Cats also have a fantastic memory of those they love. I have a friend who had two feral cats who were afraid of everyone. I once cat sitted for her when she was gone for a month. The cats got used to me because I fed them. Many years later,after a long absence, I went to visit my friend. We were talking in the kitchen. Upon, hearing my voice, the cats came running to greet me. They don’t forget.

I know from experience that cats respond to human emotions. When I'm in a good mood and things are calm, they are relaxed and want to hangout , when I'm angry they steer clear and when I'm grieving over someone I love, they stick very close like they're trying to comfort you. Having had 15 cats in the last 30+ years, I can attest to the fact that they are highly intuitive and form lasting bonds with you while maintaining their independence. Such fascinating and wonderful, and might I add underappreciated, creatures.

You're so right! It's amazing how they can tune into our feelings and react accordingly. I remember when my cat Dottie died, I made sure that my cat Chester was aware. It may sound strange but I made an effort to show him her in her box/coffin. He understood the situation. If I remember correctly he nudged his head to her and then me. But I know that within the next few hours he had brought me a dead bird. I knew it was his way of trying to make me feel better and express sympathy.
@Feline_Fanatics9 ай бұрын
That's a deeply touching story, and it doesn't sound strange at all. Many believe that pets can understand loss and show empathy in their own ways. Chester's response to Dottie's passing, from the gentle nudge to bringing you a dead bird, indeed seems like his way of expressing sympathy and trying to comfort you. It's a beautiful reminder of the emotional depth and understanding animals can have, and how they, too, process grief and seek to offer support. Your thoughtfulness in including Chester in saying goodbye to Dottie likely helped him understand and mourn in his own way. Thank you for sharing such a poignant moment.

One of my kitties was very close to a canary I had already when I brought him home. Corky's health started to decline shortly afterwards. He would go and wrap himself around the bottom of the bird cage when I moved Corky's perch closer to the bottom of the cage. He noticed Corky's final decline sooner than I did. When Corky died, it was the only time he ever showed aggression to myself and my older cat. That lasted for about two days before he returned to his normal sweet self. He was also depressed after my older kitty died about 5 years later. He showed the same behavior when my Dwarf Netherland bunny died. He was close to both the bunny and my bird, a true animal ambassador.

My beloved cat, Zen, hopped up on the bed and i was worried for a moment that she would crawl up on my chest, as she sometimes did when i first laid down. But she knew that there was something not right about me, so she nestled herself between my body and my left arm, and then she started purring and her paw came up and rested on my chest, and she just sat there and purred. After 2 month his veterinary doctor called me and said, that she saved a kitten from death and was taking care of his health for some period, and as he was already healthy, she was looking for a home for him. I still was very depressed because of my BBF died, but doctor convinced me to at least came and meet the kitten. Well, ofcource I came back home with this kitten)) He was a pure devil, but it totally helped me to switch from depression to completely new things, as I had to deal with this pure devil kitten. Now he is 8 and I cant imagine my life without my beast, even that I wasnt prepared for this cat at all 8 years ago. Actually, now I have 2 cats because when the beast was 4, we adopted him a friend (it seemed to me, that he needed someone else to play with).

Put out food if they are colony cats. The cat or kitten that wants to come home with you will let you know. A hint: if a bonded pair both show interest, take the two -- they and you can be very happy together (there is more than enough love to go around)!!!! When her litter dropped she had disappeared then she brought the litter one by one to my porch hiding under my porch. As they got bigger they would be playing all around me. I had become family with them. Buddy learned to climb my pants leg to at first sit on my lap. Later he climbed up and laid down on my chest inside my jacket or sweater where he would sleep almost all day. Even if I got up and walked around he was content to stay inside my jacket. He was the best and everything I could have ever asked for. My Buddy.

I always go back to their natural habitat and then it makes so much sense. Cats (and dogs) are desinged for grassland hunting. Thats why they communicate with their tails, thats why they have feremones that come off when they rub on things. They are built to run through grass and not be seen becasue they are shorter than the grass that they are around. When they want to hide, they put their tail down and no other cat can see them. But when they want to communicate with eachother, they put their tail up above the grass and other cats can see it. The tip then communicates whatever they want to communicate with the group. They see the tails of other cats (dogs are the same) and when they no longer want to talk, their tails come down again. It's almost like talking ships used to do by waving flags. The feremones things, well they rub past all the grass that they are goingg through and it leaves smell trails that they can follow. so they "see" the scent of all the different cats going all different directions, look in that direction and either see a tail (come here and look at this) or not (don't come here, I'm hunting something). Closed eyes means "I'm comfortable to close my eyes and you won't steal my food/toy or attack me or if you do get food, you will share" Slow blink means "I'm pretty comfortable with you - but I don't trust you too much lols" When you slow blink at your cat, you are saying the same thing back to them. Genuinely, it all makes sence when you take it back to their natural environment. Crying and kneeding mean "I'm a baby and havn't grown up yet, so baby me". I just say that they are saying "I'm baby!!!". Trilling means "I'm here" or "I'm going now". When my cat trills near me, I normally trill back letting them know that I'm here too and realise they are here.

