Police in America are honestly not that bad. Europeans seem to actually trust American media outlets over DW or BBC funny enough. The BLM riots were mostly peacefull, but you would be delusional in thinking a large majority werent just spoiled white women burning down random peoples livelyhoods, for litterally no reason other than being bored during the pandemic. Police Brutality is a real issue in America, and both sides wanted to double down and fix the issue. But it seemed like a vast majority of spoiled white people sensationlized it as some "revolution" and began acting like clowns, and destroyed any unity between any political side into resolving the issue. George Floyd was a junkie, but he didnt deserve to have his neck caved in by some paid murderer. Imagine if the French stopped burning down government owned property, and began burning down apartments and their own people. Pretty sure the French police would actually get involved in that case.

@Ranid most of the European countries have militaries the only one that really doesn’t is Britain who technically have a military but really just rely on the other members of NATO. Elisa Pajer You have the right to have kids, but that doesn’t mean you should. It’s not just America, lots of countries keep overpopulating. If we focus less on having kids and more on improving the world we wouldn’t need so many people in the first place. “It’s unfair,” tell that to the thousands of kids abused and killed every year by the parents that want kids they don’t need. Or what about people who have kids they can’t afford, ruining the child’s quality of life. Yeah, no, having kids is a privilege, not a entitlement, but as long as people don’t recognize that the world will continue to suffer overpopulation and lack of resources. Also land of freedom my left asscheek, the concept of America’s freedoms is only a dream that too many don’t want to wake of from. It’s only free when you get to make it that way.

This video is a full on propaganda exaggeration. The US changed a lot in recent years and the government plays a much bigger role. Is it the the EU? Absolutely not but the US demands personal responsibility and was founded on that ground. We Europeans love getting stuff getting handed to us by daddy government but the average American does not care. Americans don’t love to pay taxes, hence why services normal in Europe are not possible in the US. Also comparing the US to the EU is plain stupid. A single country with 330 Million citizens and thousands of cultures and opinions is nowhere near as easy to manage as a single Europe with a lot of countries.
@amdusa772 жыл бұрын
Also the US is a huge country. Does the US need some changes? Absolutely! But the way this video portrays the US is simply just wrong and propaganda. Even I as an European see that and let’s be honest, Europe is nowhere near to perfect.

As an American responding to how there aren’t riots in the streets: Speaking for my part, I didn’t realize until I travelled to Spain that other countries have it better in some ways. When my host mom complained about not having enough vacation (when they have, I believe, two weeks off for Christmas, one for Easter, and 3-4 weeks off in August). My whole reality up until then (again, as far as I know, having never personally having had a full-time job that pays on salary) was 1 week vacation, 1 week sick leave, but try not to take all your days off if you can manage to. I never thought about how it should or could be different, that’s just how life was. I think that’s often the case in life, is that we simply don’t know our “rights” or recognize that things could be better. I think it’s so important to travel, to be exposed to other cultures and mentalities, and with an open mind. It makes us aware that there are other realities, which can make us appreciate what we do have, and also become aware when our situation isn’t how it should be, or could be better.

We had American friends over visiting us in Barcelona. They couldn't believe that a package of insulin (she is diabetic) was under ten euros vs 300 dollars in the US, retail price. I am Hungarian and worked twice in the US in a summer camp for kids. I was really shocked when I found out that paid leave is indeed "discouraged" over there and the healthcare system is confusing and bloody expensive. I had read about it but did not want to believe it lol. It still is strange to me that "choice" comes first (you can choose your own healthcare provider) which in reality means that some CEOs get rich on your health and you can get your benefits denied if their annual profit margin is not looking good which ought to be illegal to be honest. Could never happen over here. The problem is with the US educational system I believe. A lot of people know next to nothing about other countries, only one thing matters: the US, the greatest country on the globe (it is not it though). We have a progressive paid leave system over here - the older you get, the more days you have (I'm only 31 but I think I have 20-22 days a year - which will go up later on). If this would change, say, we get 1 week vacation and 1 week of sick leave as you do, the streets would fill up with people in a blink lol.

