I love your attitude, and common sense to getting around. I was on crutches for over 6 months. Definitely will be easier on the wrists. Make sure to exercise your left leg, or at least stretches because after the year recovery I'm going through, it's a huge strain on it. My last PT is next Friday. Almost a full year. I've been in the gym daily for the last year deciding I need to get healthy. Lost 36 lbs so far. You got this

As a combat veteran, the VA trained me to be a mindfulness instructor working with vets that suffer PTSD and combat injuries.. Through meditation and the neuro plasticity, you are able to rewire the pain circuits in your brain..Couple years back I cut the end of my thumb off with a saw and ad I waited several hours, I decided to see if what I teach actually worked.,My wife was freaking out but I just started doing my breathing practice.. As I relaxed and found my rhythm , I began to focus on the pain instead of running from it., I identified where the pain was, burning, stinging, radiating, throbbing, were they constant or intermittent.. Ad I did this the pain started to diminish..It did not totally go away but was able to tolerate.. Many in the group were able completely give up opiates.. Might be worth a try for you.. I commend you on your positive attitude which helps in the healing process..

Since you're in such good spirit from day one i really admire your way of accepting your faith and adapting to everything from the get go. I know riding is your love and since you're this open and accepting of everything iand you had a lot of time to think over the past how many days I must ask did you think about riding again eventually, I know a guy who lost his shifter leg in the crash and he's still on two he's like shifting with his knee pulling the prosthetic up entirely. Unless the camera is flipped i belive your shifting leg is still intact appart from your toe right. Sorry of being upfront i dont wanna cause you any discomfort its riding is my new found love and when i saw your first video after the crash i immidiately thought of how would i personally handle it and one thing came to mind is that it would hurt a lot to lose the ability to ride cause riding is saving my mental health rn.

Then again, I'm still trying to edit a simple video of last month's moto camping trip where Matt and I rode up to your Daniel Boone National Forest moto campsite to visit with you, and after that video is uploaded, I need to edit and upload the moto camping video from this past week. Meanwhile, you're uploading a video daily while recuperating and doing PT and OT. As my Mom would say, I'm too lazy to work in a pie factory.

Thank you for posting these videos and sharing your story. I've been following you and following along since your accident. This whole time I have been considering buying a motorcycle myself. I keep going back and forth over the fun/joy of it but then the reality of the risks sets in and it dissuades me. It's like an endless cycle. I see a bike on the road and want one, then consider the risks and am again dissuaded. I know this is probably premature for you, but if you could do it all over again would you still have gotten into motorcycles? Thank you for sharing your story and know I am thinking about you. I have been following your progress and you, sir, are a champ!! The same thing could happen to me, and at 70, I’m not sure I could bounce back very well from something like that. I’m a LD touring rider on a Goldwing, so your 80MPH get-off can very well happen to someone like me, which causes me to re-evaluate my protective riding gear choices. You had on enough to protect you from catastrophic injury (my definition is death from head or spine injury), but what can be done to lessen the injuries you sustained?
@langhamp89124 ай бұрын
He mentioned the tailbag came off the bike and then got sucked into the rear wheel, thereby locking it up. And he thought most of his foot/leg damaged could have been prevented by wearing proper boots. I personally always wear an Aerostitch 1-piece suit which is very fast to get into and out of, and since it's one piece I'm can't just wear the top when I'm tempted to. Jeans and sneakers are casual wear, for relaxing at home or maybe going to the mall. It's not for riding.
@4940markhutchins4 ай бұрын
So is that what he was wearing? Jeans and sneakers?
@langhamp89124 ай бұрын
@@4940markhutchins I've been following him since last year when I was researching a camping trip on my motorcycle (the trip went great mostly because I very carefully followed his tips) so I was surprised he went down at 80 mph. His videos don't really show him riding on anything other than slow roads or dirt trails. You CAN wear jeans and sneakers if you ride slow enough. I've worn the same and crashed my scooter several times at low speeds in the city with no injuries. However, if you're going on the highway at highway speeds then you really need some sort of 1-piece suit, gauntlet gloves, proper boots that lock onto your ankles, and a least some impact armor. And still expect some injuries.

Nobody can tell me about screwing up and crashing without wearing enough gear. I went down at wide open throttle in top gear on a 400cc motocross bike {estimated to be between 65-75 MPH) while wearing absolutely nothing but surf shorts and a pair of flip flops! If that wasn't bad enough, I was on fresh tar and crushed limestone gravel that was less than a week old - in other words, the equivalent of an endless, human cheese grater. I had full-body skin damage that would make road rash a welcomed relief. It even required scores of stitches to stretch mangled tissue back over exposed bones in several places. When I came home from the hospital, I had to be wrapped up like a mummy in disposable baby diapers and white tape for a month or more, and my poor mom had to care for me in bed and change my bandages twice a day. To do this, she would have to help me get into the bathtub, which was no small task, and then completely submerge me in lukewarm water. Then, after an hour or more of soaking the bandages so they could be "peeled" off the oozing wounds, she could get me out, allow me to drip and air dry, and then slather on more antibacterial ointment and another box of Pampers and tape. This happened on the last day of high school before Summer break, and I was again riding a motorcycle to school by Labor Day. And I am still riding 46 years later. I tell you this as proof that no one is perfect, and I am also hoping it will inspire you to focus on a speedy recovery, so you can get back on your bike and hit the trail. 🙏

As someone who has had a lot of injuries, a lot of them at work (yes, I have, or had, a somewhat dangerous job, I won't get into that) My belief is that physical therapy causes more harm than good in most cases. Instead of letting things heal, physical therapy just keeps reinjuring things. I am now 65 and recently retired. I have a huge amount of soft tissue damage (muscles, tendons, ligaments, cartilage) and can barely walk. I use a cane. I have been riding motorcycles since age 8, and have ridden close to a million miles on around 40 different bikes since age 16. I've done many Iron Butt rides. I have never been injured on a motorcycle. But because of all my other injuries, I can no longer even get on a motorcycle. I can't get my leg over the seat. I had to switch to step through scooters. Not the same, but it still gets me out there on 2 wheels. It could be worse. My former boss was a Goldwing rider, and had crashed a few times in his life. But a few years ago, he went into a blind curve too fast and leaned over too far, hit a patch of gravel he couldn't see till it was too late, and low sided. He slammed into a steel guard rail and broke his back. He is now paralyzed from the waist down. Do you plan on going back to riding?