Enjoyed the video and have observed this in my (should say his) cat. However 0 purrs or nervous meows at the vet. Wild growls and constant spitting at her. Any suggestions? The vet had to knock her out to examine her the last time. Anesthesia isn't good for humans-much less a cat who cannot always communicate side effects.
@Feline_Fanatics9 ай бұрын
One suggestion might be to gradually acclimate your cat to the carrier and car rides by making them a part of regular life, not just for vet visits. Also, consider using calming pheromone sprays in the carrier and on blankets, or even a shirt with your scent in the carrier to help soothe your cat. Some vets offer or recommend sedatives or anti-anxiety medication that can be given before a visit, which might be less intense than anesthesia.

Actually all of this could be boiled down to ONE point. Does your cat AVOID you? If it's more often than not? You in the I'm just tolerating you faze. But if they literally attack you to draw blood? Your definitely in the I HATE you GUTS faze. I received a young cast off cat from a family and their cat had kittens and Pepper was the left-over no one really wanted and well I realized that I was lonely to an unhealthy degree. My parents retired to another state with WARMER weather and my only surviving sister wouldn't care whether I was alive or dead so I have NO family anymore on that note and as far as me being social? Good luck for those who work third shift. I'm plenty social at work but on the same note? Can't be too much as we are ALL here to get a job done. The trigger that happened? I found a motherless kitten and fell in love with him INSTANTLY even after the first five SECONDS of picking him up? He was shitting on me?!? But I also knew he was just a baby so I couldn't be mad at him at all and he was starving and badly malnourished. It took a month to actually get him health... then I made the BIGGEST mistake I could make. I gave him grilled chicken from work. He LOVED it and just about refused to eat anything else. Well, it was seasoned with lime juice which I knew but I didn't realize how TOXIC lime is to cats. A few weeks later he had a seizure and died that same day. Named him Buddy because I desperately needed a buddy and after fighting with him for almost two months to help him live? Only after I did some serious research I finally figured out I poisoned him. Here I was trying to treat him for worms... but nope, it was the grilled chicken. His fleas were hard too because I knew in his weaken state? Even flea collars could kill him. Then a co-worked told me her mom has a cat she wants to get rid of and that's HOW I have Pepper now. Refused to change the cat's name BECAUSE she knows it and? She's a snuggle angel. I though it would take a couple weeks of her GETTING to know me before she warmed up to me. Nope, it was IMMEDIATE. This cat trusted a perfect stranger on day one. I don't know how or WHY she accepted me instantly. But I DO know if I let her? She would have me holding her ALL DAY. She is a extremely sweet cat. But cats are like people too and just as there is always a bad apple in a group of people? Sometimes you CAN run into a bad apple of a cat too, granted it's more rare. Some cats are easily TRIGGERED and you don't have to be the source if or when 'other' people abused them. I STILL can't believe Pepper let me walk away with her taking her from here current family so easily but I've also made a point of NOT letting her regret it either. Cats are a responsibility and it's up to YOU to figure them out and once you take in a pet? You are basically making it YOUR family.

Does anyone know what it means if your cats do a little paw twitch with one of there front paws while walking/sitting or both paws when they are laying down??
@Feline_Fanatics8 ай бұрын
Besides stretching and showing relaxation, these twitches can sometimes be a cat's way of communicating. For example, a slight twitch while sitting or standing might indicate anticipation or excitement about something, like when they're focusing on a bird outside the window or getting ready to pounce on a toy. When they're lying down, the twitching, especially if it's both paws, can indeed be related to dreaming, as their muscles might react to whatever adventure they're having in dreamland. Cats also have a special reflex known as the "pedal reflex," which can cause a twitching motion in their paws when their pads are touched. However, if you notice the twitching is excessive or seems to be causing your cat discomfort, it could be worth mentioning to your vet, just to rule out any medical issues.

@@Feline_Fanatics awesome thank you! I figured it was from excitement cause it usually happens when I get home to 2 of the 3 of my cats!

Looking at it from the cats perspective would it be better to have one cat or two cats ? If you have two cats is it better to have them from the same litter so they would have that bond or does it matter ? If you have two cats should you have 2 litter boxes or one ? Same with the food bowl is it ok to share food bowl ?

Cats do love some company, so having a buddy can be awesome for them, especially if you're away a lot. If you're thinking of getting two, grabbing siblings from the same litter can make things smoother since they've already got that sibling bond going on. But if you find two cuties from different places-they can still become besties with a bit of patience and proper introductions. Now, about the practical stuff: definitely aim for a litter box for each cat, plus one extra if you can swing it, to keep the peace. And food bowls? Some cats are totally ok sharing, but others might give you the stink eye over it. Watching how they get along can help you figure out if you need to double up on those too. 🐾🏡

First time hearing about gurgling. My male cat does that when he is excited. I was wondering why he did it since I had never heard about it.

Definitely a well kept secret. I've so many strides in my dealings with people I've bonded to over the years simply because I made the decision to take my pants down and spread my cheeks. My relationships became so good with these amazing folk that they called police for welfare checks for a few years after just to make sure I was doing okay! I don't ever hear from any of them anymore but I know that's just because our friendships are just that strong! Infact, I can already think of a few new friends I have made that I think I'm ready to show my trust to. 😊
