WHAT IS HIGH GRADE STONE?
Anything you can run a 1/2" or more flake with a pressure flaker.
HEAT TREATING:
Heat treat a few FLAKES of everything you got except HIGH GRADE Raw Stone, Obsidian, Dacite, Basalt, Hornstone, Sonora, Fort Payne, or Rhyolite. Start with flakes and spalls less than 1" thick for 200°F for 24 hours to dry it out. Then raise the temp to 275°F and hold for 4 hours. Let cool down for 12 hours. Chip and compare. If no difference, put back I at 200°F for 1/2 hour, then raise to 275 for 1/2 hour, then raise to 325 for 4 hours.
Let cool down for 12 hours. Chip and compare. If no difference, put back in at 200°F for 1/2 hour, then raise to 275 for 1/2 hour, then raise to 325 for 1/2 hour, the raise to 375 for 4 hours.
Repeat with temp going up 50°F until you reach 600°F or nice chippable stone. Whichever comes first. If no good result, or things blow up, let us know.

Omgosh you just gained a new follower/subscriber. Amazing how you take the pieces off. When I want to see inside rocks in a new rockhounding area, swinging my rock hammer from over my head downward and still not breaking the rock. I have had parts of the rock fly up and bite me in the chin, arms and other places when it dies break. And here you’re using that tool effortlessly or appears to be effortlessly. And the pieces gently resting in your hand. And chert isn’t a soft rock by any means. Awesome work. 👏🏻

This chert's colour reminds me of a report I saw of a woodland site up here in Ontario with the same stuff (named in the paper as Texas oxblood chert or something to that effect). Kind of insane to think about the trade routes they had back then that stuff from the southern US was making it all the way up to northern Ontario! Thought you might find that interesting. Great video as always.

Just finished the video. Outstanding. As I watched I wondered how the extra material would tumble. And you brought up tumbling. What would you do with the extra pieces you don’t have a rock tumbler. How about putting the pieces up for sale? I’m certain you have a lot of rockhounds that would buy the pieces to tumble. And it would add more money for you to buy (or whatever) your tools, or to invest in your channel. Anyways love your work. Absolutely amazing how skilled you are. 😊
