Sailing Blown Away

We have always wanted to navigate the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal and finish by dropping anchor in the Bohemian River. Traveling from Cohansey, we had an easy 18NM passage to the entrance of the canal and a shorter 15NM journey through the canal. Once on the other side, it was a quick trip down to the beautiful Bohemian River. The next day we picked up anchor and set our sights on the crazy and shoal-y, Fairlee Creek. This inlet entrance should only be attempted at slack tide and preferably high slack. It was an adventure and added to our skill as cruisers.

NEW TO OUR CHANNEL?
We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our NEW life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we have very little sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia.
So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too!
As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Hopefully, you will be as BLOWN AWAY from watching, as we are in experiencing and producing our adventures!
If you wish to support our video efforts, all we ask is that you SUBSCRIBE, give a THUMBS UP, and SHARE our videos with your friends!

Hello!!!! How are you guys? It was a great episode. I have to admit that I had no idea about that the Chesapeake and Delaware canal. I crossed those bridges many times without realizing what I was crossing 😩😜shame on me!! Thank you again for such a great job. Question: I see Brown always fighting the bugs( I am the same way) I thought that being so far from the coast you will be free of them. I did not realize it is something that comes with the life on the boat? I never had that problem while sailing. Maybe it is the areas were you sail? Let me know what you think? Please stay safe. Cheers from Canary Islands ❤️

Hola Carlos!! So good to hear from you and trust you and your family are well. Thank you for your comment. We didn't know anything either until doing research before going through. It's such a fascinating waterway! We crossed the canal many times too and never had an idea of what was below us or the history of the bridges! As for the bugs...it totally depends on where we are and the wind. If there is no wind, the bugs can be bad even off shore. If there is wind, we rarely have issues with the flies and bugs. That's the general rule of thumb pretty much for everywhere we have been....

Thanks for teaching about the history…I wonder if a roof designed to collect rainwater could be designed to feed water into the water maker…or a purification system…or collect water from all of the flat surfaces…

Thanks for watching and your comment. For sure a better designed roof would work!! Of course purification is still necessary!

... Rock Hall/Haven/Swan Creek are much better anchorages ... IMHO ... good full service marina's ( w/ bicycles) ... full service local supermarket ... and 10-12 good resturants ... all with-in walking/bicycling distance ...

Thanks for your input. Everyone looks for something different in an anchorage and thankfully we have a lot of choice on the Chesapeake.
