The story is incorrect. Abhimanyu was a fiersome warrior. If you are sticking to the original story, I will share what I know you can check it out. Bheeshma structures the Chakra formation as a result it is having epitome defense. The pandavas other than Arjuna are unable to crack it through. Arjuna is kept busy at another part of the warfare. Abhimanyu says he will take upon himself. However he says that he knows how to get in however he does not know how to get out. Yudhishtra decides he can lend him hand in getting out as he is familiar with that. So they form a unit along with the other pandavas to break through the formation and then get in and out. However Abhimanyu is being trapped inside and Jayadradha is being used to hold back other pandavas. Jayadradha had the power to hold them back because of a power he was bestowed. So Abhimanyu is cut off. Normally Abhimanyu should be able to win any fight one on one with many warriors. He even holds his ground against Karna. He is a fiersome warrior having trained by Krishna and Arjuna since young age. So the Kauravas decide to do what is not ethical in battle. They decide to take him as more than one. They first kill his horses and then his charioteer. Then they break his chariot. He is forced to fight on ground. This again is against the rule as foot soldiers should face foot soldiers and chariot warriors should face chatiot warriors They break his bow surrounding him He uses mace and fights but he is overpowered. He is being cornered and then stabbed by everyone. He begs them to give a hand dagger to fight fair. They do not care. He asks Karna for water from a nearby puddle. He stabs him too. Abhimanyu dies a painful and gruesome death. That is why Arjuna takes vow that he will kill Jayadradha the next day before sundown.
