I saw the comment about sharing tables in the buffet. And was reminded of a story that actually happened to us on the seranade of they seas. Seating was so busy we had to find a table on a different deck. While my daughter went to fill a plate, I held a table for us. When I saw a ships officer looking for a place to eat. I motioned over too him to share our table. As it turned out, he was the captain of the ship! We hadn't even set sail, and were having lunch with Captain Stig of the Searenade! Soooo cool!

Cruise lines need to enforce the Adults Only Pool area. If you bring a kid on a cruise, you and the kids belong at the areas for kids. You are NOT entitled to bring your kid to the Adults Only. Rude, entitled behavior! I've seen trays in hotel hallways.

On ours with several stops on the excursion, it was always the same couple. I blame this continued behavior on the Tour Guide either wanting no bad reviews or inability to know how to handle people. The rudest thing I experienced on a cruise was on a cruise I took on Carnival in 2019. I was using a walker, and I found walking through narrow areas that people walking toward me would not step out of my way, forcing me to step out of their way. From a hospitality perspective, Putting your dishes outside your stateroom door or if on land your hotel room door, is the proper way to take care of used dishes-it’s protocol. It’s not your room steward’s responsibility and Dining comes by to collect the dishes. To be polite, put them as close in to your door as you can. Covered is nice if possible.

An extremely rude behavior in the buffet is picking up a plate from the stack of clean plates, holding it for a while, changing your mind and putting it back on the stack. I saw someone do this and I said to them that once they pick up a plate, they own it. I said to them, if you don't want the plate, just put it down on a (clear) table or the alcove where staff stack dishes. No-one wants a plate once it's been in someone else's hands.

The buffet cutting in line discussion is most interesting. I’m sure I could be considered rude, but living in a city that was well-known for its buffets, it is ok to bypass the slow decision makers. There are also many entry points and plate pick ups. I’m not talking about pushing and shoving your way up the line. I’m talking about the people who have a hard time deciding or want an ingredient list. In my opinion, I feel like I can pass them. Rude or just well trained from my local environment? I’m sticking with well-trained.

Great list. I agree 100%. It's so annoying when kids hog the hot tubs. I've been on 20+ cruises and have never been in a hot tub. All day, every day it is kid soup! Kids running around the ship unsupervised should also be forbidden. The rudest thing I've ever encountered was on NCL in May. We arrived early to a standing room only presentation. Right before the event, an entire family weaseled their way through the crowd, stood directly in front of us, blocked our view, and talked the whole time! I was flabbergasted! It's also VERY annoying for people to talk with their cellphone on speaker. Literally, NO ONE wants to hear that conversation. So baffling!

THANK YOU FOR mentioning that those with mobility issues should be allowed in and out of the elevators first. Too often, it can take half an hour or more to get on because people will rush in before a person in a wheelchair can get on. But on that same note, that is another reason to not leave trays of food in the hallways, too. Because the hallways are already narrow, as it is. But if one is trying to dodge plates outside cabins in the hallways, it can be dangerous. Not just for the ones actually in a chair, but for those relying on holding onto the railing along the hallways. The smoking one can also not just be an inconvenience to others, but a health hazard, as well. I can stop breathing if someone near my balcony is smoking. ESPECIALLY marijuana. And I don't want to end my vacation in a medical emergency.

On the buffet line cutting, I sometimes do it, but you have the exact reason I do it also mentioned here. If I am in the buffet line, and someone in front of me is moving at the speed of about 1 foot every 2 or 3 minutes (takes them 20-30 minutes to go 20-30 feet) AND the next item I want is way up the line, I will cut in front of the slow moving people into the big gap that has usually developed in front of them. I am a borderline total carnivore, and I don't think I should have to wait for 1/2 hour to get to the items I can serve myself in about 2 minutes. OTOH- if the line is moving briskly I do not cut, I will get to what I want soon enough. SOME buffets pretty well handle this by having a bread station (or island, whatever), another for salads and veg, another for entrees, another for desserts, etc. Then I can go straight to the entree station and I am done. But when there is just one 150 ft. long buffet, it can be a major aggravation to wait for the slow people. Some of them seem to want to make their salad into some kind of artwork, taking cherry tomatoes, olives, etc. one at a time, then sort of examining the salad before they take another one. WTF?
@polaris2ba
@polaris2ba 4 ай бұрын
Totally agree with this. It also seems that some people don't 'look ahead'. They wait until they get in front of some food to decide if they want it or not. Also, if I'm not interested in bacon/sausage, etc and there is a gap beyond that, I will bypass.

