Bought the 17mm and 25mm for my Pocket cam, I'm making an arthouse indie film. I have Meike's Primes, & Artisan 17mm ( which you also reviewed, what a lens for the price) and Sirui anamorphic's and a bunch of vintage glass but these are by far the best I've bought...'by far', I'd spend 3 times that on any major brand to get the same look and feel, they really feel like old Cooke glass. Loved your reviews, hope they bring out an 8mm. Keep em coming bro, bless.

So what is the verdict of these lenses?
@psysword2 жыл бұрын
@@markusrytilahti fabulous. And to tell you the truth I'm new to the whole Pro video thing so have been learning as much as i could. Shooting with my 17 mm lens that translate to 34 mm so that's my favourite lens so far. But big plans for the other lens in the kit too. Gh6 with Atmos raw is just swallowed up by my Mbp M1 pro in FCPX. Awesome all the way. I'm in love with my honeymoon right now. Thanks.

used in GH5 we need to put the crop factor x 17, 24 and 35mm ?
@Red35Photography3 жыл бұрын
Depends on your camera setting. I used it on my Olympus and there's no crop on 4K or FHD, which means 17mm is 17mm (34mm FF equivalent). If GH5 is similar then it will be the same.

Interesting set of lenses and you didn't waste any time-the only place I can see to buy them right now is directly from the manufacturer. Mitakon makes good lenses that don't get enough admiration. I was considering getting a Speedmaster 25 years ago and these very well-known reviewers were dismissive of it, like it was a toy, a novelty, when in fact I and others will tell you it's a very solid lens you can do nice work with.
@Red35Photography3 жыл бұрын
They are pretty cool actually. I do genuinely like them. Very different to my Olympus pro lenses of course, but I would consider them as an unique proposition in some projects, that unique draw is different and something you can't do in post.
@mfreeman3133 жыл бұрын
@@Red35Photography I could see a young person just out of film school, trained to use this type of lens, for whom these would be a great affordable option, especially if you're most comfortable using sets of matched lenses. And of course they extend your low-light reach into full-frame prime territory. So there's definitely a niche, as you yourself pointed out with a degree of broad-minded insight not universal among influencers. : )

Nice video, in which stop the lens start producing chromatic aberration?

I actually almost bought the 17mm t1.0. I saw it was recently released and almost pulled the trigger. But I couldn’t help think it would resemble their photo counterparts. It seems to look identical in IQ with their photo brothers but much better cine exteriors. Which is nice for some but I prefer the smaller frame of the photo versions. Thanks for doing this!

Great review! Now I'm considering adding cine lens to my collection for my MFT cameras, however I would like to know what is the equivalent aperture in F values shown in your camera when you open these lens at T1.0 I understand that T vs F are not the same but how does it translates in F values? Keep up the great work!
@raksh93 жыл бұрын
T values are usually a bit higher than F stop values, so I'd guess these lenses are around f0.95. As an example, the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 photography lens is T2.2 in the cine version. There's no direct ratio as T value is affected by lens coating and not just number and type of elements. As another example, the Olympus 17mm f1.8 exposes darker at f1.8 than the 17mm f1.2 Pro at f1.8, showing that the Pro lens has lower T values.
@roblivings74473 жыл бұрын
0.95, but as it's for MFT cameras, it's the equivalent of about f1.8 on a super 35 camera -- which is damn impressive for an MFT lens.

Thank you for this video. I am a novice in filmmaking and don't understand much about lenses. Being MFT mounts, will there be a crop factor?
@arifgraphy3 жыл бұрын
Yes. MFT has 2x crop factor compared to 35mm. So, 17mm=34mm, 25mm=50mm field of view.

Great content as always!! They do look solid, and the price is surprising!! I'd expect 600€ in Europe though... How do they compare to the Meike T2.2? Those are pretty awesome, a tad cheaper and a tad slower.
@Red35Photography3 жыл бұрын
I haven't actually tried Meike, though at T1.0, it's quite a bit faster than Meike, and as you can see from my review, at T2.0 it's pretty sharp across the board on both 17 and 25mm, so it means that it's comparable if not better than Meike, so that extra cost is to give you a few stops in light :)
@RogerinFinland3 жыл бұрын
@@Red35Photography I asked the same question to Peter Forsgard, same answer :) let's see if I get to meet him and maybe borrow my Meike lenses. You are totally right about the T1, makes you drool a bit even. Let's see about the pricing though. The Meikes T2.2 in Europe range from 360 to 400€. If these speedmasters stay under 500€ might be a no brainer. If they go north of 600€ starts to be a different story. Thanks for replying anyway!!

The Meike are fantastic lenses for the money and produce beautiful images on my pocket cam, I have the 8mm, which is simply stunning and that's a keeper. I also have the 16 and 35mm, but these speedmasters tho trickier to use are just miles ahead pound for pound.
