It’s always blown my mind when I see Marcus do the toe down drill. How is this not introducing a ton of face rotation into the swing ? Isn’t that opposite to what Milo and Malaska teach. I think I’m misunderstanding…

Brilliant! Came back to review this again. Marcus is the only teacher you (we) need. Real results and no technical position jargon. Unfortunately you would have to take the channel anther direction as you wouldn't need to interview any other coaches. 😁 That being said, if you had stopped at another great coach like Milo, then I would never have heard of Marcus. GRF channel has dozens of swing transformations where he adapts to give the student what they need to get the right feelings and results. Highly recommended. I would be first in line for BBG golf school with MB.

Brendan,you crack me up. The whole time Marcus is showing you these drills I can just tell you are dying to hit a ball and see if it translates in to your swing ASAP. I think the hardest thing in golf as you try and get better is giving drills time to bed in. Trying to first get really good at the drill then seeing if it changes your swing is tough. Great video guys!

I had a three hour session with Marcus in his home base (flew in from Germany) and Im really glad that your viewers are able to see his genius on your channel. Not only is he maybe the best instructor on the Internet, but as well a personality who is completely convincing. This video is an essence of his basic fundamentals, but when he teaches you in person, it gets much more individual, based on your abilities and maybe flaws. Best instruction I ever had!

Good video. I like the dynamics of using the ground explained and demonstrated. Seems like less a lag thing than a sequencing of the application of force with movement. Brings to mind the Percy Boomer line that "all of golf is opposition".

Marcus is genius at getting a golfer into athletic movements. He understands that teaching positions doesn't work. He's teaching athletic movements. Such a smarter and more effective way to teach. I just carried an 8 iron 170 yards after implementing these ideas about getting the club toe down with the drop and pop. I'm 49 years old and typically carry an 8 iron 150 yards or so. I'm getting a ball speed of 120 mph with an 8 iron and 20 degrees of launch.

Reflecting on the 'toe deep divot' concept. It seems that the idea is correct, but his application to my eye is via the hands. My belief is that the squaring of the face half way down is accomplished via supination of the left arm with the left elbow actually moving in toward the navel rather than continuing target-ward. Of course the left arm would separate after impact so there's not too much face rotation but in order to accomplish squareness without using wrists and hands to do so would mean that the left arm is the key. IMHO. See Hogan's explanation and graphic on arms and elbows.
@BEBETTERGOLF Жыл бұрын
I think you have to use the wrists. In the hack motion graphs every one is moving and using the wrists. Recently the term “squaring the face with body rotation” has become popular but even with that style of player the wrist still has to be educated to do a lot. More and faster body rotation puts an opening torque on the face that has to be over come. So even if it doesn’t move much it is stabilized and under opposing forces 1 the OPENING force from the body and 2 the CLOSING force from the wrists. You think that’s basically correct of am I missing something.
@WishonPGA Жыл бұрын
Thanks for that. I guess for the sake of brevity I over economized my thoughts. I was not meaning to say that the wrists don't or shouldn't play a role. As you know I'm an older teaching pro who perhaps is basing my observations on a game that not longer exists. That said, I've been trying to explain to myself why so many current players play with a shut clubface. A fact that annoys me greatly but the reality seems to be that with equipment, analysis, conditioning, they're able to generate a lot more speed and control with the body than in my day (where muscle work was out of the question). With that, they can set the club and not fuss with it in a way that the older crowd did with questionable equipment, etc. My observation is that with the shut clubface crowd, there is some ambiguity in what the action of the left arm should be (Jordan Speith). I first attributed (and still do to some extent) the shut faces to a mis-understanding of the proper motion of the left arm and its therefore, being 'in the way' of a free release or causing a rolling over release. Thus the need for a pre-shut face. However, it more likely is a result of all of the above-mentioned improvements. I think my bias against a shut clubface is through teaching players who have strong grips, don't practice and have little talent. This really limits their advancement and ability to accommodate different types of lies and situations. So, I guess my bias is more against a non-neutral grip than it is about a shut clubface of an elite player. I've been meaning to put these thought down on paper, independently of a comment, but I found the opportunity here to be too inviting to pass up. Cheers and thanks for your response. Regards to the crowd at 'the Park'.

Give a 5 yr old a club for the first time and have them hit a ball , Instinctively we go down after it. This proves there are so many avenues to be taught one way to get to impact with speed ,no matter what sport it is. Tennis is almost as complicated. Finding a teacher that has a method that sinks to your individuality is the hardest part. For me this would be hard to get through. Curious if anyone else feels this way.

