This blooper from season 2 has always intrigued me. In "The Black Eye" Fred sends Lucy flowers for Ricky but mistakenly signs his own name, "Fred" (that's part of the plot). But if you notice carefully, the florist puts white gladiolas in the flower box. Later on, when Lucy opens the flowers, they miracously have turned into a bouquet of red roses! Never underestimate the power of flowers, I guess.

That is an good one, considering Fred asked the florist what they were as he was filling the box with red roses, the florist answers that they are gladiolas and Fred says they are beautiful, put some of those in there. So he does, he adds a FEW gladiolas to the box of red roses. But when Lucy opens the box there are NO white gladiolas at all, they should have been on top of the red roses. Where was the continuity adviser on this????

Another flub is in the episode where a couple of Ricky's friends from Cuba come to visit and, of course, Ricky has to translate for Lucy. Lucy asks them RATHER LOUDLY how was their trip and Ricky explains that they're not DEAF, they just don't speak the language. So Lucy asks Ricky the question and Ricky is supposed to translate it into Spanish. However, Desi flubbed his line and asked the Cuban couple the question in ENGLISH... then he looked at Lucy and said, "Oh, fine! Now you've got ME doing it!" and leaned up against the fireplace and started laughing. And then the dialogue went on as scripted.
@akrenwinkle3 жыл бұрын
That wasn't a blooper. Asking questions about the trip and translating the answers correctly would be a waste of time, not funny, and gone nowhere. The gag was that Ricky translated back and forth so many times that he got confused.

The mistake that always stood out to me is in the episode where Ricky makes Lucy stick to a schedule. When Mrs. Littlefield comes over to tell Lucy that Ricky invited them to dinner to watch Lucy "perform", she means to say that if her husband likes what he sees he's going to put her on a schedule too, but instead she says "If he sees what he likes". I always thought that was kind of a big one, but it aired as is.

Since Elizabeth Montgomery's husband Bill Asher produced many of the I Love Lucy shows, it's not a coincidence that the Ricardos (and Mertzes) eventually moved to Westport Connecticut - the town where the Stephens' lived. Theoretically Lucy and Ricky could have encountered Samantha and Darren at the grocery store. And - the scene where Lucy and Ethel are working in the chocolate factory is almost scripted the same as the episode of Bewitched where Serena and Uncle Arthur lose their powers and end up working in a factory making chocolate dipped bananas. Another non-coincidence.

Where the Stephenses lived was never mentioned-the town, that is. Their street address was metioned (Morning Glory Circle, I think it was).

Wow that makes sense, I never thought of that. Bill Asher was a genius.

@@mikeb3435 not true. I cannot remember which episode, but Samantha does mention at least once they live in Connecticut and I am pretty sure the town of Westport is mentioned in an episode.

And no doubt William Asher used his baby experiences with Lucy and Desi when Elizabeth Montgomery was pregnant with Tabitha and Adam (and indeed, she was pregnant when the pilot episode of "Bewitched" was filmed).

Rick, I saw this when it first came out, but just had to watch again. I've noticed a couple off bloopers on 'I love Lucy' so I thought I'd share them with you. Maybe you've already mentioned them. One is in the show where Fred sends Lucy some flowers pretending to be Ricky, hoping to reconcile them after a quarrel. Fred picks out some beautiful blooms, when Lucy gets the flowers, she opens them and they are a totally different bouquet. Another one was Ricky's singing 'Rock-a-by Baby' when Lucy tells him that she's expecting at the club. After realizing Lucy and he are the expecting parents, he accidentally sings: when the wind blows the cradle will fall, followed by, whe the baugh breaks the cradle will fall. Keep up the good work Rick and stay well.
