Take hand sanitizer & use often. I caught a nasty bug that I think I got from handrails in the tube. Germs of all nations. But I loved the city.

2:32 Thinking you need cash: Well this is starting to change. With the cost of living more people are using cash in the UK to keep closer tabs on their expenditure. Also, sales outlets are obliged to accept cash even if sometimes they don't want to. Can I also recommend an Oyster Card when travelling around London on Buses, the tube and overground trains.

I believe you have to pay a fee to get an Oyster, and they don't return that fee when you want to return the card to get your balance back. Depending on your international card fees, it might be easier to just use contactless.

Thumbs up for your Citymapper recommendation. I always suggest it for visitors to London, but when you're travelling to other cities it's intelligent enough to pick up when a local version is available and prompts you to use that version if you'd like. It worked well for me in New York and Paris for example.

Thanks for sharing! We started using it for other cities too. It is super helpful and give piece of mind when taking public transport or navigating a city.

I really don't see the point of using Citymapper. Google Maps and TfL Go have the same information (Maps even added costs recently), almost always suggest the same path and use less battery. Citymapper absolutely murders my battery on Android.

Nice video. Regarding the use of a contactless credit card for the train travel. Does this work on the Piccadilly line and the Jubilee line? I get confused between the London Underground and Trains And The Tube
@YourGuidesAbroad
@YourGuidesAbroad 5 ай бұрын
Yes, contactless works on the Jubilee and Piccadilly. They are Underground (Tube) trains. National Rail trains require tickets. National Rail are the big trains that leave from the stations (Waterloo, Paddington, Euston, Victoria, Clapham, etc). Thanks for the question!
@maleldil1
@maleldil1 4 ай бұрын
@@YourGuidesAbroad National Rail doesn't require tickets if you're inside Greater London. You can use cards and Oyster just as you would use in the Tube.

Do not try to use Oyster or contactless on the Stansted Express. If you do you will get a big fine. Buy a ticket. Contactless can be used to buy a ticket. Alwsys buy a ticket when using the Stansted Express.

Hi! We are traveling to London with our 15 and 17 yr old sons in April! We’ve heard contactless is the way to go, but our kids don’t have credit cards. Also, as we have been buying tickets and things abroad, our credit card always asks us to put in a code to verify purchases. I’m worried this will happen when we are trying to scan for the tube! Any thoughts or suggestions? I know it’s $7 for an oyster card, but maybe it’s worth it for our situation? Thanks!
@YourGuidesAbroad
@YourGuidesAbroad 5 ай бұрын
Thanks for asking, they can use Apple pay if they have phones. But, an Oyster card is convenient once you get it. It sounds like your best option. You can try your credit card to see if it works. Mine asks for verification at times but works on the tube. It depends on the card and type. Not simple! You can apply for discounted Oyster cards for your sons if you like: tfl.gov.uk/fares/free-and-discounted-travel/11-15-zip-oyster-photocard?intcmp=55575

You two are awesome. But I have to quip. 'Please ask to stroke my dog.'🤣 It's all about body language folks. Pets really don't care about what their owners think when out walking. If the pet is approachable it's happy for your attention. Only those we common folk call snobs care about their pets being touched. Look it up. Peace out.

American ex-pat here, in London for 40 years, some good advice, but just to add: Buses are the biggest bargain in London; after 3 rides, the rest of the day is free on the bus; it's called "price capping." However!!! You can transfer unlimited times within one hour of your first ride without charge! 2. Americans are known to be loud, please speak in soft tones. It's so embarrassing for me when I encounter Americans. And now my tip. London is expensive, so eating in pubs (many serve food) is less costly than restaurants. For a cheap meal, many supermarkets have cafes, where food is much less expensive.