I recently discovered that Pool Hogs are not limited to cruises. We were camping at a state park recently which has a small camper's only beach, in addition to a larger beach in the day use area. Our site happened to be close to the ramp down to the camper's only beach. The morning of the 4th of July I was sitting outside about 8:00am looking out over the lake and reading when I started seeing people taking their chairs, umbrella's, etc. down to the beach. When I saw the folks in the site next to us, walking toward the ramp I asked them what was going on. They told me that people start claiming their spot early, that it would be full by 9:00, and suggested we save a spot right away too. When I saw this I thought of you and your channel, and chair hogs on cruises and started laughing out loud! So the moral of the story is that chair hogs are everywhere, not just on cruises! LOL!

Hi, Ilana. Last year on our 16 day Panama Canal cruise, we were seated next to a couple with whom we struck up a conversation. Turns out they embodied many of the traits covered here! The woman complained about dining room wait times, sent her dinner back claiming it WASN'T the trout she ordered ("I'm from Georgia, and I KNOW trout!"). Then she shared that she had been comped the cruise as she ran her own agency, though she only booked for her family. To top it off, her husband blew his nose in the cloth napkin, and casually lay it on the table, goober side up! Needless to say, we avoided them the rest of the cruise! As far as the other issues, we have had people smoking on adjoining balconies on multiple cruises. As far as hats on while dining, I, too, feel that this is generational. I worked in a high school for 20 years, and at the beginning we spent much of our time requesting students to remove their hats. We then held a referendum, and the the biggest question from the students was :Why?" To them, it was simply a fashion statement.

Another great video. Now of people will listen. I did notice on the Carnival Spirit we took, the buffets were not self serve from the front-serving staff placed food on your plate for you from behind. And bacon was a great example because you had to ask a few times if you wanted more than the 3-4 strips you were given. One area we found always very low was the pizza buffet. They would crank out two pizzas at a time, but had an order for a whole pie. Then the remaining pie filled the next one, or two plates. Otherwise the food was delicious even for an extremely picky eater like myself. And, unless you drink gallons of soda weekly, the iced tea, lemonade (mix those) water and coffee was the way to go. Happy cruising

We were on a Disney cruise in February and had a really difficult time with the cabin beside us smoking on the balcony. The smoke would go right into our cabin if we had the balcony door open, and many times we had to leave the balcony as the smoke would blow in our faces. We complained a number of times to customer service. They tried very hard to have the neighbors stop, I believe they even ended up placing a fine on their room. It made our trip miserable as my son has asthma and we could not use the balcony we paid for. Disney did end up giving us an onboard credit for our next cruise. It was frustrating as we have never had to deal with something like this before and it was a special occasion for us. We also had our door decorations taken, we searched the hallway and found them on other doors. That was our 4th cruise, never had encountered anything as bad as this before.

I make salted finger cloth gloves (salt solution: one T salt to one C hot water plus 1/8 teasp liquid dish soap to make salt 'stick') prior to trips. Then I can touch common surfaces with the salted gloved hand and reduce risk of bacteria, viruses, germs. It makes it easier to avoid cross-contamination of touching a common surface and forgetting and touching other stuff, like glasses, cabin cards, purse a drinking glass etc which is then potentially contaminated. I also salt my masks. Read the research, look up search terms salted mask ncbi

It is quite sad that people dont understand that we have to care for each other. I guess your best option is to wear your mask, wash your hands and I would suggest not going to the buffet , preferably you should eat at the restaurants and hopefully be able to distance yourself. You could also eat in your cabin if distancing is not an option. I am one of the few who still wear a mask in public inside shops, COVID is not seasonal, it goes around all the time and mutating. I kind of appreciate that it also shields me form other bacteria or viruses.

@@chapman1569 yes the past few years have been a real eye opener for seeing people’s empathy or lack there of! I picked a very small ship to have the least amount of people (under 1500) so I’m feeling better about that. We will find some hidden gems onboard early on and stay there as often as we can. Mentally accepting that I will probably pick up some bug but just hoping that my mom who is cruising with me will not get Covid (one of the few who has never had it!).

