Original airdate: 4/9/2019 | A local teenager had trouble finding a job, so he took matters into his own hands. Now he's running a half-a-million dollar business at the age of just 17.
Brandon Bechtel was just a 13-year-old looking for a job.
He thought about the standards. Lawn Mowing. Landscaping. A google search then gave him an idea. Candles.
"So I purchased some supplies, some materials, some labels and just try to put it all together," Bechtel: said.
And thus began Brandon's Candles.
"It was a real rough product. Labeling was not good. The candle quality wasn't great but people still took interest, still bought my product," Bechtel said.
Four years later, not so rough. The business made $500,000 in sales last year alone.
"I had switched from Etsy to Amazon Handmade and saw a large increase in sales," Bechtel said.

Many of the people who are professors at university teach at that job because they have had a career in their field. The ceo of Pepsi used to teach a business class at my husbands university after he retired. You could say that about any Major in University the reason you go is to acquire knowledge and skills to help you in your career.

Also not to mention the amount of times he's gonna get laid.

So true trial and error is so real. I love how honest he is because the struggle is real. Four years ago I hit depression hard and didnt have a dollar to my name. I refused to give up on life after thinking of suicide. I decided to start making it happen. That good things could happen to me just as it happens to others. Now four years later with a part time job I have 30 k and will start my business this year. Im going to start from scratch but already know the basics of not borrowing money. During those four years I went through many ways to save the right way. Maybe around 6-7 ways of getting to my budget and saving all I could. Ive also been 1 year free of fast food which is what was eating my money. Ive mastered it and now its second nature.

My grandson has lived with us since he was 8 years old, he just turned 18. He will graduate this year (2021). He has worked with me in a couple of my businesses and right now he helps part time with my appliance business. June 1 he will come on as a full partner and will be making more than lots of people with degrees make after 4 years of college and 5+ years on the job. No idea why my parents always told me to graduate high school and go to college is the only way you will have anything in life. Well, myself and several others have debunked that theory.

@@qwertmom or distract him from his business. In the business arena, he'd be better of seeking good mentors who have achieved more instead of professors who have achieved tenure. Though, my guess is he's going to school for a STEM degree and not to learn business.

123 123 the for profit education system is the biggest scam in America. Sticking people with student loan debt that they can’t go bankrupt on, yeah no thanks. Especially since all the information taught in schools is available online for free. I dropped out of school and now making six figures as a real estate investor. I paid $400 for a mentorship and learned more from that than I did in 12 years of public education. Don’t waste your time
