I dated a guy whose family lived like this. Once he moved in with me, he cleaned. I never asked him to, but it was something he had pride in. You’ve given this 17 year old a fresh start, I wish him the best going forward, because this is rough.

@@popcornanytime7414 I think it would be difficult for a young person who was never given a good example or shown HOW to clean a bathroom (or anything, really) to suddenly be able to keep it nice and clean. I think that Rob will be okay, no matter what. He knew that this wasn't something that they could fix in their own, and he asked for help. When he moves and lives on his own for the first time, I think seeing this sort of transformation will give him the motivation and confidence to know that no matter how his own place ends up being, he'll be able to manage it on his own, or ask for help again.

She treats her son like most people treat their pets. Even in relatively clean houses, I've seen their pets' water dishes looking disgusting. My house gets messy, but I won't give my cats something to eat or drink out of that I wouldn't also use. Sadly, most people think that's more gross. Just because your pets tolerate un unclean bowl, it doesn't mean they like it or should have to. They deserve empathy.

Best cleaning products: dishsoap (#1), toiletbowl cleaner (acidic) and scouring milk/paste. For dirty ovens/really bad fatty dirt it's oven cleaner (alkaline). Auri also uses chlorine to get rid of coffee build up and I used it in toiletbowls for years until I switched to using mostly toiletbowl bowl cleaner, my mistake was that I didn't let it sit for long enough. She has a few old videos in which she talks more in depth about cleaning products/methods. Never use oven cleaner and toulet bowl cleaner together, never use chlorine with hot water, you can mix all I didn't specify though with each other and those specified, but in the end: just use them after each other. Dish soap is used to get rid of grime and dirt and often times the limescale sits on top of the dirt, so you don't need to take extra care of that. If you have limescale however use toiletbowl cleaner, also in sinks, and well I'm also using it on tiles if the grout is dirty. Works like a charm.

3:50 Yeah, I found that comment weird and unsettling, too. I understand these people often need help, but she basically just said (at least in my opinion) that this bathroom was too gross for her to shower in (which is why she showered at work), but she allowed her son to be showering in it for who knows how long? Knowing it was too gross for herself? Yeah, I know what you mean, Auri. That comment lowkey made me feel icky, like she didn't fully care about the wellbeing of her kid? I don't know, I don't think most people wouldn't admit they let their child deal with this shower alone. The fact that she told you made me feel like she was like, "Yeah, I know it's bad, but I didn't try to do anything because it's not affecting ME." I don't know, maybe I'm looking too much into it Maybe she thought that at 17, he should clean it? But even then, she also let it get to this state, so she should help. I mean, it takes years for a shower to get like this. But in the end, it's still crazy how she removed herself from that situation and left her child within it. This bathroom was like this long before he was 17. The question is: How long before? 😢

My kids when they were young and living at home, even from age 7 would thank me all the time for having such a clean home. I worked several jobs, had a useless husband but my house was always immaculate. Even if I got home at 1 AM after a nursing shift I made sure the house was perfect before I went to bed. Laundry was always done, folded. Everything looked so clean. It annoyed hubby( ex now). He said women saw invisible dirt. But the kids would come home from playing at a friends and always mentioned whenever they came home how they appreciated our home. I wanted to at least reduce any stress caused by mess. I guess it was partly my Love language. Kids should be kids, happy, clean and comfortable. I did give them chores, folding clothes sometimes, picking up toys after they were done playing etc. it was the least I felt I could do. Now as grown adults with families they all keep really clean homes. Just do the cleaning as you make the mess. I’m retired now with a lovely hubby. My home is always clean. A bit more cluttered with a few of our collections but not messy. I hope the homeowners you clean for manage to keep it up a bit better than prior. Trust me I have depression and anxiety and it’s harder to get motivated but I still keep up. Thank you for what you do. Love from Texas. ❤️❤️❤️

@@laurelldockall2399 I don't remember thanking my mom, either, but she has passed away and I can only "tell" her posthumously. :( I was the youngest of 6 and didn't appreciate how much mom did. Then I had a family (mom passed when I only had one 18mo. old), and as my family grew it was harder and harder to keep things clean and tidy. We had a lot of stress in our house and I fought depression for many years. It was cluttered, but NOT trashy. We kept up with the dishes most days and it never got to looking anything like Auri's cleanups, but it was cluttered with baby things and toys and clothes. I wasn't a hoarder, but people would give us bags and bags of hand me downs and toys, because we had 8 kids and didn't have a lot of money. That just meant that I had a new job of going through all the bags and, especially with depression, that was hard! Our house was small and husband worked a weird schedule and I ended up sleeping on the futon most nights and sometimes it didn't even get folded back into a couch during the day. :( Fast forward 15 years and we've "launched" 5 kids and now the house is tidy and clean and uncluttered. Whew! Thank you, mom, for all your hard work when I was a child!!

Yep, it's easy to see children brought up in squalor and with a hoarder either become passive sufferers or start to imitate the parent. She should have had serious intervention about her issues years ago. She WILL recreate the filth for her own comfort and basically she does NOT care about her son in any normal way, she cares about self soothing with disgusting bits of garbage. It's like living with a full blown alcoholic. They care about one thing and it's not another human. People like this by middle age are usually lost causes. Rob needs to get out ASAP and never look back. Leave the woman to her precious filth and garbage.