Smoking on balconies is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. I am not a smoker & when people think that it’s ok to smoke on their balcony, all it does is tick off those of us who don’t smoke. So please…if you must smoke or vape on your cruise….PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do so in designated areas so that we may ALL enjoy our balconies.

I agree with a lot of what you said, but I have a question. If you're in the dining room and you unexpectedly sneeze, and everything's running out of your nose, what should you do? If you have no tissues or paper napkins, you can discreetly use the cloth napkin and fold it in such a way that your waiter needn't touch the dirty part. Then ask for a clean napkin.

You’re spot on with most of these! I thought this was common sense but I see it happening EVERY cruise. I will say that I feel smokers should be allowed to smoke cigarettes on their balcony IF THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE about putting it out properly but I understand why we can’t, and so I don’t. But the #1 thing that sends me into a tizzy is when people are waiting for an elevator (wheelchair or not) and another person/group shows up and quickly jumps on an elevator before the folks who have been waiting. It’s an unformed line, RESPECT IT!

We went on our first cruise a few weeks ago, with Carnival. The people in the room next to us broke many neighbor rules: they were loud, yelling, fighting, singing, slamming doors, and playing music at all hours. They constantly left food and trash in the hall next to our door. Our balcony was aft of theirs, and the smoke and smell from their illegal activity made our balcony unusable at times. And that smell sometimes drifted into our cabin. While the food onboard was truly fantastic, and the crew super nice, this will likely be our last cruise. One more thing, of the 12 people in our group, 6 came home sick with some respiratory illness.

Yet another thing: The Carnival "Hub" app was practically useless for communication in our group. The Wi-Fi would disconnect after a few minutes of inactivity, and the chat feature was glitchy for some, and totally unusable for others. This was frustrating for organizing group activities.

I’m flabbergasted at the amount of adults that let their small Children serve themselves at the buffet. The smaller ones don’t have the motor skills to make a choice and move along. Picking them up and holding them so they can make a choice is rude to others waiting! Your 6 year old with a full plate of food doesn’t need to pick up 9 pieces of INDIVIDUAL bacon for their plate. 🙄 Seat them with someone else and get them some food. It happens at home, so let it happen at the buffet on vacation. Stop letting them touch all the plates, utensils, serving tools! It’s maddening! I too am annoyed with adults bringing their under 18 into the adult area. I don’t care that you’re just sitting on some loungers, that’s less loungers for those of us who are over 18 and want a quiet relaxation spot. Because kids are rarely quiet, it’s even more frustrating. There should be an over 18 wristband for those areas. If you don’t have it, you are asked to leave. Less stress on the staff.

THANK YOU for bringing up wheelchair, walker, and scooter users for ELEVATORS!! You would not believe the amount of RUDE people that see me waiting in my scooter (during crowded times especially) when they walk up and will hop in the elevator ahead of everyone else while I’m trying to move around people or back up so I can get in… and it’s NOT so they can hold the doors open for me. There have been a few times that cruise staff has seen what was happening, and they would find an elevator about to open, block the doors, and LOUDLY tell other guests to let disabled people on first. 😤 I honestly believe these rude people make ASS-UMPTIONS about why I need a scooter based on my appearance and think I’m not truly disabled and don’t deserve to get on first. I’d like to have choice words with those people, but we sail on Disney and it wouldn’t be very family-friendly words. 😂

The "no hat in the mess deck" thing is a rule in the Navy! You aren't supposed to have a "cover" (hat) on below deck, period. But especially in the mess deck (eating area), because, in the days of sail, dead bodies would be stored there temporarily (until they could be given a burial at sea), and in the modern era they would be stored in the refrigerator. Also the eating area in general is considered consecrated on a Navy vessel. 🙂To leave your cover on below deck is considered disrespectful to the vessel...you're telling her that she won't keep you safe. Like Captain Kirk said, "she's not just a ship, she's a beautiful lady!". 😃(that's why it's rude to leave your hat on inside someone's house, because you're saying that person's house is poorly constructed and you're unsafe inside. 😃) But yeah there's no saluting below deck in the Navy because you're not supposed to have your cover on. In fact we generally don't salute above deck on submarines because submarines are very informal. (we salute again when we're ashore...I messed that up once after my first underway). 🙂
