18-year-old wins $48 million Canadian dollars after buying 1st lottery ticket

Juliette Lamour was encouraged by her grandfather to buy her first lottery ticket and ended up winning $48 million, making her the youngest person in Canadian lottery history to win the jackpot.

To all Americans seeing this know that she doesn't have to pay taxes on that as a lottery win is not considered an income in Canada. Keep in mind our lottery wins can only go up to a max of 70 million. Nowhere near the billion lottery win in USA.

In Canada to collect any lotto money, you have to take a picture, then they post it on their lotto app. People have gone to court to try and stay anonymous, but lost. It's part of playing in lotteries in Canada.

It would be ill advised to just earn about $1 mil per year after tax, at current current GIC rates of about 5% on a 1-year term. She has much more upside investment return wise with other types of investments, just as safe as GIC's. As well, she would be protecting herself from any potential liability, by putting the money into a private holding company. She has her whole life ahead of her at only 18 obviously. All wealthy families use private incorporated holding companies for the purposes of paying less tax legally and protection from any potential liability. Not to mention trusts for investment disbursements to family members and charities.

You could be 50 years old and have been playing the lottery for 20 years whilst earning a low wage but yet you've never won whereas you could be a kid like this, 18, probably lived a comfortable life, never thought of playing the lottery before until she decided to give it a try for fun and then ended up winning.
