I'm 44 ... never done electrical in my life. Gave up my licence in 2011, as I live in Toronto which despite TTC's faults, has good 24/7 transit. However, I spent 45 minutes _willingly_ watching this. BUT my cats were also enjoying it. Lt. Nog was sleeping on my left arm, while Jake was actually paying attention to the video, listening to Stephen's drawl.

Just stumbled on this as it appeared - greetings from the U.K. too. Great to watch your videos, scary to think that to do almost everything you do in the highway over here would need a mile of traffic management and numerous traffic diversions and chaos. You guys have it just right…

Amazing how much of the world is held together with friction.
@kjoatmon2 күн бұрын
5 wraps of "mooth" chain around a "smooth" pipe will hold. With the rough surface of the wire, this is a load of friction. Look into how a capstan winch works to see more applications of loop friction.

For your ss fasteners, you do have some options to aid in removal and reuse. Dry film lubricants: Molybdenum Disulfide, Graphite, Miica, Talc, Extreme Pressure Waxes. Fluoropolymer coatings: PTFE (Teflon), PVDF, PFA, FEP. Anti-seize compounds: Permasilk Rac, Xylan, Delta Seal, loctite, Aero-Chem lines prevent galling by firming a barrier between metal surfaces. Hopefully, that will help you for future ss troubles.

If there is galvanized, stainless should never be used. The galvanic raction defeats the purpose. Stainless is also better with navel brass or aluminum bronze as you can work with the harness differences properly. Stainles to stainless can basically pressure weld over time just from the vibaration. Honestly, when the locations are hot dipped galvanized, that is all that should be used. That is why staunless is actually a bad choice for radio towers, light poles, etc. Zink electroplated is also not good.Hot dipped is the best choice.

what ever happened to the 4 way lights? I noticed even in my small town the state has been slowly moving to each lane having their own light. Just like this intersection in the video.
@trafficsig201221 сағат бұрын
A lot of towns/cities still have them but for safer driving the MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices) is phasing them out by requiring where the signal should be located over the roadway and how many displays per direction.

Why do you have both left turns green while the straight is also green?
@trafficsig201221 сағат бұрын
There are no Left Turn arrow displays in these signal heads at this intersection. The signal head that is in line with the left turn lane is for through traffic and vehicles turning left must yield to oncoming traffic.

Ought to have a switch on that door panel to cycle the whole intersection into solid red for when you're running cables
@trafficsig201222 сағат бұрын
Most new style traffic cabinets have a manual/auto switch & hand push button controller in the outside panel(see one of his previous videos on that panel - AKA as a police panel) that gives you the ability to cycle the red/yellow/green lights by using the button and stop it in either the Red & Green or a particular phase but not in the Yellow display. As he shows you in the video, that inside the traffic cabinet there is that Stop Time switch that allows you to stop the timing of the traffic controller in what ever (phase) color that you want so you can stop it in red in all direction.
