I just retired & my hobby will be mosaics. My head is about to explode with ideas & what to learn & where to learn it. This is the first video I have watched of yours. Watched others here on youtube but you are the best - Great advice. Thank you so, so much sir!
@TreasuryRoad4 жыл бұрын
Thankyou I appreciate that very much. I find the easiest thing to do is to look at a project you want to do and only concentrate on how to do that project, you will find as time goes on you will learn other things and its only when you do more mosaics that you will learn other techniques . Its better doing it this way then you dont have to concern yourself with other things that you may not want to do or will come at a later date. Trying to get everything right in your first mosaic wont happen but as long as you use the correct substrate, the correct adhesive and the correct materials for the environment its going into you will cover most things and the main thin is to just enjoy the journey and dont let everything become to daunting. Start with something simple first so as you finish it and get to know your tools and materials. :)

Thank You so much! I love all of your videos! Very helpful. The last tip is the best. The hardest part is starting, and then, finishing. Lol. I think I have to know everything and everything has to be beautiful. Ha ha ha. Just starting, for me, is the key.
@TreasuryRoad3 жыл бұрын
Thankyou very much starting is the hardest part for many, but just start off with something very simple for inside, you really learn most as you go as there's more than one way to do a project so one persons way may not suit you. Don't wait till you have all the information because that will never happen, start when you have all the information for your first project, its a lot easier that way. :)

You mention to do the sides first, do you mean also grout them before starting the top, or can grout whole project once completed? Also, with 3D type items, like items that will need extra cleaning, can they be glued on top of the grout once it has dried, or pushed into the grout while still wet? That way they don't get grout in them so they will stay clean. ??
@TreasuryRoad2 жыл бұрын
I generally grout the whole job in one go when I have finished and the adhesive has fully cured. Adhering the 3D items on top you can do after grouting and once its fully cured, but it does depend on the look you are after. Don't embed the pieces into the grout because grout doesn't really have any adhesive properties so they will most likely fall out. :)
@maryemerson39663 жыл бұрын
You said to place beads higher so they don’t get buried. How do you do that? I guess you make the thinset bed thicker? Thank you!
@TreasuryRoad3 жыл бұрын
You would just need to gauge it with the other Tess you’rejust want them sticking up a little bit more as round beads have less surface area. 😊
@debbiepoetsch93554 жыл бұрын
Hi -- I really enjoy your videos! Thanks for all your tips. I am sure you said this one somewhere, but I learned the lesson of using "too much adhesive" by doing a piece on a mirror with glue chip glass. That was weeks ago that I finished. I used silicone and am still waiting for it to completely dry. The piece that I didn't use too much glue is dry and looks great. Lesson Learned.
@TreasuryRoad4 жыл бұрын
Thankyou very much Debbie, appreciate that. It can be a bit difficult gauging how much adhesive one needs sometimes it can be a fine line but the more you do the easier it becomes. I see those instances as not mistakes but opportunities to grow and learn. :)
