Sadly in this specific case, in the state of MT the cops while not 100% correct here had justification to escalate up to deadly force if they chose to. Do not herald this guy's behavior as the proper way to act. This guy is not a hero, he's a suicidal idiot who is lucky to be still drawing breath. No one has mentioned that the man said, in his own words, that he had discovered a decomposed body of a young woman. Yet, he glides right over this fact and gives it about one minute of his time, while the rest of it is a monotonous back-and-forth grind. The man had found a body. Think about it. Now, the police were wrong to start the conversation like that, but the cowboy here gets no accolades from me for keeping it escalated. Somehow, though, he seemed to think that finding a body is no big deal. Also, he was able to reach the conclusion that the body had been there for about twenty years, and that the woman was young, and the police had done it. The man was a whacko, in my book.
