Spacer is the best way. Been doing it that way over 50 years. Other ways may damage the part.

Not really pressure, but force. From a Physics class: Force = Mass x Acceleration. F= M x A. Tatro is correct, more mass (weight) on the slide hammer makes more pulling force. You don’t have to understand Physics, just Experience and a little common sense.
