бұрын
I had no idea BC had moondust! Yeah a crosswind definitely can make the difference between it being manageable and unmanageable. In some spots the dust just lingers in the air forever!

Hell yeah. I was gonna hit the IDBDR(2nd time) and the WABDR this year but I tore a ligament on my foot a month before the trip so I had to cancel. It'll be nice to watch this to see some of what I missed although I intend to go for it in 2025. The moon dust is brutal. There's an area near me that's got a couple of "roads" that are notorious for being moondust but beneath it are some really deep ruts from 4x4s. Miserable to ride in. It only gets worse when you're in a group cause of the visibility and the toll it'll take on your air filter.
@madjack_757Күн бұрын
Man thats such a bummer you missed those trips! Moondust is no joke dude especially with a crew of other riders. Visibility is gone in an instant.. My best strategy was to try and be in front whenever I can be lol. By the time we get into orergon I have some power issues with the bike and have to do a quick trailside cleaning of the air filter.

I've seen many Bears here in Eastern Oregon between Pendleton and LA Grande Oregon up in the Emigrant Springs area. Never met one up close Thank God. Beautiful animals though
@PowderMonkey4Life2 күн бұрын
I've seen more bear in NorCal, than WA or OR. Late season moon dust (talcum powder) is the worst. NorCal paved "BDR" 2nd bear I saw on this trip, at 8:17 kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5yqfWaMpr-CjZo

2:04 Cooper's Store on the WABDR! I've lost track of how many times I've been there over many years I've been riding in that area. What part of September did you do this trip? September is a good time, although the days are a bit shorter. At least it's not scorching hot like it is in July and August.
@madjack_7572 күн бұрын
We rode this route from early to just past mid september and I think we definitely caught a bit of that transitional weather from summer to fall. Hot days in WA and cold, rainy days in OR.
@DualSportDoug2 күн бұрын
"The Jungle" can be a PITA going uphill, on a heavily loaded, larger ADV bike like a T7, for less experienced riders. The later in the season it is, the more moon dust there is. It's fun though. I've ridden it up and down hill on my DRZ.
@madjack_7572 күн бұрын
I think it was one of my favorite sections on the WABDR!
@downbytheriver501Күн бұрын
It was an absolute blast on my T7 although in hindsight, dialing down the preload on the rear shock would’ve been really nice as my bike is setup for aggressive riding (beyond my skill level aggressive) while fully loaded so it was quite jarring.

Jack, I love your videos. They are very well done. I have one question: How do you transfer the files to reuse your memory card while you are on the road? Or you carry several of them with you, if so how many and what capacity?
@madjack_7572 күн бұрын
Thanks so much! For this trip I think I was carrying 15 or so SD cards. I run Sandisk 256GB V30 MicroSD Cards in my GoPros and DJI cameras. Then in my Sony FX30, I run 128 GB Lexar Professional V90 SD Cards. All of my cards are kept in a small water tight hardcase that is no bigger than a wallet. That is on me at any given moment when I am filming. When in doubt, swap to a fresh battery/SD card whenever an important shot could be coming!

Also whats the deal with all the wild fires? I've been in Alberta for ~17 years and don't remember forest fires when I first came here
@madjack_7572 күн бұрын
My theory is winters have been shorter/drier and then that the forests are overladen with fuel. We’ve gotten so good at fighting fires that we’ve left our forests too laden with burnable material that fires are burning hotter, longer, and across more acreage. It’s really sad. In the states about 50 percent of them come from human negligence too. So, I am a huge advocate for paying attention to my campfires and stuff.

How far south of the Hoser border does the silt stop? Honestly, I've had all the silt I need for one lifetime.
@madjack_7572 күн бұрын
Hahahahaha yeah the silt is really challenging at times. I think generally speaking the silt was the worst for the first 200 miles, but there genuinely was silt along the whole journey. Oregon is where we saw less silt. Oregon was a lot wetter of a climate for us as well, so I think that tamed down the dust.
@Davran27422 күн бұрын
@@madjack_757 - Coming from Vancouver Island, I could take the Blackball ferry from Victoria to Port Angeles, and head south east from there to get onto the southern part of the WA bdr. I wish the Sidney BC to Anacortes ferry was running, as I could go from Everwett east on hwy 2 to hook up with the WA bdr there.
