You can't really evaluate a tweeter on it's own. You need to blend it in with the midrange as much as possible so the two are working together as a team. That's hard to do unless everything has it's own channel and you can control the crossover points, phase and level. It's definitely better to buy a mid and tweet set that is already matched with crossovers designed specificallyfor them. Some crossovers even have switches that let you reduce the tweeter level to better blend with the mid. Plus some people like a brighter sound than others. So that's a nice option.

@@TNG11AutomotiveYeah, the Walmart stores only carry coaxial speakers. Looking at Walmart online, their less expensive component sets are: $44 Power Acoustik, $50 Pyle, $65 Rockford, $38 Crunch, $120 Alpine, $83 Infinity, $40 Rockville. If you order online you might have trouble returning. I'm not sure. It would also not fit your theme of what Walmart keeps in stock. Of all those brands I'm partial to Rockford, Infinity and Alpine. Although that Pyle has a lot of good reviews. As a general rule, an amp won't make something sound better, just louder (unless it's a dsp amp). More power means higher volume. A good 50w-75w on each channel gets pretty loud. Now if you want really good sound, Kicker has a 50w x 4 amp called the Key 200.4 (previous version is 180.4). It has a dsp built in that works with an included microphone and it will automatically set time alignment and EQ your system. Its pretty amazing. So even average speakers will sound real good and get loud. It's $280 new, but you can find them under $200 on e Bay. You just have to make sure any used ones include the microphone. That's a bargain compared to building an RTA, buying an EQ, analyzing the sound and making adjustments/tuning it.

@@TNG11Automotive designing an audio setup from scratch (with no prior knowledge) is a huge rabbithole IMO. the tldr from what i understand is: 1. upgrade midrange (this will give you your best price/performance ratio since vocals and instruments are most prevalent, a typical car mid goes around 80-4000hz with no factory sub) 2. you should add a crossover as to limit the low range and not blow your tweeter (if not factory installed) "something is better than nothing" approach cause good/perfect crossover matching involves a huge amount of math and is specific to each midrange/tweeter combo (i think some online calculators exist to plug in the speaker variables and provide you with the answer but idc for sure) 3. add a sub to enhance low range 30-80(can even push it to 100+ sometimes to improve the kick of bass and reduce midrange driver wear and tear) this will greatly improve the sound depth of the system. All that is without going through the hassle of adding an amp. If you are after SPL instead of SQ in your setup i would advise to first add the crossover and then adding an amp for the extra umph (you can always limit the amp by setting the gain lower for example if your speakers are rated 50w and you have a 100w amp you can drive them by reducing its output to 50 and not blow them in the first test) while also looking for midrange upgrade to use the new available power and actualy provide the volume increase (again the midrange are most responsible for that in basic car audio setups) For SQ I would stick to the basics (at least at first) and just add a crossover at around 3khz some better midrange with a relatively good frequency response and add a sub (if there is some space available) for that low range fill and to improve the performance of the midranges by offloading the
