Wonderful. They should write this into the public constitution that all these classic historical aircraft should be kept flying for as long as possible as a recognition to our heritage.

The sight and sound of the might Spitfires taking off from a grass field in groups one after the other, that goes to the soul. It brought tears to my eyes knowing that this was but a taste of what the squadrons entering into the Battle of Britain looked and sounded like. That Merlin sound, the growl of freedom not willing to succumb to the fascist onslaught of Hitler. Not knowing if they would come back or not, those brave souls, most likely scared half to death but knowing that their cause was just, their fight righteous, and if it came to be, their sacrifice would not be in vain, for their brothers and sisters in arms would carry the fight on, ensuring freedom would prevail. Then, the whole flight of Spitfires coming over, incredible, absolutely incredible.

Wonderful sight! To complete the show a flight of hurricanes should have joined the spitfires, they deserve the same appreciation.

Name a plane more iconic than a classic Spitfire.

Very, very spine tingling, what a sound, shame my lap-top even with headphones doesn't do this justice. This is a taster for what the sensation must have been back in the day, but then it was life or death and a daily or even hourly struggle. Somehow this "squadron" just seems to bring the sight and sound at least much closer, WOW!

Wenn es auch Feindmaschinen waren so ist es trotzdem schön sie in einem derart gepflegte Zustand fliegen zu sehen, mögen sie noch lange ihre Runden drehen Viele Grüße und viel Glück aus Deutschland.

This just showed up in my feed, wonderful video! I was lucky enough to fly in two seater Spitfire MT 818 in August 2021, but could not see her here. Give there are so few surviving Spitfires, getting 17 together was a magnificent feat, but do any viewers know if there has been a larger formation since end WW2?

Probably during the filming of the movie The Battle of Britain in the 60s From Wikipedia; The film required a large number of period aircraft. In September 1965 producers Harry Saltzman and S. Benjamin Fisz contacted former RAF Bomber Command Group Captain T.G. 'Hamish' Mahaddie to find the aircraft and arrange their use.[6] Eventually 100 aircraft were employed, called the "35th largest air force in the world".[8] With Mahaddie's help, the producers located 109 Spitfires in the UK, of which 27 were available although only 12 could be made flyable. Mahaddie negotiated use of six Hawker Hurricanes, of which three were flying.[9] The film helped preserve these aircraft, including a rare Spitfire Mk II which had been a gate guardian at RAF Colerne in Wiltshire

Actually you're both nominally right, I was there and 3 of the formation were 'Seafires'-Spitfires modified/adapted for aircraft carrier roles- in any case who cares? Just watch, listen & savour :o)
