I have never used a finger break, nor could I tell you the difference between hemming die or a gooseneck die but I am in awe of the level of organization. I’m sure you could sell these for a mint to metal workers who could appreciate this

One summer I worked as a press brake operator, and the only times you would want to have the bottom V separated was for clearance on a multi-bend part. Another reason we would use separate bottoms was for multiple setups at once, like for a rectangular box you could have one 24in section, a gap, and a 6in chunk. Love seeing your videos and always finding "a better way"!

I've seen so many modifications on this same shop press and this is the best I've seen by others on KZbin and HANDS DOWN this is the best one yet! Your video's are well thought out and explained in complete detail. By no means are they long winded. I'm a person that's wants to know how everything is done in full detail including materials. Your video's has given me some excellent idea's and how I have improved my own shop and they worked very well. Thanks Doug!

The one reason for the bottom to be segmented would be for outward turned ears when bending boxes. Similar to the same reasons you might need individual widths on the top. I love how thorough you are.

Have you ever thought about making the press wider? Im wanting to make mine 30-36" wide for larger sheets I need to bend. Then extend the swag spring retainers out more. Theyre just returns. They arent under force while pressing. Just odd everyone does all these smart upgrades but never extend the capacity of the bender.

Well thought out & executed upgrades to the HF press! I literally needed that smallest "tiny" angle iron adapter to tweak a tiny piece of stainless yesterday! I had to grind & file a 1/4 x 1" strap with a tiny "V" to make my bend. I knew I couldn't be the only one with that problem. You have solved every problem common with these presses, Thanks!

A lot of good ideas there. Especially enjoyed the brush cleaning brush. I used 2 pieces of 1" x 2" solid bar stock with holes drilled in the end for 5/8" bolts in place of the angle iron bottom. This allows me to adjust the opening for the fingers to push through. I can adjust to a very small opening if the bend needs to be close to the edge or have a large opening for thicker metal or a more gentle bend. It will allow me to bend beyond 90°. The bars are not held in place so it requires some lining up with the fingers, but the advantages are worth it for me. Have a Merry Christmas. Look forward to more videos next year.

Holy cow! I have the same HF press and i almost purchased a 3 in 1, 12 inch unit shear , roller and press. Realized that it has huge limitations and easily broken if limits are exceeded. Your video is eye opening. I plan to copy all you have done and i will have created a fantastic addition to my home shop. I have a large mill, metal lathe, metal band saw and am a certified welder. Am retired so i can't wait to start this project. You are wonderfully creative. Thanks for the ideas.

The whole time you were talking about shorter bends I was thinking about why couldn't you use the bottom part of the Hemming die? There's probably an obvious answer just not to me other than it's short. I definitely feel like I need this break attachment now, I just discovered it in other videos, seems like a great compromise to having another tool taking up significant floor space.

I foresee one problem with the storage of the finger brake itself. What if you need the full length of the press, as in pressing a bearing on or off an axel. Wouldn't it be a better idea to move the storage of the finger brake forward or back of the press centerline?

I've been wanting to pick one of these up for about a year now. In that year I've seen countless videos on how to upgrade but I really like your die setup and the way you got the fingers going on this everything in here is a class above the others. My question here is where did you get this finger dye setup and how much was it? Since watching your getting organized in the shop video I've gotten into my own shop and freed up enough space to park two more cars believe it or not. So I just want to say thank you for helping a guy get motivated and to get back out in his shop and enjoying it. You've always got such good content and I appreciate that keep up the good work look forward to the next one's.

What gauge did you end up using for the legs? I’m worried about going too light and having sag or flex being unsupported in the middle where the weight is carried. Your set up seems to holding well! The reference offered for needing 7 or 8 pieces of angle iron is FALSE! SWAG suggests using 4 pieces of 1/4" angle iron, and that is the proper amount needed. One 2-1/2" x 2-1/2,....one 2" x 2", ....one 1-1/2" x 1-1/2",....and one 1" x 1" The reference to the possibility of loosing one or more of those pieces of angle iron is a bit of a "red herring" I painted my pieces of angle iron with alternating red and white stripes. There is no mistaking what they are intended/reserved for, and are easy to see/find, wherever they may be!
