I probably wrote this already on another comment, but I only really got into Lucy last year after I started watching Mission: Impossible, and found out she green lit the project, and Star Trek, even though both shows were making a huge financial loss, she kept those going for many seasons. After finding out that she made these shows possible, I went back and watched many of her wonderful screwy B&W movies, and found so much fun in those that I kept watching them. I think I heard she was good friends with Ginger Rogers, and they were in the same acting school, and became friends. Dont know if I remember this correctly but it would account for their similar comedy timing and funny faces. I've never seen one episode of I Love Lucy, but yes she pioneered the camera and studio techniques that TV shows use to this day. What a marvelous lady! Thank you for this timely documentary and insight into the lives of all those who made this happen. It seems her impact on Television is second only to Hedy Lamarr, who invented mobile technology, GPS and WiFi.

Jerry you have a beautiful voice, but I have a question, are you going to do one on the 70's show "Good Times"? My reasoning, is because the cast of that show is very unique, in that everybody from that cast except Ester Rolle is amazingly STILL alive. No other show from that long ago can say that. From John Amos, Jimmie Walker, Janet Dubois, Janet Jackson, the janitor(I forget his real name), and even the woman that played Janet Jackson's abusive mother that daughter later in life became a famous actress herself. Seems nobody has done a story on such a unique TV show where the entire cast is still alive from so very long ago....

@makepeace2348 жыл бұрын
No, he lacks the other characteristics of Parkinson's: inability to swing arms while walking, & "pill rolling" motion of fingers, as well as uncontrolled movement of head,neck shoulders. These symptoms would be present in Parkinson's disease. He only displays hand tremors from mild DT's as he was forbidden to drink when on set. He probably had a bottle waiting for him when he got home, which would have prevented full on DT's. (as a nurse I've seen both) Tough guy, that would be hard, working with DT's, bless his heart......

He died in his arms from a heart attack

Lucille Ball tested for the part of Scalett O'Hara. She was also a registered communist. I believe it was Walter Winchell who exposed her. However, when she was called to testify, she explained that her grandfather (a communist) made her register with the party when she was 18. But that was the extent of her involvement in the party. She never attended any meetings. As part of her contract, Vivian Vance always had to be over-weight, which was insisted upon by Lucille Ball. I heard on another show (I think it was Mysteries and Scandals) that Vance thought Lucille Ball was a bitch.
@damsbaug338 жыл бұрын
+Ferdinand Celine That clause about Vivian Vance being overweight is just an urban legend. Check it out on snopes.com. Also, Vance had issues with William Frawley (Fred), but not Lucy.
@Danny-gu8rs8 жыл бұрын
+Ferdinand Celine I think it would have come more from people such as Joan Crawford (I read somewhere years ago)because Lucy didn't agree with some of her ways or ideals. That surprised me when I found Crawford had been invited to an episode of The Lucy Show.
@damsbaug338 жыл бұрын
TEDDINGTON TELEVISION No. As I said before, it was NOT in the contract that Vance stay heavier than Lucy. That is an urban legend. www.snopes.com/radiotv/tv/vance.asp
@damsbaug338 жыл бұрын
TEDDINGTON TELEVISION And if you actually watched that Dinah Shore show, you will see that they are referring to a joke contract that Lucy made up. Urban legend. Not fact. Stop saying otherwise until you have proof other than your flapping gums.
@damsbaug338 жыл бұрын
TEDDINGTON TELEVISION From IMDB: Legend has it that a clause in her television contract required her to stay 10 pounds heavier than costar/producer Lucille Ball. Actually, this contract never existed, at least not in legal, binding form. It was a mock contract given to Vance by Ball as a gag gift sparking the legend it was a real contract.