Poor Rob. By 17, he should have been taught that cleaning, scouring, laundry and folding and putting away and organizing and cooking and cleaning and balanced meals, etc. etc. are EVERY PERSON'S responsibility. By 17, he should be able to learn (via books, internet and valid sources) how to remove old wallpaper, every trace of paste, spackle holes, painter's tape and take some investigating PAINT itself. He is not stuck with baby wallpaper, just a baby mentality. And I will mention that the best rule my folks had was no opposite sex were allowed in our upstairs bedrooms, nor to hang out unless one parent was home. IT DOES NOT MATTER if your parent is the best or worst example, as we all still can learn how to overcome and take pride in our own self and not expect to be paid besides. SO this little gal made a how-to video of CLEANING. Do it daily and weekly as life is not a once and done.

Don't you dare to put this on him. He's been clearly neglected for years since he was a little boy! Taking on the task of cleaning such dirty home is not something that a 17 year old is able to do without help. It's overwhelming, depressing and all kids of wrong. Especially if he grew up in this! It's the mom's responsibility. Let me repeat that - it's his mother's responsibility! She's been neglecting him and that's a form of abuse. I don't care what her mental state is. She should know better and ask for help if she can't cope. She failed him big times and i'm so sorry he had to go through this. I hope he gets out soon. This is not gonna get better. Putting this responsibility on him is cruel!

Cleaning is not intuitive and if they are living like that odds are he was never taught to clean. Even if he was the amount of mess in this video would be overwhelming for most people.

I’m glad the 17 year old reached out for help. That bathroom is terrible. But I hope the boy learns how to keep the bathroom clean from now on. It needs to be done daily… There are spray products that can be used after the shower to make daily clean up easier. It’s too bad the mom isn’t teaching him how to clean herself. The boy needs to learn that because he will be living on his own soon enough.

its clear that the home has always been dirty, and sometimes in these situations, cleaning it would offend the mom. we're all glad the bathroom is better now, but its in no way the fault of the minor

Judging by the feminine products that were in that bathroom the mother played a huge role in cluttering it to beyond being able to clean it and when the opportunity to shower at her work came up she just walked away from the mess she made without a backward glance OR any consideration for her son. 😢 I think the lack of consideration for her 17yo son showed in a Big way was the nursery wallpaper and the tiny bed in his room. I can’t see him wanting to have friends or his girlfriend seeing that his room is a nursery 😢😢😢

Many people are upset, because 17 year old boy didn’t clean a home as his mom. I was more than 30 year old woman, when I moved again with my husband and kids to my parents’ home and my dad was hoarder. I hoped I will be able to make my home beautiful as I was child and it was ma goal. I stucked in that home, because we weren’t able to do anything, my dad didn’t agree to do any renovation to make our lifes easier like fe. clean running water. If I moved something to the trash, it has generated so many conflicts. I felt so overwhelmed and frustrated. I understand that teenager, because maybe mom didn’t let to throw any items and monitored every move of the son, when he tried to make it

BUT I NEVER END UP USING THEM!!! i actually finally threw away like 5 medium/smaller boxes in my room and moved out a bunch of craft stuff and the difference it made in making my room look so much neater shocked me. life is full of boxes and i trust i will be able to find more if i ever need them…

Hopefully the Mom needs to have an intervention for her hoarding. But as you said, maybe they'll all start to purge stuff ....... it clutters your home and your mind. Last year I went on a purge journey, every single room except my husbands office ( not allowed). It is so much easier now 😊. God bless you Auri !! Excellent job as always. ❤❤

Maybe there’s more to the story. A few years ago, our hot water was out for almost a month (horrible landlord and we ended up just moving ) and after a few days, with the weather getting colder I could NOT tolerate the cold shower. I work in a healthcare facility and just happened to have a full bathroom with a shower in my office. So I showered there until we got situated at home. My son (who was like 20 at the time?) refused to come up and shower in my office and insisted on taking cold showers every day. I felt so bad about that but I couldn’t get him to budge. Fortunately we were able to break our contract because they didn’t fix the hot water issue and it was almost winter, so we moved and had normal showers/hot water. But sometimes things aren’t as they appear?

It’s the house of the mother and it’s her duty to keep it clean, her son can help her, and learn from her if she cleans it. This enormous amount of plastic bottles in the bathroom , from different cosmetics, comes from a woman, not from a 17 year old. Take this boy out of this hoarder house, he still has a baby wallpaper at the walls! Give him his own space and he will keep it clean.

You did a fantastic job. I hope Rob can find comfort in the clean spaces you gave him and I hope more that his mother moves passed acknowledging her issues with parting with inanimate objects and works towards detaching herself from her things. If I were her I’d want to do whatever I could to make my son stay for as long as he wants as someone with physical and mental deficiencies. I hope her son is more important than holding onto stuff.

Not only do we love watching you clean and listening to the stories, but I have learned SO many great cleaning tips from you - especially the difference between acid-based and chlorine-based cleaning products! That has been a game changer and your safety tips about using them is also really great to know. Many years ago my sister, when we were teens, mixed the two and got real dizzy and sick for about an hour. We knew it was from mixing cleaning products, but I had forgotten what the rule was until I saw one of your videos recently! :)

My mom still lives like this, i started my family but i lack discipline and order in my mind firstly.
