Danielle, I have been loving your channel and learning from you about gardening for over two years now. I have never posted comments before, but I just could not resist, after hearing your story about the police being called on you. Your garden looks like a piece of heaven, and I always turn on your videos for inspiration when I get discouraged in the garden. I love the hedge and the peace it has given you and your family, but I just wanted to say that your space was gorgeous even before that. You work so hard on your space and have sprinkled beauty in every corner (that I can see in videos). Please, don't let anyone bring you down! I have only been gardening for six or seven years and it's so easy to get discouraged when things don't work out. If people can complain about your gorgeous space, then we beginners, would have no hope at all! Please, keep doing what you are doing and don't let anyone ever make you doubt that you have created anything less than perfection! I so empathize with you and having horrible neighbors has plagued us too, so we did move to 10 acres but still have neighbors 600 ft. away. Still have some lack of privacy on our 900 ft driveway with 2 properties. We love your inspiring Instant Hedge and will save for our own. So glad you shared your trials and solutions!! You and your husband did so much work to make this hedge put in place and you're right, it will change the whole usefulness and function of your outdoor space. It looks great and having privacy now is so important plus a way to keep Grace in place too! None of us need to be able to have people see into our private spaces. Your garden is absolutely beautiful and so peacefully serene. I can see the pure joy in your face, I am so happy for you. I am a first time homebuyer. When I bought my home 5 years ago I had the mindset that i would be here a couple years due to the fact that that it was not the area I really wanted to be in but what my budget allowed for. Unfortunately with high interest rates, home prices that have skyrocketed plus the lack of inventory- the market is not in my favor so I will have to wait another couple years or so. My house lacks privacy with having 2 story apartments, the apartments unsightly dumpster, their parking lot, in addition to nosy neighbors all facing my backyard yard. I dont even want to be in my back or side yard. I truly hope I can create a beautiful space like this that will make me happy and enjoy being in my space.

I am so happy for you! Feeling like you’re not being exposed to everyone every single time you walk out into your yard is so important. Our backyard was that way when we first moved into our home, and we had to install a fence right away because I couldn’t stand it. Your hedge is just gorgeous, though! I live on a corner lot as well, and deal with many of the same issues. Although we were fortunate to move in with a pre-existing privet hedge, we also know that it will not live forever and have worried about what we’re going to do when it finally dies-A wrought iron fence or similar will not cut it!! I love the work you have done to your yard and I really appreciate that you take real-world budget into consideration. It makes it feel doable and not simply aspirational and unattainable. Thank you for your knowledge and for offering something different than many gardening channels. I have taken a number of your suggestions over the years and have really elevated my garden to something that people passing by stop to photograph (which still shocks me! ) Looking forward to seeing how the hedge matures and the eventual keyhole garden project! 💚

The hedge is awesome! I also live on a corner lot and understand not only the privacy issue but the upkeep that the wind brings, dog walkers (dogs peeing plantings to death), trash escaping trucks, etc. But it also affords me a view of life. I live alone and appreciate not always feeling alone. I do like the privacy of my backyard and have created a very nice garden sanctuary. The best of both worlds.

Danielle, I'm so happy about this and I'm also now considering the insta hedge for some areas of my yard. Most of all, I'm happy that you won't move because your garden is my favorite and has inspired me since I bought my first house almost 2 years ago. My garden is so similar to yours, but yet so different at the same time It means so much to me to see your garden and develop and grow. You have been my silent online mentor and I talk about you all the time. When I speak to my friends I am always saying oh, Daniel from Northlawn said XYZ... oh I bought these lilies because of Danielle and these Gladiolas and the list goes on and on. I know the feeling of finally having privacy as well. It is a total game changer. We moved here and we put up a 6 foot cedar fence all the way around the backyard. There was nothing there previously and it was like we didn't even want to go out and have a barbecue until we got the fence up because we felt like we were in a fishbowl. Nothing against the neighbors because they are so nice, but it's just something about feeling like you're in your own space and you can just have that privacy is really priceless and life-changing so I get it 100%. I'm so happy you're staying because I need your very specific garden in my life! 😂 your cool flowers instruction has also been life-changing for me and I just really look forward to all of your videos. We lived on a corner lot about 30 years ago. The lot was large and at an entrance to our subdivision. The side yard was on the neighborhood street, not a busy street with lots of traffic. Fast forward to 2023. Our backyard is bounded by a golf course fairway with the cart path just on the other side of the property line. More people see my backyard than my front yard, which is on a quiet cul-de-sac. There are lots of property restrictions, which we knew about when we bought the house. I did not realize at the time how negatively these restrictions would impact my hopes for my yard. After tornadoes associated with a hurricane totally transformed (mangled) our backyard from a dappled shade space to a tilted soccer field, we have less privacy than we did when we purchased the house. I have great neighbors, but I would like to move, but my husband doesn't want to at this point. So I garden in the backyard, but I can't sit out there and enjoy it because it's too hot now, and golf balls come whizzing into the yard. I don't have a nightmare yard, I just don't have the peaceful space I had before the hurricane changed everything. I live on the southeastern NC coast, zone 8a.

I need this Insta Hedge in my life after my neighbor had the gaul to hire a company to cut underneath my beautiful pine tree without my knowledge. I put up an expensive privacy fence, but it could only be 4ft under the tree. I now have a tarp hanging in my tree, just so I can have privacy.