@BEBETTERGOLF Жыл бұрын

@barrettwiley3766 Жыл бұрын
For a right handed golfer the left hip has to fully clear and the chest has to rotate through the shot to offset the closed face. Just using you hands and arms in the swing after turning the face/club will have the club super shut
@jsoward Жыл бұрын
If you're hooking/pulling it means your release is still to early. The key is the load/unload he shows with the box drill. Brendan does it beautifully a the 24:32 mark. Marcus has tons of videos on his channel. I recommend spending some time over there and watching Marcus's methods. Load/unload, low point control, etc....I'm sure Brendan and Marcus will cover these parts in future videos. Hope that helps!

You seem to take quite a big divot - me likewise. But I think the trouble is, for ages teachers has relied on a mantra: - You need to hit down on the ball! To my understanding that is not at all the case. Body angles take care if the down-vector, all you have to imagine is hitting the ball forward at the target.
@BEBETTERGOLF Жыл бұрын
Club goes down yeah but body center of mass needs to be going up thru impact. Not sure about how the imagination helps or hurts. That’s a very personal to different players
@77bovi Жыл бұрын
❤ for sure 1 of your best and that is wonderful impact. Have to ask though - turning the shaft axially to close the face, isnt that going against what many recent instructors promote - that flexion to extension release model where they then reference that David Duval video etc? What Marcus is teaching for the wrists/clubface reminds me a lot of what Mike Bender teaches to do ( Bender says it is an exaggeration drill) In your video here, looks like its L forearm wrist supination and flexion without turning the left elbow around. The image or the club shaft going up an imaginary wall that is perpendicular to the ball line about 2 feet left of the lead foot post impact and the elbow pointing down. Would this be accurate?
@BEBETTERGOLF Жыл бұрын
You can still do what Marcus says and have the Spider-Man style release (flex to extend) The drop and pop and an active body pivot is a face opener. Any real body / torso rotation is a face opener. The motorcycle wrist move Marcus is talking about is to counter act that opening pressure. Notice how Marcus does that twist into impact but then not through to the finish. Into and through impact would be “wedding ring up”. Marcus seems to twist to impact but then stop and then go vertical with the hands. That Vertical with the hands to redirect the energy and miss the box is a tough move to master but he does it well Would have to ask Marcus if I’m right. However some modern coaches are saying that you can just rotate from the top and not worry about the hands. That is a recipe for disaster I think. The hands have to do a lot in the way down.
@77bovi Жыл бұрын
@@BEBETTERGOLF nice to hear from you on this. Dont mind that I would like to understand more how the Duval type release is compatible with Marcus' especially since I agree with your 3rd paragraph on how in Marcus' release the clubhead doesnt pass the L wrist/arm and goes up with a fold at the elbow. Seeking clarity and not that I want both to work together. If they are separate releases so be it. Kinda like how scott cowx details 3 different releases with hackmotion. Great point about pivot being a face opener, I think my open Clubface is due to a spin out of legs hips shoulders. So my thought has been to quiet those instead of adding more forearm and/or wrist twist / rotation. Quietening down my trail shoulder too. The problem I have with the screwdriver release is I cant seem to control it or tune it. Strangest thing is I get both hook or a slice. Chris Como in a golf pass video and in the "how to shallow" video he just did with Grant Horvat talks about this same release of Marcus & Bender. I can hit straight, cuts and push/pull slices & hooks but really struggle to hit high draws. It's my club face but part of it also due to faulty alignment, club path & faulty perception of where I'm aimed vs where the target looks to be when I'm setup (especially for driver where there is greater distance from ball line) - which I'm slowly addressing. Could you please explore in a video how to tune this prescribed release from both angles. I.e. how to tone down it causing a hook and when it's not drawing still. Plus how it matches up (if so) with the frisbee / Duval release. Cheers!

Some similar elements to Benders instruction. They both miss one of the critical elements to pure striking, shaft plane at impact the same as at address, NOT higher. Look at Tiger and Hogan, they deliver the club perfectly on plane at impact. All the best ball strikers do. Raising the hands, and thus shaft, at impact is terrible advice in my opinion.

More external focus stuff and plagiarising of old Shawn Clement videos (wrecking ball , swinging a hammer, the up and down motion - see " CREATE SERIOUS SPEED in your GOLF SWING" created 14 years ago). His ideas about squaring the clubface using either Tyler Ferrells reverse motorcycle or Brian Manzella's twistaway moves are just old theories being rehashed. Very vague statements about how to improve compression and smash factor doesn't make any sense to me from a physics perspective.
