In video #1725 I took Rodney's new Kryptonite evolution bicycle lock, which he had had trouble opening with his new Sparrows disc detainer lock, and go through my "process". Yes, I had a couple of common problems aligning the tool, but left it in the video so you could learn from my mistake and see how to quickly fix it.Not a "perfect" video, but few are...
In this video I mentioned there might be some differences between an earlier kryptonite I opened with a prototype tool in video 1465. In reviewing the older video the exterior appears identical to this one.

LOL, you're a BOLD man Bill. Not many would modify & GRIND away on a ... million dollar tool.

Agree with Insoft, I first thought that the disc edges has been rounded so the pick tip would slip. At least manufacturers are upping their game a bit. 👍

Yeah, I have this lock. The keyway protector thing comes off with two standard Allen screws, that should give you more room. I noticed that mine is fussy with the key, so I'm guessing that the tolerances are quite tight and the core binds up well if you don't have the key inserted exactly right. I don't think it's as secure as my abloys, but I'm confident it's okay to lock up my bike with it. I think that there's 7 disks in it plus a non-acting disk at the front and another one at the back, so sort of 9 disks all together.

I love how, when you're trying to find out how secure a given lock is, you can just search for its name on Bill's channel and just look at how long the video is. Video is 2m12s: don't bother. Video is 11m45s: that's a pretty decent lock. :)

Seems like the perfect lock to practice on, pick that one guess the others will feel so easy. I bet these companies are working hard on trying to make the disc dam hard to grip onto perhaps they will start to bevel or round off the corners of the discs in future

Agreed. And I'm wondering if using inconsistent spacing between the disc would provide additional pick resistance, unless there's some law of the universe which requires consistent spacing.

I gave one of my clear practice padlocks and a set of them accompanying picks to my daughter's friend and he is such a natural, spent half a morning with them and he's popping Yale door locks, padlocks, my car's door locks then I had to explain to him he couldn't be walking the streets with the picks as under UK law that is going equipped, nice to see someone take something and really learn from it a new skillset :)

Obscurity does work sometimes, so long as it's actually secure, and not just looks like it might be.
@saschaschneider6355

Also use at least two different locks of a different type. Most bike thieves are specialised on a certain type of lock and will leave bikes alone that have different locks. And even if they cut them loose having two locks or more means twice the time effort, meaning they might move on to a different bike with a single lock only. You don't need your bike to be super secure, just more secure than others
