Teach your children kindness, compassion, communication and empathy for others. Bullies have bully parents. Abused kids always end up as bullies or being bullied. The thing is that bullies always find one or two of the same kind (there's often an alpha bully) and they isolate one victim and target him/her. All the others stand by the bullies or don't get involved because they don't want to be the next target. I've been bullied in middle school and the 3 main mean girls were the instigators then all the kids follow. This guy should have gone after his bullies and not some random kids, he basically projected his hate onto someone else.

This is why I was friends with all the loners back when I was in High School. I was actually one of the popular kids and the other popular kids were confused as to why I wouldn't hang out with them, but chose to hang out with the ones that were loners. Well, I knew why. Because I knew, that no one wants to be an outcast. Everyone needs a friend. When someone is shunned, ignored, and bullied, they feel only regret. These people, lose all hope in living, and then, just want everyone to suffer like they do, and then this happens. I was friends with all the loners, and school was mostly peaceful. Sure there were at times fights between two people, but that was the maximum. Everyone needs a friend, and teachers should start doing their jobs better, and start giving out harsher punishments to those that bully others, instead of just sending them to the office with a letter...

Video games didn’t do this. A very sick little boy did this. My heart hurts for every family involved including the shooters own. As a parent-my son is in therapy weekly just to have someone else to talk to in case he doesn’t feel comfortable talking to me or his mother about his issues. Pay attention to your kids. Make sure you catch any and all warning signs before things like this happen.. I’m grateful to be in such a small southern town crammed full of hillbillies with guns. Was sexually and mentally abused for years and years, was bullied relentlessly basically from k-12, and I have trauma and mental illness because of it all. And I play fps’s and other violent video games. I will never excuse slaughtering innocent lives just because your own life was messed up. Self harm is more understandable and I feel compassion for those that do it. They’ve internalized the abuse they received. But wanting to hurt others that have nothing to do with you, I think is beyond help. Part of me agrees with the sentiment that this could have been preventable. We need to look at the way we raise our kids, and how we address mental issues and bullying and abuse victims. We can’t continue to throw up our hands and not rectify the deep hidden issues in our country. But at the same time, there’s also self accountability. Self reflection, seeking help and therapy. And the fact that, I just think there comes a point when a person is just evil and beyond help. Wanting to kill innocent people is the kind of sickness that I don’t think we can excuse and humanize.

@@jonmolina948 Having no purpose is mostly a personal issue. Sure, anything can foster a lack of drive if it becomes addictive and you don’t know how to indulge responsibly. Now I do think some social media and video games seem to promote a harmful mindset. But that’s any media. It takes what society already gives it, exaggerates it, then regurgitates it back to us thus positively reinforcing what we already think or feel. In that way, it can be dangerous. But again, a person with a strong foundation won’t be so negatively impacted by those messages. If you don’t already have a certain mindset, there’s nothing for media to reinforce. Plus, plenty of hardworking successful people indulge in social media, video games, and other entertainment. It’s about control and moderation.

To this day, I still battle generalized anxiety and bipolar disorder, but I could never imagine bringing pain to another innocent person.