Supermarkets are at every corner, quite cheap and filled with healthy food. I feel like living in the center of the world. I FEEL PRIVILEGED. Thanks for reminding me how lucky I am to be Italian and proudly European! PS: for all the american complaining about our taxation I say: first you have taxes too, and for getting what? Second, that I'm very happy to pay taxes and have all this services in return. Peace

Vince Brown Tbh Massachusetts is an anomaly by American standards. I’m from the GBA (greater Boston area), so I know. Our compulsory education is ranked third in the whole world. By state law high school teachers need a masters to continue teaching after a small window of time of getting their first teaching job. Our healthcare system is comparable to EU countries, I never had to pay a single cent for anything health related my entire life because of MassHealth. I got braces for free, all of my medication is free (a part from a special prescription sensitivity toothpaste I had to buy for $10 once), my physical therapy was free, I go to the doctors whenever and it’s always free, quick, and efficient. I literally book appointments to get documents signed because I don’t want to wait a week to get things done through the receptionists. As a high school student I got my MBTA monthly passes for $25, but now I don’t really use public transport. Our taxes aren’t ludicrous, I mean, they exist, but they are terrible. I go to university for free, and usually get a refund check for about $2000 every semester. So I’m basically getting paid to go to school. My siblings have a little debt (about $15k), so its manageable since they are working. I go to a top school in the Boston area, and got a full scholarship to go, so I don’t have any loans or debt to worry about. Theres a huge farmers market nearby (its p famous) with a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables that are ridiculously cheap since they are set to go bad in a relatively short time and farms want to get rid of them, and since I live in a big family, it’s perfect for us. We get huge pints of blue berries and freeze them, each pint being $.90. Going to Costco helps save money too. Our rent for a two story home with four rooms is $1.7k a month, which is crazily low for the area we live in (Boston and it’s suburbs are known for high rent). I have a lot of money in my savings account because I never spend on anything and work during the summer in internships, and also have a bunch from school refund checks. I’m super privileged although we are technically below the poverty line and can’t afford super fancy things since were in a state that supports poor people really well.

I prefer the winter and the dark over summer because I don't like being hot and bright sunlight is a pain for us very fair skinned and eyed. However, I live under the polar circle so we don't get total polar night here. Our shortest day is 5 hours of light.

Living in Canada and being bombarded by American media and social media, it is like living next to a bizarre circus. Despite all their glaring problems, the social inequality, the declining life expectancy, the frightening economic imbalance.... Americans appear to be supremely proud of their society and are convinced that the entire world envies them. They appear to have honestly no understanding at all of the quality of life available to people in other countries.

"In Germany we dont wave flags" - honestly patriotism wouldve been an interesting topic to talk about in this video as well. As a fellow German the idea of patriotism and nationalism is pretty much disregarded and even often disapproved of here (for obvious reasons) so the USA have always seemed very bizarre to me on that aspect.

Something I noticed in France too (I am Korean-French). I think it’s because patriotism is used in politics? I mean, I know France did a lot of horrible things and I disagree with the government in some points but I am still proud of being French (like the arts, the culture, the language, the long history...). For me, patriotism is liking your country, acknowledging its bad points but being proud of the good ones. I see it as being part of something bigger than yourself, like a sens if belonging. But a lot of people associate patriotism with politics and government. Like obviously it’s bad but hey, we have excellent wines and beautiful castles...? 😂

Yeah it would be very interesting indeed. In Slovakia, patriotism is somehow connected to the far right parties and populists. It's honestly a bit sad. Of course it's good to be critical of your country sometimes, we realise there are many things to improve, but if you had a Slovak flag hanging from your window, a lot of people would consider you a voter of the extremists

@@jasminpustaiova9304 Over here the part with flags is also very true. As a second gen immigrant, with a lot of friends who are too, I often feel quite uncomfortable in places where I can see German flags, as I assume that that neighbourhood is more politically right winged.

ghost lobster disregarding the negative light America is shown in on this video, we have a lot to be proud of as a nation. I guess germany just doesn’t and we can blame that on a couple events in the past century.

Sam-Annoyed • 78 years ago there is actually a lot to be grateful about in my country. wouldn‘t want to swap places with a us american state to be honest... also, patriotism usually produces exclusion on everyone that is not part of the country, it‘s important to keep that in mind when shouting out how much you love your country. in the end it was pure hazard that you ended up where you are right now ;-) that is what i am grateful for. i like living here. but i don’t exactly feel proud for something i didn’t accomplish....

As an American, these videos can be awfully frustrating. While Europe has good things and America has bad, it’s not as simple as Europe good America bad. It’s upsetting to see media on both sides disparaging the United States and trying to eliminate one’s sense of happiness or pride. There are great things about America and awful things about Europe, how about we get that sequel?

@Morphing Jar Actually, it demands a certain amount of credits to be completed every year. If one fails to do so without a good explanation (e.g. long stay in hospital or something) they have to pay some of the money back to the state.

Studying materials such as books in libary are free for all university students. I would say the state is financially aiding your studies rather than pay.
