I like it. I arrived at the same idea when I decided to rebuild my swing a couple years ago. The thing i would add is tuning in to the feeling of club dropping briefly in transition before you turn. I think the fundemental skill in golf is timing and how to feel where the club is in space and being in sync with the inherent properties of the club
@Ericksonbellgolf Жыл бұрын
@@martynzl not sure what you're asking but timing is pretty much the same for every swing length in the sense that a shorter swing will take the same amount of total time as a longer swing
@Ericksonbellgolf Жыл бұрын
@@martynzl i just mean letting gravity start the club down. Not some kind of shallowing move.

@@martynzl pretty much the same idea. just a different focus. when you recenter you are letting the arms and club drop and then turning.

@martynzl everyone has their own challenge, I guess. Most people turn too soon, and moving lateral lets the club drop into the slot and saves the rotational move for later

Glad you are putting this out. Curious to see the video of the whole protocol! One question, with your “waist high to waist high heel to toe” swings, is it supposed to be shaft parallel to shaft parallel or left arm parallel to shaft parallel? Do you grade yourself on how well you can get the club/arms to stop at the desired height in the backswing/through swing, or is it more intent and getting them generally in the right spot?

I get the concept of half swing as a drill (square-to-square, hip-to-hip). Is the end game to have a half swing to play.....or eventually extend it to 3/4 / full swing? I tried a half swing for a while and lost too much distance.

@cbcredit Жыл бұрын
Funnel the "effective swing plane" zone even further, and you get: Just take a proper divot. If you can take a proper divot, it's almost impossible to have a bad swing. You can still slice or hook, but with a proper divot, those have now become functions of grip position. With a proper divot, a stronger grip will turn a slice into a fade. With a proper divot, a weaker grip will turn a hook into a draw. Imagine teaching golf but starting with putting and only moving farther from the hole as the student became competent with each greater distance. When going from putting to chipping, proper ball contact would be the focus. When going from chipping to pitching, proper ball contact with a slight proper divot would be the focus. When going from pitching to half-swings, proper divots would be the focus. You could literally teach a full swing by ONLY focusing on proper divots.
@Not.Satoshi Жыл бұрын
Except there is little, to no similarities of putting and pitching. And pitching is a completely different technique than a 1/2 swing or full swing.
@cbcredit Жыл бұрын
@@Not.Satoshi - That's my point, you DON'T have to teach any swing "technique", all you have to do is have the student focus on taking a proper divot, whether it's a pitch, or 1/2 swing, or full swing. If all they are taught is to take a proper divot, it's almost impossible for their technique to be poor.

I do not believe there can be a consistent FSP (functional swing plane) if you use a neutral to weak grip and retain some angle between the lead arm and club shaft into/through impact. It seems geometrically impossible for the shaft to swing within that FSP and Kevin Ryan (Ryke Effect) agrees (see below comments I exchanged with him). Basically , the lead arm will have to move inwards while the swing plane will have to get flatter. There are graphs by other researchers Coleman/Anderson who have measured the club shaft plane in the downswing for an elite golfer, and the swing plane angle gets flatter from P6-P7. My Question: Kevin - there is a lot of talk about the whole club shaft being swung on a near perfect functional swing plane from P6- P7.5 approx. Dr Kwon has mentioned this on his you-tube channel videos. But if there is an angle between the lead arm and club shaft from P6-P7 , isn't it impossible for a the whole shaft (including the hands/grip) to traverse on a single functional plane? Surely the lead hand would have to move inside as the lead forearm/arm rotates to square the clubface (while the clubface sweet spot remains on this functional plane)? Kevin Ryan reply: You are correct on multiple issues: (a) In the functional swing plane, the whole shaft (including the Hands) will traverse a plane. (b) the lead arm must move inside (and therefore off the functional swing plane) as the forearm rotates to square the clubface. To understand this take a club in your lead arm and bend down against a table top with your lead underarm on the tabletop. Do this slowly, I don't want accidents. Now try to execute a double pendulum. You can't because your lead wrist locks. You could rotate your forearm but then the clubshaft would leave the function swing plane. Now to understand the RYKE effect, as the clubshaft reaches club horizontal, lift your shoulder off the table top. Now you can rotate your forearm and the ryke angle will form and the shaft will stay on the functional swing plane. This is equivalent to moving the lead arm inside. In a full swing this inside move starts at about club vertical. Kevin Ryan

Yeah. That develops from the I tentio. Of clipping low solid shots that start right. If you yank the handle and extend the right wrist you won’t hit the intended shot. Shot u let the intention make the position, most people are trying to change the position and hopes the ball flight changes as a result. For sure m son never though about his wrist position but it is developing from consistently trying to hit certain shots with certain restraints

No I meant doing the speed protocol/ speed work during this protocol does not work. The main reason is because you are learning to drive your golf swing with a different engine during this protocol and if you do speed work at the same time you will just use what you know to use as your main engine like your wrist and arms or triceps

At 18:00, you're training yourself to not close the clubface enough... you need to torque (twist) the clubface through impact - this will help get your deserved forward-shaft-lean. Your action was too passive, almost a scoop move..

I do like this channel. But this guy has been to so many instructors that is head is full of a million swing thoughts, ideas and philosophies. That is what is holding him back. He can’t just go back to one and say “ yes.. let’s work on this for 35 days” . He has a million thoughts that change daily. He still has that rerouted steep transition that won’t let him do what he wants on full swings . His half swings are manageable. But his main issue is causing him havoc in the full swing.

You are quite correct. All these pros teach this half swing which has no relation to what actually happens in a full swing. I don't think Dr Kwon would teach this "hold off" method, he works on a free release through the ball which is what happens in a full swing. His "functional plane" is quite correct but it only works at speed and in response to a good back swing and downswing. Practicing something that never happens is a waste of time. Brendon's son would also do better if he just worked on a full, flowing swing.
