Design isn't my strong suit.... but 55m/s seems to be quite a bit of air. Some designers I talk to look more at a 25 or 30 m/s as a maximum design criteria. Of your 2 options above I like the 2nd. If you can achieve 115db at 20hz I think you have won the game. Have you considered using passive radiators?

Always seal wood with a sealer before painting. You want the paint to stay on the surface and not soak in thus creating a paint film which uses the perfect amount of paint with minimum waste. A paint film will give you maximum finish results with minimum effort. A sealer does not need to look good either just spray or roller it on without regard for looks. Paint is always way more expensive than sealer so this can actually save you money while improving your results. Great video!.

@@JilesMcCoy Being a single 8ohm coil isn't doing you any favors, the Eminence was designed to work in pairs in a single cabinet to give amps a much easier 4ohm load to drive. The ultimax can be wired in a 4ohm load out of the box which gives it a definite advantage in selecting amps to match its power handling. There aren't many amps that can meet the Eminence's 1600W RMS rating that don't cost several times more than the cost of the sub itself! An NX6000 is probably your best bet, or a secondhand XTI6002 or QSC PLD/PL380 but those will easily set you back $1000+ even on the used market...
