this is the part of depression that no one talks about, it's not all crying in your room while it rains outside, a lot of it is not having the energy to shower, brush their teeth, brush their hair, not being able to ear, not taking care of yourself, that's the part we need to talk about more and normalise helping people who are going through things like this. her hair is wonderful and i'm so happy for her that she decided to get help and i hope she's doing better now, and i hope she knows she's wonderful

I never even realized I was going through depression until I talked to my friends and explained I hadn’t combed my hair from July 2020 until December 2020. It was so embarrassing that not only had I let my hair get that way but also everything else in my life. One day I just woke up and cleaned my apartment top to bottom and just combed my hair out. It was tough, I was no where near this gentle but after hours and hours I finally got it done. Just made me realize that I have to take time for myself.

Depression is a dangerous thing. It's just sneaks up on you without you knowing what's going on. Speaking about what you're going through is such a prime example of why it's so important not to cut yourself off from the outside world if you're able. Words are such a powerful tool.

Depression causes us to not have the desire to take care of ourselves. It happens to many, many people. It took courage for that woman to walk in to the salon and get her hair addressed.

I sincerely hope that you see this. I had to come back to this video and tell you how much of a blessing you are. My 17 year old daughter’s hair was matted. We experienced a death of a closed love one and she watched her pass. So her and I both fell into a deep depression. Then covid hit. So her hair and mine were both matted for a year. I cut mine, but did not want her to lose her hair. I started watching your videos and used ur method. With God, and your guidance in your videos I was able to detangle and keep her length! It took me two days and her hair is down to her butt. I wanted to thank you so much for your videos. I wouldn’t have known how to start or that it was even possible without this video. I also wanted to add that I took her to a stylist that she’s been too a few times, and she was so judgemental that I decided to do it myself.

@@sexicoco86 yes! I filled my sink up with apple cider vinegar and warm water. I submerged her hair in it, and just kept massaging it in and trying to rinse out any built up product. I remember not long after I had my son, my husband got in the shower with me and washed my hair. I burst out in tears and wept. He kept asking me why I was thanking him for washing my hair. But I told him I think I was experiencing postpartum (didn't have it with my first child) and after he washed my hair he set me an appointment to make sure I was ok. It was just a moment of our marriage that made me love him so much more. People go through so much and life keeps going. Thank you for being so kind. Howwwww do you do this??! My hair gets so matted even after one day, I can only bare to comb it when full of conditioner in the shower and it brings me to tears with the pain and still has knots in it... this is incredible

I cried watching your videos. I suffered from matting years ago. Nowhere near as bad as your clients and I was able to fix it, but your kindness and acceptance is so wonderful to see. The world needs more people like you.

I to am a huge empath. That being said I used to wonder, not judge, I didn't understand how people can be depressed. Since then I've been through my own struggles and I no longer wonder. God bless her. I hope she is on the road to recovery in all ways.

Sometimes life hits you and rolls you under and all you can manage to do is keep breathing - that’s it. What you are doing isn’t just dematting hair; you are helping these people find their way back to the surface again. That is a GIFT.

When this happened to me I spent way too many days on it. I just couldn't continue and after several tears I just put the brush down and continued on with life. It took forever, but I eventually untangled my hair fully, and now it's doing better. Oh yeah, so am I!

I have watched a couple of your videos. As a person who will never have this problem(straight straight non curl/kink hair) I found what you do absolutely amazing! Your clients must leave with their confidence and self worth sky high! I never imagined just what it takes to keep black folks hair (sorry that is very clumsy) up, it is such a process and I now have a greater appreciation when I see amazing hairdos. Thank you for your work and for sharing your gift.

I cut all my hair off after years of depression and eating disorder, it was kind of therapeutic to make a clean cut so to say and helped me really feel like I was making a fresh start and it was healing from now on (even tho of course it wasn't as linear as it sounds but still). I was grateful in the end but I definitely cried buckets and felt like a huge failure for having sacrificed my hair to mental illness. Maybe that's why it really makes me so happy when I see how you manage to save these clients beautiful hair, even tho I don't regret cutting it off and making a fresh start as I said. I 100% understand being afraid of getting help, as I said, been there, done that, but most of the time professionals won't judge you. Not just hair, but also dentists. Taking care of personal hygiene is so difficult sometimes, but it's never too late to get help once you are in a place again where you're able to. And videos like this show that so beautifully, so really, thank you for not only doing what you do but also sharing it ❤️ you're really making a difference for people not only the people who come to your salon but also who watch your videos

This is a big inspiration.. my daughter is 12 and has beautiful natural hair, very similar to the girl in the video.. she hasn’t combed her hair since last August and its deeply matted where I’m almost convinced it needs to be all cut off. The Remote learning, not going out and not seeing friends.. The lack of self care, laying in bed all day and not keeping up with school work screams depression. Thing are getting better through therapy and lifted restrictions but It’s still one thing at time. I got her to open up and We’re watching this together. It’s a big help for us both.. thank you!

I have generally straight hair and after being sick in bed for a week my hair became matted. Took me a while throughout a day to detangle it.

I have wavy hair, bottom half shaved so I can keep length without migraines happening from weight. I can’t go a day without detangling before it mats. Days where I throw it up in a bun to just get it over with due to migraines or fibromyalgia flare up and I pay for it dearly.
